Blood & Fur Chapter 52: Father & Son

Amazing chapter. The emperors are too cynical and jaded . I believe in itzili. I hope mother and son build their relation up

Yuval Roth

I really love how this conversation basically acknowledged some of his biases and would potentially lead to him looking at her more fondly, she is still a selfish monster, but she did appear to genuinely love him, and did give a great afterlives to her "guests". I hope the parliament wouldn't be proved right and that her better nature will win, on one hand they are experienced enough that I would usually trust them, on the other, they are predisposed to dislike her as well. I suspect her test will be when she discovers what he means to gift Tlaloc, the temptation of a way to get his sun ambers after years of no progress, and in return dooming her son to death.

Yuval Roth

Iztac already knows of her crimes, and who to tell how she turns out in the future, I personally suspect the skulls will be right because of their experience, but she did show love, as long as it wouldn't come to risk her life, I don't see how she will change, maybe the flask he is meant to bring to Tlaloc will make her betray him.

oh no, now i have to go and listen to sad songs

This was one of the best chapters of the book

Void Herald

Iztac is critical of his mother because he's very much afraid of becoming like her ;)

Every chapter I am consistently amazed by this book. I've always liked your writing Void, but you've still noticeably grown year after year, and now this. I think you're cooking something really special with Blood and Fur.

MasterofNova

I really appreciate Itzili, especially for the defense of his wife since while I didn't condone her actions, it seemed easy to see how she got to the way she is with how quickly Iztac was able to sacrifice hundreds of not thousands of people once he considered his goal more important than their lives. His critiques of her, while valid, always seemed a bit hollow purely because it came from him since the only people as selfish as the night lords is Iztac and mum. Also the point of people choosing to live idle lives under the thrall of higher powers rather than be free to do what they can (not really what they please) outside of the control of another is something I've been waiting to see brought up. Recently reread God Emperor of Dune and Iztac gives major Siona vibes but I like him way more since he's far more justified in comparison.

Diego Urbina

I think it depends on how much Iztac starts to tolerate her actions and if he actually manages to bond with her. They're basically strangers sharing only blood for now. Funnily enough they are similar in some ways, just not good ones. Also I just want to note we actually havent seen if Ichtaca can or is willing to change.

Matthew Flowers

Hey dad remember how Nehecual adopted me… well now she’s pregnant with your grandchild.

Stultus

I'm going to choose to believe in Itzili's belief; that when Ichtaca's back is against the wall, when the choice is her son or herself, Ichtaca will choose to sacrifice herself for her son. The Parliament are wise, experienced, and incredibly jaded. A few centuries of tethered undeath, with nothing but the promise of a near eternity of more captivity probably has left them a little bit spiteful. How's it go again? Always expect the worst, so you're always right, or pleasantly surprised? Those kinds of people never end up pleasantly surprised. There's always another fly in the ointment.

Void Herald

That'll be for next chapter, alongside some parental advice ;)

Nicholas

Must suck being the only optimist in the room, trying to meekly point out the glass has some water in it while everyone else insists it's almost empty. Although I did expect a bit more teasing from Itzili to lighten the mood a bit, especially since his son is grown up and now has wives. Perhaps inquiring more about his new daughter in-laws ;)

Carlos Torres

She probably put up a wind screen.

Void Herald

Ichtaca is a dangerous woman, but she's not Mengele bad XD

Matthew Flowers

Surprised the Yaotzin wont confirm the Parliaments viewpoint. The Harshest truth can carry a wind’s whisper to the deepest levels of helll

Carlos Torres

This is like the Parks and Rec meme of April and Andy, except April has been replaced with female Josef Mengele

Void Herald

Iztac explicitely didn't tell him much about Necahual, and well, Itzili never really considered her a close friend. As he said, he thought that she was 'well-predisposed towards him'; he saw her as a good neighbor and remained unaware of her feelings for him. As for his reaction, well, that's a lot of information to digest at once XD I see Itzili as someone who's more likely to react with sadness than anger or outbursts, if that makes sense.

I’m hoping for some AI art depicting Iztac family reunion. Itzili reminds me of a man who has practiced self deception so much he forgot what was real. I wonder if we’ll learn what he thinks of Necahual, I’m surprised that the father had an under reaction to discovering that his oldest friend abused his son, or that said friend is now his son’s concubine
