Constellation, Episode 70 | The Star Wars Episode
🕑 Added 2024-05-06 16:00:22 +0000 UTCThis week's Constellation whisks us to a galaxy far, far away to talk about all things Star Wars.
Once all wings report in, Commander Gene leads the squadron in a discussion about Star Wars video games, from the earliest titles to the most recent entries. With countless games released over the course of five decades, which Star Wars titles are the most fun, the most difficult and the most forgettable. Vice-Admiral Brad wants to get a few things off his chest concerning the Star Wars 'Special Edition' films. The 1997 rereleases of the original three Star Wars movies is a divisive topic, and Brad and company shoot first with some real talk about messing with perfection. Grand Moff Colin picks our brains about the man who started it all, George Lucas. Is the inventor of Star Wars a wizard or just a crazy old man? Finally, Darth Dagster shares his plan for how the Star Wars films should have gone after 1983's Return of the Jedi. He may finally get the chance to run the show over at Lucasfilm after this one.

The problem with Kathleen Kennedy is she isn't a creative person, but a money person. Kathleen has a long, successful history in Hollywood, but mostly in an executive producer or similar role. That role deals with financing and managing the finances of a film production. And she was very good at that. However she was placed in the head creative position at Lucas, which was a terrible decision. She is smart, but isn't a creative or story teller. Putting her in charge of the story direction of Star Wars was like putting a Bob Iger or Chepek in charge.

The continuous trash talk of episode 8 when it’s the only movie to understand Star Wars since Empire is ridiculous. Worse than all the prequels, Colin? Really? I’ve never heard a more certifiably insane thing come from Colin’s mouth. Watch episode 8 and 2 back to back and try to say that’s true, it’s impossible.
Bryan Creagh
I have been listening for years and this is one of my top 5 episodes of all time across all LSM.
Jeece
Great ep but the cross talk is egregious *cough* GENE *cough*
Steve Bitto
Still can’t get over how well Brad fits in with LSM.
Cyberslut69
Big Correction guys, You said the actor that played boba/Jango Fett was an Australian Aboriginal, if you had ever seen one you would know he is clearly not, the actor is a New Zealand Māori. Please look at some Australian Aboriginals, they are very distinct looking, you won’t get them confused with any other race. Very concerning all 4 of you believed this. Sorry to say, this really just enforces the stereotype that Americans know nothing about other cultures or countries.
Owen
I probably would have listened if Colin and Dagan weren’t on it. Spent enough time listening to them complain about Star Wars that it’s soured me on it as an LSM topic.
Stefan S
I've seen all three Nerdonymous videos. They are probably the most accurate assessment of the Star Wars franchise, and the most informed on the making of the Star Wars films, both the Lucas and Disney productions.
Matthew Hopkins
Jedi survivor was also the moment when I realized I can’t take in any more Star Wars content.

I’m conservative and I fucking *hate* Solo. I hate the choice of actors across the board, and I hate their individual performances. I hate the visual aesthetic, and I hate the story decisions. The fact that you say you “loved Solo” gives legitimacy to what is uncontestedly the MOST FUCKING RETARDED moment in Star Wars history: How Han Solo got his name. Here’s a little jog for your cortical creases: Guard: Name? Han: Han Guard: Last name? Han: It’s just Han. Guard: Oooookkkkk… So… Han……… Solooo…. You CANNOT FORGIVE THAT. I will not allow you to. Here’s where you pull back, and go “Woah” and act like what I’ve said is unthinkable and ridiculous, and I say, as long as you propagate this RIDICULOUS positive assessment of Solo, you will find me your ardent contender. And with that, I issue you a Union-backed, fully stock options vested, Stand Down®️, Colin.
Brandon Inscho
If you wanna see an interesting video about Marsha Lucas and how she actually didn’t save Star Wars through the edit I would check out by Nerdonymous. He also has a second video explaining how involved Lucas was with episode seven for about one year before he was pushed out by executives.
PorkPoncho
I don't know if Colin will read this, and I know he hates people giving him suggestions. But my god with the way you talk about Rogue One....please please watch Andor. I hold almost identical opinions to you on how Star Wars has been butchered by Disney for the most part, but Andor really is special!

