Constellation, Episode 75 | Biggest Disappointments, Canon in Fiction, Entertaining Guests, Cold Cuts
🕑 Added 2024-06-10 16:02:01 +0000 UTCIt's me, Colin, and I come bearing bad news: Dagan is going to be gone for a few weeks. His work demands his presence over the next several Fridays, and thus I've slid (!) back into the host's chair. Joining me this week are LSM executive producer Dustin Furman, coordinator Micah Moriarty, and special guest Rick Hoeg of Hoeg Law. As always, topics vary wildly. Micah begins by talking about throwing parties and entertaining people at our home. Do we enjoy the process, or is it stressful? I go next with a deep cut (literally): Cold cuts, the glorious sliced meat that make the finest sandwiches imaginable. What are our go-tos? From there, we welcome Dustin's topic, all about our respective lives' biggest disappointments, from games, film, and TV, to work, love, and life in general. Finally, Hoeg brings up the rear with what ended up being our most-explored inquiry of the week: How we deal with fictional canon when we don't like all of it. Are we able to divorce ourselves from some of it and embrace the rest? Is "The Death of the Author" the true law of the land, or is authorial intent everything?

Finally, Hoeg on Stelly!!!

People turn 15/16/17 every day and want to be aware of the great media franchises that came out too early for them. I was 9 year old when GTA 4 came out, some of us have a lot of catching up to do

It's in pretty much every grocery store in America. Walmart may be the only one to not have it and I think that's only the smaller Walmarts even

Ah yes, I love my sauceless pizza and pasta

Colin, I’ve grown up on Long Island for the past 20 or so odd years and I’m here to tell you that TJ’s is still the best around. In fact, I am lucky (and unlucky) enough to live just a few short minutes away from this sandwich paradise. I thought you may be interested to hear some updates about the business. First of all, it moved from the building across the street from the high school to a new building right next to Paca middle school. They also opened up a second location in Patchogue. I wonder if you’ll agree with my contention that TJ’s is not really a deli though. It’s more like a straightforward sandwich shop. One last thing: next time you’re on the island try Se-Port Deli in Setauket. It’s the only place that I think compares to TJ’s, although it’s a little bit different. Take care and happy sandwiching

When I go to a family function multiple people gain up on me. I swiped some icing off the edge of a cake tray and got berated for putting my finger “in” the cake

You can and should show your kids the Hobbit. The animated one.
Zackery Parkerson
I like The Last Jedi.

Omg Micah yes! I love The Wrestler! Great movie.

Interesting, I really like The Lastly of Us Part 2 but only for the combat, how visceral. The story doesn't even matter to me, all I care about is the gameplay.

We are losing the plot with spoilers by having to be wary of spoilers for the Sopranos. A show that ended 17 years ago. Lol what are we doing here?

As a book maybe, even then I don't think I agree.

It was a total sham! Absolute barnacles, even my own Nana lied to me about how great it would be. LOL -Micah

“Yeah ham hands, that’ll get you a date.” - Micah The Life Is Strange disrespect!

Micah talking about her disappointment in puberty/getting her first period is so relatable! Why did fictional media pretend that getting your period was something desirable for girls to go through? Such lies haha

One of my biggest disappointments in life is when I moved to Allentown PA from Williamsburg BK in the year 2000 when I was 14 years old. I remember I watched the movie Airborne a month before I moved here. I thought Allentown would be like the movie. It’s Pennsylvania and the suburbs. I thought I would be Skateboarding, roller blading and playing hockey. I moved here and this place turned out to be just as shitty and ghetto as where I came from. It wasn’t a damn suburb. I was so disappointed 🤣😂😭 One month into living here I bought my first dime bag of weed from the HS star basketball player 😂😂.

While I absolutely LOVED the second game...I firmly dig this stance. The first game was indeed a fantastic ending, and I was perfectly happy with leaving it right there. I didn't want them to do another one, and don't want them to do a third one either....but I was wrong the last time I didn't want them do one haha. You have a very fair stance. 👍

Actively shook my head about Micah's Subway cold cuts take because Firehouse meats are at least three times better. Her take was so bad it prompted me to look up what brand of meat Firehouse uses and discovered they use Boar's Head. I've been a fan of Boar's Head for years and didn't even know it.
Michael Hedrick
I've never seen Boars Head in my life lol I guess when Walmart Deli gets it I'll try it

"Nonetheless, you can't even square the things you care about vs. the things they're making so you almost have to pretend those things don't exist in perpetuity like there can be no new Star Wars for you, in other words." Well Colin you accept the new canon from Disney, there's no new Star Wars for you anyway so what's the difference in just having your own head canon?
Have you considered considering considerations considerately considerate

Revisiting the cold cuts idea for a topic is great. However the answers on this by the Dustin and Micah are an absolute travesty.

Lesson of the final topic is to not argue with a lawyer 😂

With Hoegs topic... The Last of Us is one of my favorite games of all time. I have not and will not play the second one. Not because I think it's bad, but because the first one was a perfect one off story. And that's how I'm leaving it.

Hoeg is the best. Mass effect 2 stinks. It’s effectively a reboot to make room for ps3 players and has you doing 30 hours of repetitive side missions (recruit and loyalty missions) padding out a 4 hour main questline. The sense of exploration completely removed. Horrible horrible pacing. Top 5 most overrated games ever made

The hobbit is far superior to LOTR .

Been wondering when we were gonna get some Hoeg on stelly. Hell yeah!

Kinda Funny is so corporate now its awful. Like Greg is literally anyone's dog for a bone. He's sold his soul and he doesn't care which is sad.
Shawn Kelvey Jr
I love how progressively worse the conversation went in the sandwich section. No cheese on sandwich, dipping chips in ketchup.
Colin Moriarty
The hate on Mass Effect Andromeda is insanely overblown.

I was excited for the cold cuts topics, but I’m now feeling more disturbed.

The debate at the end was fascinating

Micah on Stelly is always a good time.

We are eating good today! Thank you Hoeg for standing on your ground about Rebirth. This new take on the story is just boring Kingdom Hearts goofiness. I completely agree with Hoeg on canon. Once you realize canon can be bought, sold, erased and edited on a whim, it really doesn’t matter. And once these IP enter public domain doesn’t canon go out the window?
Yiorgos
Sucks to hear that the Dagester will be away but happy to have you back Colin!

No Dagen Noooooooooooooo. I'll still be listening to the end.! Thank you LSM for keeping my work days fun. After this the Duke boys dropped the showcase reaction so I'm definitely eating.
