Blood & Fur Chapter 70: Drowned in Darkness

BlaueFeder

always. Here for it.

BlaueFeder

they are definitely related. After all, Necahaual said he looks like his father, so thats 100% him imo. My guess was that Nenetl is his twin and maybe his mother used magic to obscure her or sth.

BlaueFeder

The orgy arc was kinda short tbh. My depraved self hungers for more smutty sustenance. The twin reveal/confirmation is however a welcome surprise to be sure. HEHEHEHE

Colin Love

Well for such a dark start the connotations of the theory behind the vampiric curse and the moon and sun aspects past and present sure make for darker speculation. Roles have power as has been amply demonstrated the nightlords are good at bending reality to their will for twisted ends. Not that I’m complaining it’s very well done and there’s just enough hope/light balanced that I’m not left walking away feeling despair. That said I like reading works that don’t feel preordained and no or few characters are safe/protected. (If not in totality, not trying to warp my viewpoint accidentally). I don’t feel a happy ending is anyway inevitable and what it would look like is a range of possibilities. That said there’s enough momentum towards the light/good aspects that I don’t feel the author is a sadist. Like I’m not going flip to the last page and read jokes on you everyone is turned/dead and the dark god reborn stands unchallenged or something. If anything the parental argument in the underworld if bleak could be one possible happy ending if not a desirable one. Who knows what the end will bring as time barrels on towards more pivotal events and the final countdown.

Yuval Roth

Possible she was taken by the nightlord as a baby, his father might have not brought it up to not hurt him, his dad also knew his mom was a witch and said nothing about that.

Dylan Alexander

More likely mothers side.

Matthew Flowers

Can someone link the chapter with Ictahca’s backstory? The math isn’t really checking out for Nenetl to be his sibling. I get why people assume that with the references to a brother moon and sun. Wouldn’t Itzili recall if his wife got pregnant again? Keeping Iztac’s sibling a secret would be uncharacteristic of him. Same as his mother having an affair or getting raped when she was a fully fledged sorcerer. I think they are likely cousins however, connected on the father’s side.

Yuval Roth

Her being raped seems unlikely, considering that Nentel is his age or younger, and before she even met his father she was already a witch for years, capable of even transforming, even if someone stronger than her cornered her, in most cases she can probably fly.

Yuval Roth

I guess the flower girl did use to love him, before she kind of broke, she seems like someone who would love her family, in a way, she is kind of the saddest nightlord, the others look like pure evil, but in her it feels like she used to be good, she just steadily gone crazy until it was warped.

Runaway_Cactuar

Lol can we really call it an "orgy arc" if the main headliner of the arc is family trauma in 2 separate families?

Cerbero300

oops I was wrong

Jay

I also don’t think she was raped because In a previous chapter when they were doing sedir iztac had the vision of his parents doing it and in the background he says he hears crying I think nentel is his full blooded sibling and before his mother left she got pregnant again and that vision he had was nenetel conception

Cerbero300

You also have your point of view and I respect that. But I have known people who force the author to change events or something about the characters, and not because said event goes against what the character represents but because they did not like it at all. and we have to keep in mind that those events, thoughts or actions that the protagonists take are the ones that in my opinion make a story more interesting, like the religious fans of Warhamer 40k. (I'm not saying that your point is wrong bro since it is a serious topic, I just wanted to tell you that you enjoy reading without thinking about it so much)

Dylan Alexander

I can definitely see your point and even concede to you on it, I just guess I will have to try to look beyond so to speak and not get the ich every time they potentially couple.

Cerbero300

I am immune. I only have brothers. and even if he had sisters, I don't see the problem, you have to know that this is fiction, in Game of Thrones incest was very present and that didn't ruin the story. (Not because you read it in a story should you put it into practice, for example I :I like bloody and violent stories, and I consider myself a calm person who will not explode at the slightest provocation.

Kris Bruns

Interesting idea, but I don't think there's enough evidence to support it. For instance, I would think that Iztac seeing the sedir vision from his father's point of view would suggest that Iztac and Itzilli are biological father and son. Because if they weren't related it would make more sense to see it from his mother's point of view.

