One reason given against marrying early is that one needs to be purged of neuroticism and insecurity via the personal growth that follows failed relationships. I’m not sure it actually works like that a lot of the time but do you think there is some validity there? My feeling is that waiting to be fully happy and sane before starting to love might take a while.

For Liz -- in recent ep you talked about how the right-wing online Catholics will always be dissatisfied as long as the pope doesn't condone racism which is p sad for them. I was wondering if there's some version of that for all Catholics, as in everyone may have some kind of views they don't really vibe with and if yes how do they tend to, and/or how are they supposed to, approach it - in general and for you in particular. In your case for example I believe you've expressed before negative views about the church's position on contraception. And you've also written extensively about failures of prosecuting crimes committed by priests within the institution. How do you approach these things in the context of your faith? What's hard and easy about it? Does it sow doubt on other things? For most intellectual things it's easy for humans to compartmentalize, but I wonder how people do it with faith, given I imagine it to be more all-encompassing than other beliefs. I find the concept of faith very fascinating. Thank you!!

For my part, I will say that as with most such things, the key is prevention or early treatment. Check the cat's coat regularly, and, if a mat has started to form, cut it out immediately. Nip it in the bud, as it were.

I went on a trip with my guy friends and their girlfriends recently. None of them have kids, i'm a married man with a child and expecting another. We are in our late 20s/early 30s. The women started discussing the pressure of having kids due to the "biological clock" and how much pressure society puts on you to have kids at our age. I think people (both men and women) need to take this much more seriously, as my wife and I have, if they want to have a family. But I stayed out of the convo. I get the sense that men don't think about this enough. What's the best way to talk about it?

Any thoughts on mdma couples therapy? It saved our relationship. We’re a pretty straightedge couple, with two kids and consuming careers. But our relationship is the healthiest it’s ever been due to a few therapy sessions and a few mdma trips. Also, heard a clip on NPR that SWFs primarily help countries that are already rich, and what they ultimately do is increase the wealth gap between rich and poor countries. Does Matt have a response to this? I’m pro-SWF (and usually anti-NPR), but this seems like a worthy critique.
