I’ve just beat the game, took me about 22-23 hours. Final thoughts are - Slightly longer than I would have wanted, would have removed maybe two layers. - A few of the layers were very bland in terms of appearance and lacked character compared to the very first real layer you travel to, the theme park layer, etc. - Enemies aren’t varied enough, too much of the same. - Loved the powerups. - Loved how fun it was to get about the layers, how easy DK felt to control - Loved the final boss Overall, the game is a solid 8.5 bananas out of 10 for me.

I can absolutely tolerate an unstable frame rate but I’ll never fucking deny that it actively detracts from the gameplay experience and can be jarring as hell.

I totally get Gene’s annoyance at the game industry not moving gameplay forward and instead focused on details like clipping and graphics. But frankly, I’m glad there’s at least one studio out there that wants to push that sorta thing forward like Naughty Dog. Certain aspects of game dev has always been about how can we flex our technical ability, make other devs go “how the fuck did they do that?” It’s just annoying when it becomes an arms race and they all try to do it. But I think Naughty Dog pushes the envelope while also making games that play really well and I don’t want that to go away.
