Constellation, Episode 83 | Game Informer's Closure, Favorite Brand Mascots, Space Travel, Road Trips
🕑 Added 2024-08-05 16:00:13 +0000 UTCWelcome -- one and all! -- to another episode of Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. This week, Colin is joined by Punching Up's Micah Moriarty, Defining Duke's MrMattyPlays, and Summon Sign's Brad Ellis. Matty kicks things off with a soliloquy for Game Informer, the popular gaming publication founded in the early-'90s, and inexplicably shuttered right before we began recording. How do we feel about its closure, and its impact on the industry? Next up is Micah, who inquires as to our favorite brand mascots over the years. Where do the Geico Gecko, Mr. Clean, and the Trix Rabbit stack-up? Then, Brad brings us on a journey, recounting our favorite roadtrip memories from our past. Did we find ourselves on long roadbound adventures with friends and family? Finally, Colin wraps things up by inquiring about space travel. How does everyone feel about the idea of exploring the seemingly unexplorable?

You reversed the order of civilization types Colin And we aren't even a level 1, lol

Right? Part of it is because of people being religious but to not look up at the stars and understanding the small grasp of space we do have to not be infinitely curious truly is an ignorance is bliss mentality.

Had to go searching through every shop in the tiny town up in the hills where we vacationed to find clothes, mostly underwear and socks and only t-shirts were the touristy ones for the region we visited

I lost my shit when Micah mentioned her Mum leaving the suitcase at home with their clothes for a holiday when I just did that for our first family holiday with our baby girl, left the suitcase with mine and my wife's clothes inside our front door but had everything imaginable for our baby girl 🤦😂

What do you do in the space industry?

Just listened to this ep and resubbed. I’ve been off and on this patreon, but this ep brought me back! I work in the space industry and super love Colin’s perspective. Preach! Love it. (In addition to the fact that I love video games of course.)

I agree.

I’d bet you a nickle he already has enough money to retire lol. He’s probably not worried about that.

The new South Park episode about Ozempic, Cereal Mascots plot to take down big Pharma. It’s hilarious 😆 Shout out to the cereal mascots.

Dagan is not dead. Just busy.

I’m just shocked nobody said Michael Jordan just since she said you can use real people. The dude was everywhere and had great commercials in the 90’s

I remember getting Pocket Bike Racer at Burger King after ordering some food. That game was truly great lol.

The Jersey turnpike is efficient, so I understand why Micah likes it given she said efficiency is king for her on trips. But damn, I hate that road. It’s expensive to drive on, for one. But it’s also mundane and boring, no sites to be seen, etc. I do like the service plaza stops and that they warn you when it’s gonna be awhile though.

Micah been on mad constellations

Micah- They used to have 3 bakers for Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Bob, and Quello were killed off in 1991. https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/comments/lc6btr/bob_quello_and_wendell_were_the_best_cinnamon/

I too share the same love for space and the final frontier Colin. And also I do get going down a long diatribe to my fiance while she rolls her eyes. I say isn't this fucking amazing she's like IDK! 🥲

I love when Colin gets on his space talk, some of my favourite topics they have done. I do find it strange that he suggests we should explore because curiosity demands it but then whoever gets there first should be able to claim it. Humanity needs to unite in space missions, humanity binds us on earth it should take us to the stars aswell.

On the space topic: rec for a book that came out this year called Challenger by Adam Higginbotham and the doc Good Night Oppy (esp think Micah will enjoy the doc)

Is Deigen dead?

Colin is often talking about how if playstation went away he'd have enough to talk about to not make a difference to him financially. Does he really think his 13k patreons would all just keep paying for a ps retro podcast? Like I'm sure many will but it would absolutely impact his business and income. Interesting take considering he's a very self away guy

We're basically a type 0 civilization as we have not master the total energy of our planet. Type 1 would have total control of the planet. Type 2 would be able to control our star think Dyson sphere.
Yiorgos
That's a great idea.

FYI. In the 80s, Trix (which also tasted sooooo much better) were ball shaped. Then they changed the recipe and shape to fruits (this was a HUGE downgrade in taste). Then they eventually went back to the balls (still not great tasting). This comment was brought to you by a child of the 80s
Have you considered considering considerations considerately considerate
Was I the only one who thought Flo was kinda hot?

Colin’s Google keyword search “Mrs Buttersworth…black..” had me fucking hysterical

Micah’s taste in men/characters is highly suspect. God bless her, though.

Don’t wana sound like a dick, but why are timestamps so hard? I get timestamps on content I DONT pay for 😔

Glad that Matty is addressing GI closure, but can we get a SS+ or separate convo with Gene to discuss his WaPo column about the closure of gameinformer? I think Gene’s insight is really, really vital to the overall conversation around the downfall of games media.
