Steam, ASUS, Logitech, and many others have thrown their hat into the ring, but most await what Xbox and PlayStation will do. Recently, it was confirmed that an Xbox handheld is in development, but now Bloomberg has suggested that PlayStation is working on their own too. With the rise of PS Plus and streaming, PlayStation is slimming down the gap between them and Xbox on many features. What will Xbox need to do beyond timing its release well to compete with a company as synonymous with handhelds as Nintendo? More importantly, will Xbox and PlayStation find any success in a market that has seen very little handhelds sold in the scheme of things. We're far removed from the days of the Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance, and PlayStation Portable. So, what gives? The Dukes sink their teeth into this juicy rumor. Naturally, we discuss the evolving situation including Avowed and its art director. Has the situation gone too far and what action can be taken on both sides to mitigate this disaster? I think PS has had a bad year in terms of PR independent of many of the games released. The games themselves have been pretty damn good as a whole though

Matty your Witcher 3 take is one that is immensely popular online, but not one I agree with. Personally I enjoy the combat a lot. One thing that I would love to see improved in TW4 is the movement. TW3 feels horribly stiff while you are just moving around and exploring the world and it’s probably the worst thing about the game. The detective mode also needs to be changed, those sequences got pretty repetitive and predictable.

Not totally unprecedented, you can use GeForce to stream on edge through an Xbox and Sony blocks their games from being streamed there. I feel like Valve would probably put their foot down on that, at least for games already purchased (and then you could just buy them on another device... but that's me prognosticating)

Balatro is super easy to balance with a singleplayer game. I put in 50 hours over probably 3 months, 30 minutes to an hour before bed. Awesome awesome game

In regards to Obsidian, it's incredibly awful for that rep to say that and then to be openly racist against a group of people. Hiring should be on merit. Race should not be a factor. I get why people won't buy this now. Again, people are looking at this and thinking the game is cramming down a political ideology that people are sick of hearing about. That's Matt's fault now. I'm playing it on Gamepass because it looks good. But executives should be sitting Matt down for a serious conversation.

I want to play Avowed because I like those sort of games. What that one dev said sounds shitty but it won’t stop me from playing it. I still feel like CDPR is overrated. Their games have highlights but they haven’t hit a 10/10 for me yet. Combat and core gameplay is what I want to see them nail first. I bought Balatro recently and I get the hook but it didn’t grab me. Maybe I haven’t seen all it has to offer but I was kinda underwhelmed. #ShiestyDD

I have a totally unfounded feeling, just a random hunch, that if third party stores are allowed on the new Xbox, Sony will find a way to block PlayStation games from being bought on it. Either that, or they'll make it to where you can't even see their pages in the store. Is this unprecedented? How would it even be enforceable on what is essentially just a pc box? Dunno. But I think Sony is petty enough to invest major resources to make it happen

My take on the Obsidian situation is I just won't buy it. Not specifically because of the pronouns, but to me this often represents a larger issue. I think it's likely the game will highlight gender and political issues over fantasy immersion and skillful writing. However, if the game in itself is good enough then none of this will matter!

More like it's a terrible year for Xbox. Silent Hill 2, Astro and FF VII are my 3 favourite releases, and others enjoyed Black Myth, Stellar Bladed and Rise of the Ronin. Been a whimper of a year for Xbox, even if Indiana turns out good.

This is what it has come down to for Xbox? It's pretty sad... Handheld wars? I don't even take what Phil says into consideration these days. They said they are working on a console that will take the next technical leap and now it's nowhere to be heard of. What's the point of a handheld now?
