Is the progressive argument regarding racism or rather power structures? As for Fallout since the first game in the begining there has been fairly solidly formed arguments for progressive sentiments in the writing. Pillars of Eternity 2 for example is pretty crystal clear on how Colonialism can negatively effect a local populous. Art often is political because it emulates real life which is okay, everything in reality has a political aspect to it.

Lots of people just see anti racism and anti discrimination themes in things and just think that means the game is progressive. Seems like a bit of a surface level reading because Bioshock infinite is also anti racism and anti discrimination but I would not say that that game is Progressive. Could also be a fallout type deal where people both left and right read into it what they want, and therefore both sides see the game as supporting their side

Matty and Cog say Metaphor: ReFantazio was progressive and nobody complained. Colin and Dustin said it wasn't progressive, but say a bunch of people wrongly accused it of being so. Wished there had been some crossover on the spoilercast to debate that.

I really just don’t get the opinion of hey let’s wait for a game to come out and play it before we make a judgment. If you do that, then you can’t vote with your wallet. You can’t purchase the game then see 8 things you really hate about it. We live in a time where developers are out on social media actively bashing gamers and saying they hope their game pisses people off with stuff like pronouns and genders. With very little exception, at the very very least, I will not buy a game new if they use Type A and Type B over Male and Female. Doing that is antithetical to any type of reality and a purely political/ideologically forced view of the world that almost zero people apply to their lives or get offended by. Even the people they are targeting don’t believe that crap. The very few that do, why would you want to appeal to 0.00000000000001% over everyone else and biological reality. Games journalists and people in the industry itself need to stop being so antagonist and work on actually courting gamers again. When that happens in an authentic way, gamers will come around. It’s going to take a lot of work though as it’s been over a decade since they have been openly hating on the crowd they are supposed to be presenting their work to.

Btw some of you Xbox guys writing into the show gotta calm down. Y’all wanting the industry to trash PlayStation for mismanagement the same way they do Xbox is an emotional reaction. PlayStation has certainly mismanaged the live service attempt yes but xbox has been a raging dumpster fire of mismanagement and horrific messaging since 2012. Having a mis step isn’t really comparable to BEING a mess for 14 straight years. I know you Xbox dudes thirsty for any “win” you can find but let’s reel it back in toward reality a little bit please.
