Such an amazing chapter such a cool fight scene can’t wait for next week

Matthew Escobar

Ok so I misread something, probably combination of drowsiness from waking up and excitement from a new chapter drop, sorry for that. Honestly, I'm super excited about how Iztac is going to fight and somehow beat a Vainquer sized Sugey, as well as how he's going to come out of it. I bet he'll probably use that spell that drags you to xibalba so that he doesn't worsen things with the first emperor's seal, have sugey experience the same pain she dishes out from the masters of torture themselves. Than somehow, probably spin master Ingrid, will spin it as the Sapa's or The First Emperor's fault, hopefully keeping him in the clear, because I don't see how he'll keep an army in enemy territory happy for long, even with that display. Or maybe he'll ally with Cachi in taking down his brother and the mallquis, get in good with Qutzelcoatl with these displays and hopefully his teachings, get the third ember and march towards killing the rest of the nightlords. Ooh I'm just so excited!!! These imaginations are all I have to keep the want for the next chapter at bay. Keep up the awesome work!!!

And now it REALLY kicks off. I've so looked forward to Izatac's first true stand against the Four. Interestingly enough, Sugey's blood/life force infusion from her priests reminds me a LOT of Bloodstream from A Perfect Run. I loved seeing that Though I am a little sad we didn't get more Sugey. I actually liked having one of the Nightlord's treat Izatc with the vaguest of respects

Void Herald

I don't see the spelling mistake, could you elaborate? As for the cliff, well, that's the kind of chapters that takes a while to write down ;)

Void Herald

Brutish person, brutal weapon ;)

Void Herald

I kinda imagine Iztac's Tlacatecolotl form like this: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/e0/78/2c/e0782c1c2fbe059155695c792d9f3802.jpg

CentaureHeart

Damn that was a great one. Thanks! :)

Charles

I don't know why, but Sugey using a mace just seems so appropriate. You'd think reading giant bird monster with a mace would make you stop and hmm, but nope, I found myself nodding along like 'yes, mace makes total sense here'. Epic battle. Can't wait to see round two. Great character growth as well.

Dylan Alexander

One way I see is for him to pass out temporarily, and be transported to Quetzalcoatl, then beg or whatever for the third set of embers.

RA

I agree that she's too weak to help directly and I dont expect her to physically fight. But if she does recruit the malquis or even on her own, I imagine the help would be indirectly either boosting itztac's spells or working to weaken Sugey's. I dont think they need much help in the purge especially without the red eyed priests and as far as I remember Astrid isn't at or near the battlefield.

Matthew Escobar

Ok first off i noticed a spelling mistake, spelled predictably wrong, i think. Second of all, come on!!! You can't just leave us on a cliff hanger like that! I can't wait a whole week to see how the grude match will (hopefully) end. All this to say this chapter has been awesome!

Yuval Roth

To be honest, she was smart to not join the fight, she isn’t strong enough to matter there, she would have died the blood spell and at most gotten Itzac a few seconds of distraction while the bird ate her, what she should do to help him is either go find Astrid to secure her for the spell against the snake, or join the purge, possibly find sleeping vampires to slaughter, throwing herself to death pointlessly is not a sign of bravery.

RA

Thank you for the chapter! I think his mother will remember her promise to Itzli and come back with reinforcements like malquis. I think this really will be the now or never moment for her and if she doesn't step up and take this risk for her children when he needs the most help, then I think it would be the end of her character arc.

Carlos Torres

So right now is he dressed up as a Owl based Kamen Rider right now, complete with mid leap transformation?

Yuval Roth

Really good job with the build up for this fight, my heart was beating nervously from the start of the chapter, I could already imagine where this was going and seeing Itzac’s nervousness when he started attacking echoed my own.

Ben

I gotta wait a week for the conclusion 😭 😭

MasterofNova

There is an argument there but personally I'd go either way. I don't really remember the scene much but considering the character I believe Jonah was under threat of death to give Peter up. I believe choosing one's own survival over another's isn't inherently an evil act if such a decision is forced upon you. It feels disingenuous to me to say that life or death decisions makes are evil acts cause that implies survival in itself is evil and that's a completely different convo. And I was already thinking of strength from an mental integrity POV. "I don't think lacking strength of will to stand up for yourself or others makes you an evil person, it just makes you a weak one" while I said weakness is a neutral characteristic, it is also a contemptible one as well. Or as you say a negative one. That doesn't make it an evil trait tho. It's kinda like being fat. It's not healthy or looked favorably upon but it has little to do with the moral integrity of a person. Characteristics, mentality or philosophy determines one's morality, only one's actions do.

locky

I would argue that the act of giving up peter would be an evil act. People are not perfect and I don't think that a single act can define a person. So I would not jonah evil on that act alone but it would certainly not be an neutral act. "Someone can not be in a position of power but still have strong moral integrity" I agree and I would add that lacking power but still holding to convictions takes "strength" Don't think of strength as being literal power but the ability to stick to your convictions. cause yeah I agree that having literal weakness is a neutral characteristic but having weak convictions/not following your principles is a negative characteristic and I think that is what Iztac is getting at. His decision in thais chapter has not made him stronger literally but it is the first time in a while he has shown "strength".