Gross. Solo sucks

No, there's nothing remotely Star Trek like in the prequels Dagster. Not even a molecule. Also, JJ directing that Star Trek reboot in 09 wasn't some gift to classic Trek fans, it was just a Star Wars action heavy reskin for the masses.
Jason
I'm conservative and Solo fucking sucks. I can't believe how easy on Star Wars you all are being here... it SUCKS.
Philip Dunphy
I’ve never wanted a seat around the table so bad as this episode
Anthony Palerino
As a kid born in 1999, I love the prequels because of the world building. The Republic was so cool to me and imaging a time before that where there were dozen, even hundreds, of Sith out there is so cool. I also completely understand the hate for it, and the quaint galaxy of the OGs is nice.
NeO JD
These guys would kill me over my SW takes. 😅
Vanzant
Finishing this episode now. It’s tough listening to these guys. I’m with them on their opinions of all the films but there are serious blind spots in their film history in regards to Lucas and the development of the series under Disney.
Colin Moriarty
I am requesting the Constellation “unhinged” episode with Colin, Chris, Jaffe, and Gene. Bonus points if you do the first five-person episode by adding Micah as well.
Cormac
Personally thought #### appearing at the end of Mando S2 made perfect sense…
Carlos
The best piece of Star Wars fiction ever written is KOTOR II. Never before or since have I experienced a Star Wars story that deep and intriguing
Cormac
Yes lol, have issues with a lot of the new stuff but overall still find a lot of enjoyment in most of it!
Marcus Brown
Anyone else fans of most of what Star Wars has to offer yet weirdly here to listen to them being taken apart? Lol
Zachary
It really hurts having Dagan compare Star Trek to the prequels lol couldn’t be farther off base and know one on this cast has any insight on that particular franchise.
Simon Freeman
Republic commandos

