Please Clap: "The RSS Situation" Should Be Fixed
🕑 Added 2025-03-27 02:15:42 +0000 UTCGreetings and good evening, specifically to you and you alone.
As you no doubt recall, we made profound changes to our RSS feed structure last month. To sum things up in short, we joined an alpha test here on Patreon to deploy individual RSS feeds for our various shows, something we (well, I) had assumed for years was a major ask amongst our paying audience. But it wasn't a clearly thought-out plan, and it didn't account for the many users who liked the status quo just fine. In fact, it kinda mucked-up their entire experience.
Before I get into the nuts-and-bolts, I'll just come out and say it: Our RSS feed structure is now 'fixed' and will accommodate both types of users, those who want a la carte feeds only for the shows they opt-in for, and traditional-style users who liked it all in a single moon-emblazoned feed. (If you don't yet see this full run of options, give it a day or two, as it could be [and likely is] that things are still rolling out more widely.)
If you're unfamiliar with RSS, don't know how to find links to add to your podcast app, or have other questions, everything about Patreon's RSS functionality can be found here and here. Please read the links if you are having trouble, as it's fairly certain that your issue will be remedied within.
When you now go to Last Stand's Patreon RSS list (pictured within), you'll see the best of both worlds: Each of our shows available individually, and then a so-called "Combined Feed" that will incorporate everything we publish to any RSS feed. In other words, the Combined Feed acts as exactly what you had until mid-February. Thus, for those that want it all, have it all. For those that want access to only individual shows, select your poison(s).
There's an important caveat: Since we treated our old, core RSS feed as the Sacred Symbols feed beginning last month (so as to limit movement around our flagship show), that feed may now revert for you back to being the Combined Feed. In other words, if you're an a la carte enjoyer and listen to Sacred Symbols, you may need to re-add a fresh Sacred RSS link to your podcast app. Likewise, if you're a Sacred Symbols enjoyer and fear the unified feed, you may find that you have to opt into a fresh RSS link for Sacred Symbols. At this early hour, it's unclear to us what's happening on this front, but we see this as being the only sticking point. So please be aware that you may need to make a couple of moves, should you see any funkiness with the way things are published from here on out.
Before I part, I also wanted to speak on something else. The decision to make these changes to our RSS feeds was mine, and it was a profoundly poor one, undoubtedly one of the dumber things I've done as a business owner, CEO, and corporate steward. As I explained when we rolled these alterations out, complaints about our unified RSS feed easily constituted the single most-received piece of feedback we garnered on Patreon, going all the way back to 2018, when we first published multiple shows. We're talking about hundreds and hundreds of individual complaints, easily. But over the years, I began to not only internalize that feedback, but also worked fastidiously to get Patreon to change things. I never really considered the other side of the coin. So when Patreon finally approached me after years of begging and said they were ready to try it, I accepted the offer without a second thought. This was obviously a mistake, one that annoyed a lot of people, and even cost us some business. I'm not perfect and never claimed to be, so I can accept defeat. I'm truly blessed and won't spend too much time crying over spilt milk. But I did want to apologize for the needlessness of it all. I thought I was delivering on something monumental for our paying audience. If I didn't, I would have never made a change at all.
There's another side of the coin, though, in that your feedback (while occasionally dramatic and maybe even a little vitriolic) was essential in alerting Patreon as to the need of a 'global' feed that would solve all of our problems. It sucks to have to 'test' things on our audience, but I guess that's the entire point of alphas and betas to begin with. No one really understood (or even really considered) that this would be a problem, and in hindsight, that's kind of crazy. But we just didn't know. Now we do. So all should be well. For all of the tests Patreon has run on LSM over the years (some of which you aren't even aware of), this is the only one that's gone south for us. I take total responsibility for that. I'm sorry.
Anyway, all should now be well, and RSS options for you to peruse overfloweth.
Thanks for reading, as well as for your support and patience. Be well. -Colin

