This game has also made me want to go back to older Playstation games. I actually hooked my PS3 up again to play through the Jak and Daxter Remastered Trilogy. I also want to play the Resistance trilogy for the first time. BTW - surprised to see no mention whatsoever of Resistance in astrobot. Maybe that will be one of the ones they add in the upcoming free updates?

I've played a lot of amazing games that have released for year. Astro is probably my GOTY (but it could be Penny's Big Breakaway). That being said it doesn't quite hit the highs of 3d mario because of the limited movement set. Astro is fun and tight to control but all those extra options with mario make it an absolute dream. It ain't far off though. The game is pure joy

Square Enix not wanting their IP in Astro makes sense. There’s definitely something wrong with that relationship — they’ve been aggressively pro anything not Sony ever since they made their full shift to multiplatform. My conspiracy theory is that Sony led them on for years about an acquisition, then didn’t follow through once the bottom of their strategy fell out with Xbox going 3rd party and Bungie blowing up in their faces. Remember when Square Enix shed all their Western devs and dumped like 15 games into the market over just a few months? They were prepping for an acquisition.

I agree that the game should have at least named where the characters came from. The Astros and the way thier costumes are designed I was struggling to recognize some of these characters despite 100% knowing who they were if you showed me their original art.

Horizon games will outsell Astro like 5:1, even though few people actually care about them. Only 60% of players made it through the tutorial in Forbidden West. People like the idea of Horizon, but don’t actually play the games.

I think Colin is pretty wrong about “These aren’t the types of games people want from PlayStation”. I have never seen the cesspool known as Twitter be SO positive about a game like they have Astro Bot. On the flipside, I barely see anyone praise Horizon. Hopefully the sales back this up.