Void Herald

I doubt I will ever give an 'objective' full account of this past history; you will get different perspectives on past events, but like Iztac, you'll have to piece things together from biased accounts ;)

Carlos Torres

So did we get a biased edited account of what happened 600 years ago? Is this like a more messed up Lot from Genesis scenario?

Dylan Alexander

But like, it’s fucking wrong, morally and biologically. Like how the fuck am I supposed to root for the main character if he knowingly keeps fucking his own sister. Unless the point of this is that I’m not and in the end he becomes the villain.

Nicholas

I'm guessing the reason Ichtaca doesn't want to sleep with another man and the reason she doesn't tell Iztac her suspicions of incest are one in the same. Most likely, she was raped before she met Itzili. I think the fact that Iztac's and Nenetl's sedir vision involved him copulating with his mother through his father alongside the White Snake's amusement practically seals the deal.

Void Herald

i confirm the First Emperor indeed genuinely loved his daughters, in his own way, but that the feeling wasn't mutual ;) the four Nightlords are the real monsters of the story.

Cerbero300

and something I forgot to add because of the rush. I had thought about the way they managed to betray their father by exploiting the feelings he had for them, but I didn't believe it would be true, if he loved them and they weren't daughters that he only had because of his lust . (On the other hand, what the Sapa empire will bring will be more interesting, being the counterpart of the first emperor. Chaos against order, lus vs darkness, good against evil or something like that, it may even be the opposite or something similar to Warhamer 40k .

GloryHound

Oh god Nenetel is his sister or something isn’t she. His half sister? Or cousin? Probably half sister.

Yuval Roth

He already fell in love with her, and he already did a lot of fucked up stuff, and like I said, it isn't necessarily true that he is allowed to not sleep with her, considering the implications of abominations born on unholy union, and the fact Jaguar woman picked her while knowing she is his sister, and with the snake saying she is happy (I didn't know she could be happy), I think she had some purpose in it, maybe like kin slaying, incest between Nahualli produce something magical (and monsterous), so I suspect that if he avoided sleeping with her for too long, he will get a talk.

Yuval Roth

I kind of suspect he would figure it out if he put some serious thought into it, from the top of my head, four different hints, the prophecy, the seider visions, the snake and his mother, the fact he didn't connect the dots yet when he would probably normally is kind of showing how much the thought wasn't even entertained in the loosest sense, he probably didn't even consider he might have other family.

Jay

we shoulda seen the hints when they seider and iztac started receiving visions of his parents doin it shoulda raised alarm bells…damn my boy can’t have a single healthy relationship welp Ingrid you’re the new fave

Flufflez

They may have just used fleshcrafting, but I wonder if the Nightlords are not Nahualli, but are instead Mometzcopinques. Iztac plans to create 4 Mometzcopinques to reduce the strain on himself, and we know the play tends to repeat itself, fueling my suspicions. Having to borrow power may have contributed to the personalities and ambitions of Iztac's captors.

Cerbero300

I can't wait to see iztac discover that nenetl is his sister. I guess the one who drops the bomb will be the snake and the one who receives the shock wave will be Mama Owl. I want to see that drama unfold. (hahahaha, I look like my mother watching her Turkish novels)

George R

Awesome chapter

Dylan Alexander

Still, you don’t have to keep sleeping with her, that’s fucked up not to mention wrong.

Yuval Roth

I am not sure he is allowed not to, but don't forget that the revulsion he might feel is probably mitigated by the fact he didn't even suspect he had a sister until one of the women he loved turned out to be one, pretty different from growing up with one.

Dylan Alexander

Well it would be fucked if he kept sleeping with her for sure.

Void Herald

It's more that Iztac himself is a sorcerous prodigy who keenly understands the underlying rules of magic (namely, that sacrifice, trades, and the image of power are what matter most); it was mentioned that even his Mother's potential pales before his own, because unlike her, he's very willing to sacrifice himself or use his image to gain tangible gain. The likes of the Nightlords are fond of offering others for power, but true power requires personal sacrifices.