Runaway_Cactuar

On the plus side, if the red priests are all downed, his allies would have an easier time purging the rest of the loyalists. But man, tough to see how Iztac pulls through without divine intervention. Or maybe his mother does something useful for once...

locky

Yeah I noticed that too, I have a feeling the reveal of tomb might be where she figures out this is not her father.

locky

Ok makes sense. I image it could also serve as proof of death, cause it does not take a genius to connect this to what happened at smoke mountain and it's kinda hard to cover up all the red priests loyal to one sister dying simultaneously.

MasterofNova

I'm moreso held up by the being weak equalling being evil bit. I don't think lacking strength of will to stand up for yourself or others makes you an evil person, it just makes you a weak one and being weak is more of a neutral characteristic than a good or evil one. In regards to the Jonah example, if he had given Peter up it wouldn't have made him an evil man, just a weak one. Someone can not be in a position of power but still have strong moral integrity. That's kinda what makes them good folk.

Void Herald

Oh, of course she's projecting there ;) but it's a reasonable assumption.

Nicholas

That's one way of looking at it I suppose, but I just think it's thematically fitting for the so called warrior goddess to fall for her own propaganda.

locky

I would argue weakness/cowardice is very much metaphorical here. Taking the easy way out and letting others suffer for it is something you can do regardless of your level of power. Good case example is green goblin/j jonah jameson scene where Jonah refuses to give peter up. Jonah is not in a position of power but he definitely shows strength and bravery

Void Herald

Sugey only holds sway over her own priests/nightkin, so those empowered by the other Nightlords are safe (to be used in the future)... though it's a big blow to Yohuachanca nonetheless.

Void Herald

Well from her pov, which is more likely: that the same ungodly abomination she's stealing her power from has empowered someone to kill her, or that Iztac magically visits a realm of magic whenever he sleeps? ;)

locky

Did Surgery just kill all the red priests or just those she created? If the former in an attempt to save herself she may have doomed the empire. Firstly because he sisters can't pull the same trick when it would be much more favourable and secondly cause the empire's entire police network just died.

Nicholas

Also as a side note; I like the fact that Sugey is so deep in her own delusions that she can't recognize genuine power when she sees it, rationalizing it as her father's meddling instead of acknowledging Iztac's own achievements.

Nicholas

Hmmm... maybe Iztac doesn't have as much of an advantage as I intially thought. My guess is that this battle will be clinched by divine intervention in the form of the Fifth Sun. If the Queen of the Dead is to be believed then Iztac shares much in common with the current living sun, so much so that it might intervene at a critical juncture to tip the scales. While Sugey's death would no doubt harm the Fifth Sun it's probably something he's willing to endure given his lore, especially since Iztac seems to have picked up a life lesson that resonates with him.

Nicholas

I mean... that's pretty much what Iztac said. Evil, according to him, is when you take the easy way out at the expense of someone else. Sugey fits rather snugly into this definition since she's literally using stolen power, from her father and her servants, to oppress others and has the audacity to call them weak.

MasterofNova

Have to disagree with Iztac's definition of evil, weakness and cowardice is often contemptible but only when in positions of power and authority over others can they truly be evil. Otherwise the world would just run off of xianxia logic at that point. Imo the best way to describe evil is willingly choosing to cause others pain or suffering for one's own happiness/pleasure/satisfaction. Which is why I found Iztac's hypocrisy so loathsome since he tried to use righteousness and moral grandstanding to mask the fact he was ultimately fighting his oppressors and killing thousands for his own personal happiness when it came down to it. Idk if you've listened to the Epic Musical but it's the same reason why Odysseus is recognizes himself as a monster. Outside of that tho, nice chap. Hope Sugey won't die anytime soon, would be a shame for the best of the night lords to be offed as soon as her status was truly gained.

Dune Black

Oh my god I love It. It's so epic.

Stultus

We pray to the Feathered Serpent, for his mercy.

Void Herald

Sugey is what we call a giant hypocrite ;) praising virtues she never had.

mhaj58

Finally Iztac has struck. Like the attack on titan reference. Cizin shall begin his own legacy by striking down a faker. It’s fitting how some people take what belongs to someone else and then convince themselves that they have earned it. Or that it had always been theirs by right.

Yuval Roth

It’s great, I wonder how he is getting out of this one, because he was doubtful before she gone super sayian, than again, he didn’t draw on the emperor, the tomb or shown any lord of fright powers yet, he could still pray to Tlaloc as well.
