Blood & Fur Chapter 66: The House of Bats

The wind may sell Iztac out without fulfilling the betrayal prophecy. What is unsettling about the betrayal prophecy is the ambiguity of its fulfillment. Did the Skinwalker's face-stealing or Eztli tampering with Necahual's contraceptives fulfill the prophecy? Even if one of Iztac's friends sold him out, is the prophecy fulfilled or will a greater betrayal occur later? Even if the prophecy is fulfilled, Iztac's position is precarious enough that more betrayals may follow. The room for interpretation makes me think the betrayal prophecy will loom over Iztac for a while.

Yuval Roth

Betrayal came with the face of a friend, the wind was never his friend, so if it is the wind, the prophecy is still unfulfilled, unless the information it revealed came from a friend speaking to the wind, maybe.

Flufflez

While some of Iztac's human allies are certainly suspects, the Yaotzin may have sold Iztac out. It is the enemy of both sides, after all. And, it seems like the source most likely to sell secrets. This is, of course, assuming that Iztacoatl isn't trying to trick Iztac with deception and maybe magic.

Amazing chapter- the cliffhanger though why isn’t next Saturday

Void Herald

Don't. The First Emperor is a very tragic figure at the end of the day, but his daughters very much aren't. They're the real monsters of the story, because they chose to be.

Yuval Roth

Oof, guessing from the bride stuff of the blood moon ritual that they weren't just daughters, if he was anything like what they grew to be, I pity them.

Cerbero300

no no no no . You can't do this to me. You're cruel. The more I consume this sweet Nectar, the thirstier I am. (*●*)

Mr. Nut

Oof

Void Herald

The tale was heavily inspired by the hero twins indeed ;) I confirm that the Nightlords are the actual blood daughters of the First Emperor though.

Matthew Escobar

Setting aside that tortuous cliff hanger, the lore is getting juicier. Was the first emperor and his brother the mayan hero twins? If so which one was the emperor hunahpu or xabalanque? And what happened to the other brother? And when are we going to meet the brother? Were the nightlords originally fan girls obsessed with one of the twins harem style? So many new questions to be answered void you sneaky devil.

Yuval Roth

Nice guess with it being a veil, I sometimes forget that the nightlords likely have most of his basic tricks like veil and the doll.

Void Herald

Corrected, thanks :)

Nicholas

As for the chapter conclusion if there's a betrayal Lahun is the most suspect since she has the most to gain and the least to lose. However, there's also a chance that this is a veil made by Iztacoatl to get him to confess out of panic so that she can save face.

Nicholas

"By the time I removed my stumps from her corpse, I had grown new hands and she breathed [his] last." I think you meant "her last."

Yuval Roth

I really hope it is just the nightlords pretending someone rat him out to make him confess, there is also the question of what are the requirements for binding someone for them, do they need to know the totem awakened? I assume so, otherwise he would already be bound, curious what the Jaguar woman would do this time, personal guess is either having one of the consorts raped, or if that impossible, torture or cripple them, maybe destroy the amazon's city, they kind of sharply limited the vectors they can use to truly hurt him specifically to torturing his consorts in some way, anything else he probably wouldn't care about, I guess they can make him commit atrocities, like eating torturing or raping children, but he would probably just be pissed rather than hurt.

Federico Bellavista

Dunno. The Skinwalker betraying Iztac so easily after a whole chapter dedicated solely to her recruitment would feel like a waste... Besides, doesn't she have a curse implanted in her soul that would kill her if she attempted to sell him out? Nenetl is off the table. I refuse to believe such slander... but Etzli would be heartbreaking too. Unless it's all a ploy she envisioned behind his back in order to throw off the Nightlords, but I feel like that would be wishful thinking. But do not let this meaningless theorycrafting distract us from the cruelest Nightlord of them all: Void. He crafted such a torturous cliffhanger, he's a mastermind when it comes to evil and deceit.

Yuval Roth

True, maybe they offered her something for betrayal and she was convinced they weren't lying, like turning her into a vampire (she doesn't know only emperor children can do it).

Void Herald

Thanks. I'm a vampire too, except I feed on character suffering ;)

MasterofNova

I can't see Nenetl as an option simply because she's too smitten with him and has the blind loyalty thing going for her. Eztli and skin walker are good options tho. Also low-key feel like Lahun is an option considering her ambitious nature and newness to his crew.

Yuval Roth

I personally have three suspects Etzeli, Nentel and the skinwalker, with higher suspicion towards Etzeli, with the ritual to get new consort warping her so much that she betrayed him, but that may be red hairing, curious how much of his power he will keep after they bound him.

Federico Bellavista

I bet. You can be cruel and twisted, you know that? That's why I love your works so much!

Void Herald

It'll be agony for Iztac too ;)

Federico Bellavista

... Betrayal with the face of a friend. The wait for the next chapter will be agony.