Yuval Roth

Nah, I think he would be fine, he didn't even know he had a sister, maybe it would change if he knew before he slept with her, but by now he would probably just feel awkward about how she would react.

Yuval Roth

Is the magic we see Itzac learn simplified for us, because some of the spells he did like the gaze seem like stuff you can learn simply by playing around, or did it work because someone taught him or something else.

miraca

it's going to be another incest thing, right?

Yuval Roth

But their children become part of the harem, so can't the nightlords wait until they have nahualli emperor, have him breed a bunch and than tell the next one to breed those daughters and so on, until like half the harem is Nahualli, Itzac himself feared giving them consistent access to narhuali children like an update or two ago, which is odd considering they already had such emperors, speaking of it, it was already mentioned the nightlords tend to kidnap Nahualli women for such purposes, so are those just hanging around the harem and Itzac didn't speak to any yet?

Void Herald

Blood & Fur is very much a 'soft' magic system; other systems with hard rules treat it like a science while in this world, you can do everything 'right' and still be wrong because of twists and turns ;)

Void Herald

I mean, look at Chindi and Ichtaca; both were Nahualli that spread a great deal of suffering and they aren't the only ones, so tales like this survive. For inheritance, I assume you meant the emperor selection? There are cosmic/astrological factors in place when selecting the emperor, so the Nightlords don't really 'choose' as much as they 'find' the candidate. The blood refinement is to create new Nightkin, not select emperors.

Carlos Torres

You know, in the grand scheme of things, the soon to be messed up reveal that Nentel is most likely his sister is just going to be a minor thing placed in the "Fucked up Things I do as Emperor" pile. Unless Iztac desides to pull a Jon Snow.

Stultus

I like this kind of magical system - a magic system focused on the underlying significance of things, and how invoking such significance is in itself, a kind of power. A big issue I've found with video game magic and table top magic system is that they need strictly defined rules and systems, and that just doesn't often mesh well with this kind of "characterisation" for magic systems. It's great to be able to explore the magic alongside Iztac, and see how it may be used.

Stultus

Must be hard for Ichtaca to lecture Iztac on moral wrongs. "Iztac, do not have sex with your sister" "Aren't you feared and hated by the entire city of the dead for kidnapping the souls of the dead?" "..."

Yuval Roth

Speaking of totems, how did the discrimination survived with multiple emperors having totems? Did the empire hide it after said emperors died? Also, how does such inheritance work, because I would think like half of the harem would have those by now, if just being child of one was enough, I would think the massive emperor farm would have gotten a lot of such blood long ago.

Yuval Roth

Oh, they don't look like they have totems, guessing they used their flesh crafting.

Void Herald

Well, I've implied that Iztac has developed heavy pyromaniac tendencies (his first response to Xibalba's trials is to burn things down and his more... psychotic episodes were linked to events like Smoke Mountain). The fact he's not too bothered about the tar things is another example.

MasterofNova

Honestly think this was my favorite chap so far, loved the lore and character on the display. However, I'm kinda confused about Iztac's claims about the physical pain he suffers not concerning him. Sure he could have already been through worse but that doesn't mean he's gained instant mental immunity to lesser forms of physical trauma. That type of pain resistance is built over a long period of time, not less than half a year no matter what brodie has been through. And honestly I'm not sure anything he's actually been through would be worse than being burnt alive when it comes to the pain scale. Kinda holding on hope that it's a side effect of the divine embers cause he's mentioned the whole "I've been through worse in Xibalba" a few times before and I just rolled with it but dismissing being burned alive is a bit much to me.

Yuval Roth

How do they look like, I vaguely remember mentions the Jaguar woman had red hair, but it seems they are all like him, so did they change their appearance?

Yuval Roth

Yes, this almost confirm that Nentel his sister, his mother is probably feeling really really awkward.

Void Herald

The Nightlords are full blood sisters. Their mother will be mentioned, but she's very minor in the grand scheme of things; their father was the one with godhood and magic.

Void Herald

You're welcome.

mhaj58

Are the night lords full blooded sisters or half sisters. Does their mother have any part to play in the story?

miraca

Thanks for the chapter