This was a much more interesting Constellation for me because of the back-and-forth. Some episodes get a bit bogged down in monologues imo but this was really easy listening.
Vanzant
Dam Dagan, you disappoint me. George Lucas wasn’t cut out for Sci-Fi? You have never seen THX 1138? - Also so much love for Rogue One and no one talked about Andor. That’s easily the best SW since Rogue One and the originals.
Otacon_Ocelot
I Love Solo and I am conservative lol
Jared R
Lando’s droid wasn’t a radical feminist as Brad said, but supported droid liberation. Droid autonomy/intelligence and the implications are actually some of the most interesting things Star Wars could explore, but it’s always way too scared to do so meaningfully.
Aaron Cheater
I was just about to say the same thing. And he’s from New Zealand, not Australia!
Aaron
Since Colin likes Rogue One so much should check out Halo:Reach good stuff 👍
Yiorgos
Gene with the Transformer Beast Wars mention!!! I loved Beast Wars.
Chris’s fat hog is all urethra
Here to represent the liberals who liked solo
Quinnton from Spokane
He's not Australian, either. 😂
Jared R
I enjoy the prequels a lot. The only one I’d really say is anywhere near good is 3. The prequels were really boosted by nostalgia for me, and are also propped up by the great EU works around them.
Jared R
I think war comes only before monster movie on that list as far as genre representation in the OT
Felipe
I’m conservative, and I like “Solo”
George
I think the prequels are more beloved than the LSM hosts give them credit for. Particularly with those of us under 30 who were young kids when the prequels released. I recognize this could be nostalgia blindness but there's a lot about those movies that is genuinely great. The visual/audio design, the music, the lightsaber duels, many beautifully directed sequences. I was too young to notice the flaws in the dialogue and Anakin's acting or to take issue with story elements like midichlorians or Boba's origin. ROTS in the theater as a kid was probably the best moviegoing experience of my life. What's ironic is that I HATE the sequels passionately. TFA is my all-time most hated movie. For starters I hate the prospect of there being any great conflict after ROTJ because that ruins the happily ever after ending of originals. Then for them to kill Han on top of that was just salt in the wound. They basically undid all the arcs the returning characters go through in the original trilogy. I will also die on the hill that the overacting in TFA is more intolerable than Anakin's acting in the prequels. There has been a decent amount of good Star Wars stuff in the Disney era, though. I liked Rogue One, I love the Jedi games and Andor was fantastic. While I agree with Colin that it's all far too much, I just ignore most of it. Even though all the shows take place in the same universe and largely the same time (between ROTS and ANH), I don't think they really interlink much. Watching Andor I didn't feel like there was anything I was missing by not having seen any of the other shows.
Joe Palmer
Sorry, I couldn't let this one go. The Actor for Jango Fett is Maori, not Mexican or aboriginal Australian. 🤣
Gene Park
Not my proudest moment lmaoooo
Samurai Costanza
Thank you for the catharsis in commiserating on a former passionate love many of us had
Tanner Denso
I’m conservative and I liked Solo. Hahah!
NecrumOddBoy
God, we don’t deserve this community. LSM it’s just too good I swear.
Taylor Laduron
Oh my god, when Gene called Temura Morrison Mexican I fucking died laughing. I was like “he’s not Mexican!!” I’m in tears.
Kevin White
What a fucking cathartic experience that was. Thank you!!!
The Central Long Islander
I hate it. Please don’t become the norm. Zero interest in Star Wars this episode ain’t for you. Zero interest in Ramon and Colin’s style of music, episode ain’t for you. Hope this is a once in a while “one topic” Stelly.
Quinnton from Spokane
I don't really agree with Colin's take that SW is mostly war. I think that SW is a blend of war, samurai, western, space opera, monster movies, and eastern philosophy. All these elements are essential to a SW story, in my view.
Justspartan
It’s here. It’s finally here!!
Quinnton from Spokane
I actually don't think TROS is that bad. Does it have shoddy storytelling? Sure but the visuals, music, and fight scenes are great, much like TPM. I don't mind Solo but I don't love it. Rebels, The Bad Batch, Andor, the first 2 seasons of The Mandalorian, and Rogue One are the best of the Disney era. The Clone Wars is awesome!
Noah Trujillo
If Disney makes something good, with a creative team that takes it seriously and understands the OG Trilogy, I’ll watch. Until then I’m out. It doesn’t seem like I missed anything worthwhile after stopping when I saw TROS.
Jay Bayles
I love the idea of one big topic for Stelly. Keep these kinds of episodes coming!!
Cormac
I’m probably one of the few who still find enjoyment in anything Star Wars related… so I don’t know if I want to listen to this🤣
Brandon Soto
Glad I never truly got into this franchise. Worst fanbase of all time.
PluuusRyan
The general take on Lucas feels about right to me. Pretty cringe in dialogue, but great at world building, broad story strokes, overarching themes that carry through the OG and even Prequel trilogy. The Sequel trilogy could have been so great, I was so enthusiastic about the casting and director, but Disney not having an overarching roadmap for how the narrative of the trilogy should go is baffling and inexcusable. I'm not even someone who thinks that Last Jedi is a horrible film, or even a horrible STAR WARS film. There were a lot of interesting and new concepts and generally I think it was okay to have some expectation subversion. But as the middle act of a film trilogy, again with NO THIRD FILM STRUCTURE FINALIZED, it was pretty egregious. What else could Disney do but bring Palpatine back? Rise of Skywalker had so many production issues as well, that it should have just been delayed at least a year to sort everything else.
DIS-Bee
Prequals are epic
Justin
I'm a conservative. Liked Solo.😆
Jared R
Oh man. Star Wars is to me what maybe Castlevania or Mega Man are to Colin. Let’s see if I can make it through this 😂
Whiskeywhiskey
Dude the whole time gene is calling jango fett a Mexican guy in my head I’m screaming while laughing saying “he’s Australian!” And then when Dagan corrects him I started crying laughing.
Brandon Tyler
“De-aged hitler” -Gene lmao

I am the 9th person according to PSN Profiles to have earned the platinum trophy for Star Wars Episode 1 Racer for PS4 haha