15th April I’m legit just mossing shows now because of there being no Spotify combined feed. Missing exclusives and knockback and now I keep having to refer back here to find episodes i’m missing.
KDB
April 11th. Still no combined feed for Spotify users. Sadly this will be my last month as a paid patreon member until it's resolved. I have missed multiple shows because of this change. :(
Marius Skarsem Pedersen
Noticed I was getting double up on the shows, now, so thought this was the reason. This is a good solution, and if this is the biggest issue we've had, I think we're doing pretty good. Have a good weekend.
KDB
As some have said - I see the 'combined feed', but when I open it in Spotify, it's just listing Sacred. Happy to give it a day or two but currently not working properly for me. I can't take this much edging.
KDB
currently not for me, it just opens sacred...
KDB
Same. I click 'combined' and it's just SS. Though he did say it could take a day or two. I'll keep checking.
KDB
I am clapping. Thank you for this! I've definitely been listening to fewer shows since the change, and getting a unified feed will make it easy for me to make sure I don't miss anything. Signed, a weirdo who likes all the content. Thanks again
Guybrush Threepwood
I just deleted all the individual RSS's and now only have the 1. Problem solved.
Guybrush Threepwood
Now go listen to your 2nd favorite podcast.
Guybrush Threepwood
How appropriate.
Migical Merwee
I appreciate this

NGL I think now the actually Patreon App feed is now screwed. I didn’t see Punching Up at all yesterday and it seems all jumbled in the Patreon timeline now. Not sure if it’s just adjusting after the change. But I actually prefer using the Patreon feed itself to listen always have and I have zero problems with it. I use Spotify for music and I hate mixing that with podcasts and Apple Podcasts is just for my free stuff.
Alex Watson
Working fine now. Thanks!
JD
Thanks for restoring the combined feed. However I found that the Spotify RSS Combined Feed still links to the Sacred Symbols only feed.
J92
Now I’d added the individual feeds and sorted it all out and the unified feed has repopulated all the unplayed episodes it hadn’t posted since the change. I know this was all with good intentions but not I have to either mark all the episodes as played from the unified feed and remove each of the individual feeds or delete all the individual feed stuff. New day new problem.

"(If you don't yet see this full run of options, give it a day or two, as it could be [and likely is] that things are still rolling out more widely.)" I admittedly didn't take that to mean that the link for the complete feed would link to what appears to be a duplicate of the Sacred Symbols only feed, and only have Sacred Symbols shows in it. I would, of course, expect some hiccups. I figured it meant that not all shows would propagate in the feed completely.
Robert
Handled this perfectly, thanks Colin 👏
Rob Pursglove
Why is there no audio option in the 'collections 'menu again? Anyone else having this issue?
Giovanni D'Amico
Thank you for your attention and hard work on this, team! I was annoyed when my unified feed crapped out in the change and I had to do a little work to break out into separate feeds, but once I sat down and spent five minutes organizing the separate feeds, I came to prefer it. Glad the unified feed is now back for those who still want it.
Deathspank
Is the combined feed going to work for Spotify?
StewDog
Sacred Symbols feed reverted back to the unified feed for me on Android/Pocket Casts. Went and readded the Sacred RSS link, and removed the unified. Worked perfectly! Thanks for all your efforts on this Colin and gang.
Ben Bell
Personally I like having seperate feeds, but this is awesome to see as now everyone can have exactly what they want. Thanks Colin and the Patreon team!
Zack E
Gonna make another comment here: The introduction of separate feeds was not the issue! That is great! It’s not that no one likes the separate feeds. It was the sudden removal of the unified feed. People are being so stubborn on this in regard to judging the reactions lmao good lord. At any rate this is great, serves everyone. Thanks Colin, thanks Patreon.
Zack E
Yeah…it was rough day what can I say lol I have a process. The process had been working for years. And it suddenly changed. It’s not so much about if before was better or worse, but just the sudden change. I have to deal with sudden changes elsewhere in life I’d like to limit it in the fun parts of life
Zack E
Yeah….it was a bizarre reason to cancel. It’s hard to say though because the option wasn’t there. But shot in the dark, I do agree I don’t think those are stable customers
Kristen Zwick
Thank you so much for listening to feedback and for working with patreon to get this fixed. Very happy to have my unified rss feed back.
Nader Nekvasil
This is so great! Thank you, Colin. It’s not working for me yet but I’m sure it will be up soon. One more thing I’ll add is this: just think of how Knockback is returning. The Unified feed allows patrons to immediately see that. Without the unified feed, patrons that don’t go into the Patreon app would have never discovered this.
XR911
I do NOT see the combined feed link in Patreon. I am in the Patreon app (Android) and selected "Add to Podcast App" then RSS links. I see all of the individual links but not combined feed.....Is there a simple step by step?
Brandon Garvin
The post said it could take a day or two for the backend to update.
Zach
This would most likely require them to host video files like they do the mp3 files for audio. I can’t imagine they would do that.
Wiskysin
The Combined Feed for Spotify link via Patreon is just a Sacred Symbols only feed on my phone. I'll try on a PC later, though I can't imagine why it would be any different. I unfollowed everything first, so that's not the issue.
OrochiNewsTeam
Always and forever will be a non issue for me. I didn't even want on screen video content. But good for those people.

I have no idea what an "RSS feed" is.
Krusher99
Congratulations or sorry that happened idk I’m not reading allat
Tom Gentry
I just want you to know that you’ve built such an impressively reliable machine with the company that I don’t even need to bother with RSS feeds. I just know to open up Patreon every day but Sunday (although you’ve been surprising us recently) at noon and check out the latest show. I appreciate that so much!
Pater_M
Colin, good leaders listen to feedback (you did both in making and unwinding the change), but also don't dig in heels when things don't work as expected. I have built $25 Million in construction projects as the final decision maker. There are always some details that don't work as expected. As a pastor, I tell folks, "the perfection you seek is not found in this world. Don't expect it."
Dante B
Thrilled to have this back. And if someone cancelled their Patreon support over it, which is insane, they weren’t sticking around long to begin with.
The Rose Experience
Love it, thanks for fixing this Colin. Great job.
James Schubert
The main (full) feed was never what I was looking for but I can see how some people would prefer this option. This seems like a final bit of polish that keeps everyone happy. Good to see Last Stand continually update it's service to benefit it's customer base though. Truly the best service for the money!
Seth
I would hope that everybody would understand that this is Sarcasm designed to poke fun at the world of internet outrage and the fact that when anything changes somebody will complain. Even if the reasoning is so stupid somebody will find something to complain about. The humor to be found here is due to the fact that this change does nothing but gives everyone what they want and has 0 negative repercussion. The idea that 1 little icon on a list of RSS feeds is enough to trigger me is supposed to represent the fragility and to be frank, whiney nature of the current culture (or at least a small handful of individuals). The fact that there are responses questioning the sincerity of my original post just add to the humor as it proves that people will question obvious sarcasm because you have all seen this asshole above. It's a wonderful world, this is a wonderful podcast network. Resubbed.
Mike Held
Colin, this was never a big deal.
Anthony Wertman
Biggest thing for was that it reset my played/unplayed shows. Also combined feed link is not showing on Patreon for me
Stephen King
You fight like a dairy farmer!
Alex Watson
Idk if it’s just me, but some of these links aren’t working on Apple. Punching Up and Summon Sign are giving me trouble
Zack E
My autistic tendencies extremely appreciates this. Thank you
Jason W
I appreciate all you do to make our experience great! I wasn't bothered by either structure, but I love seeing how much effort you put into your community!
TGBahr
Never been affected. I simply open Patreon to see if there's anything new.
Tim
Don't be too hard on yourself! The erasure of the unified feed was baffling but it's been resolved. I think one of the most interesting aspects of all of this broadly speaking is that; people that are content with things don't say anything. So in this case, the silent majority which were 1000s of people VS 100s, got the lesser product.
Matthew Cooper
Thanks! This is great

I think the thing that really caused the confusion/frustration was that there was no warning before it happeded (at least for someone who only listenes to the shows, I don't know if it was mentioned in the discord or patreon). Had there been a poll asking people if they "wanted individual feeds, loved the unified feed, or didn't mind either way" you would have had more of an understanding of how much of the audience wanted the unified feed. Also if you had mentioned that the feeds were changing and the date of the change on the shows for a couple of weeks before the switch people would have been able to mentally prep themselves for the change. And while saying you should give people a heads up before making a big change sounds like you're trying to wrap fully grown adults up in cotton wool to protect them against a slight inconvience, a large proportion of neurodivergent people (whether they've been diagnosed or not) are highly attracted to video games (and thus these podcasts) and don't do well with sudden changes.
Jayce Tamulevich
Colin, I think people have over reacted to this from the beginning, but I do appreciate your diligence and effort in trying to give everyone the best experience possible. Like you’ve said before, many people quietly listen without saying anything, but are happy with LSM and its many offerings.
Ryan Taylor
Huge win I’m so excited, thanks Colin & Co.
Patrick Lebon
Thank you Colin for giving back a unified feed, much appreciated 👍
Big St3ph3n
This is huge. Thanks for helping us out. I love the combined feed and I’ve missed out on a lot cause I’m a douche and didn’t want to go do it! Anxiously waiting for the roll out!
Guybrush Threepwood
dude you coulda told us this in like 1 paragraph.
Daniel M
Surely this is comment is sarcastic? If not, this overreaction is WILD!! You use the link to the feeds once and you're done, never have to look at them again.
Tatman2TheResQ
Seth
This is bullshit! There is now just ANOTHER line when we look at the RSS feed list. It's already a clusterfuck with all the shows already there and now I can't even tell up from down. Do better. Unsubbed.
Wayne Moss
Thanks Colin personally i like the individual RSS feeds but also didn’t have a issue with the original combined feed. So having them either way hasn’t really impacted me but it’s fantastic that there’s an option for both so you can have whatever you personally prefer 👏🏻 👏🏻.
Caleb Greer
Day 1 Patron, I only use the Patreon app. But happy to be here!
Devin
Nobody would have handled this situation the way you did. Thank you for your utmost professionalism, you really set the example of how to run a business on this platform. Still the best value on Patreon, by a lot!
tracefree
Colin I’m 100% the guy that benefited the most from this change. I always wanted separate feeds so I’ll just let you know that the change wasn’t 100% bad but maybe only for a small group of people.
Ultimate Sexbot! P.S it spins!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Anthony Palerino
Praise be to LSM. Thanks guys!
Josh Gamez
This whole situation feels like making a mountain out of a mole hill lmao
Nicholas Wade
Nice to change back to how it was. Just easier for everything to be in one place. Nice response and post as well, Colin.
Drew Agnew
Thank you Colin. ☺️
This is not an Xbox. This is Patrick.
👏👏👏 I don’t use it but I do it for the homies that do.
Jonathan Gould
Oh no he’s porkin the feeds again! You could send this shit on a floppy disk in the mail to the wrong address and I’d still hunt them down for a listen. Go to bed Colin, love you.
Owen
Internet. Easy for people to hide behind, and be their worst selves
Zac
Unless I have a total misunderstanding I don't think there's really a way to do that. The episodes are all on YouTube so the feed would basically be a link in your podcasting app that would take you to YouTube
Zac
Damn that was quick Patreon is on the ball
Andy T
I don’t get it- why were people being “vitriolic”? Like I remember commenting at the time that I’d rather the unified feed, but I’d get used to the multiple feeds…who is getting that upset about a fucking gaming podcast rss feed?!
Brandon Garvin
Thank you! The separate feeds is nice for those who enjoy it, but the way Spotify organizes podcasts just makes it too messy for me. Glad we all have options now!
Daniel
Woohoo! Hail to the king.
Largent Brewer
I thought I would miss the unified feed, but I’ve grown accustomed to the individual feeds. But this is a great progress to making everyone happy. Well done Chowder-man!
Dallas Robbins
thanks you!!!!!!
Dennis Löfgren
Would it be possible to do RSS feeds for the video versions?
AL022
Still will never touch the combined feed, but glad the minorly inconvenienced people can now be satiated and we never have to talk about this again.
Dan Patterson
Thanks for everything you all do. Content is better than ever.

Thank you!
Tom Sullivan
This is so good. And coming from someone who uses android auto and drives hours a day being able to listen to the extended stuff on Spotify without ads is a DREAM (again). Thanks for looking out col.

LSM gets me through the workday so I will listen no matter what but I really do appreciate this!
Manuel Nascimento
Cheers for acknowledging and thinking about this situation. For my part, truth is “I don’t care” is what applies to me. I split my life into Apple Podcasts and Patreon releases so it’s easy to organise things. That being said, it’s uber ironic to me that RSS feeds are seemingly dead when there was a time when I had the best life on the internet: curated filter on the sources I chose. “We can’t have nice things” meme applies… Cheers everyone on LSM and community
PairOfShuse
Thanks for going the extra mile. Honestly I liked the combined feed as it always was but I’ve already gotten used to the separate feeds and actually prefer it this was. Much each to find episodes of specific shows
Sindri
Thanks, Fat
Rex Cohen
Thank you Colin for actually listening. The fact that you actually pressured Patreon to bring back a unified feed and made it a priority shows that you authentically care about the audience experience and the company. Keep up the good work!
David Wilson II
Hey, bro. Either way is fine with me! I just appreciate all the work you and the LSM crew put into everything you do.

Great customer service. That said, I’m a multi-RSS person. Combined was quite annoying.

You live and learn. I don't use the RSS feeds and honestly didn't see the complaints but in order to grow you must fail.

I appreciate having both options. I do prefer the combined feed as I listen to almost everything. Thanks!

LSM.... Men of the people
Casey Weinmann
I was confused when my Sacred Symbols feed was gone only to discover it had turned back in to the global feed. I'm going to finish what I have in the individual feeds and move back to the global feed. Thank you for keeping us all in the loop every step of the way, keep up the great work at LSM!
