BlaueFeder

mild dislike at best.

BlaueFeder

Doesn't Iztac realize this is fiction and just enjoy the ride? HEHE

locky

If you felt his reaction is similar to that of Sigrun's death I can understand your perspective. Personally his reaction felt more like an intrusive thought he can't not think about, rather than the soul crushing helplessness and permanent change of values caused by Sigrun's. I the final thing I would say in defense of his reaction, is that there are real people in the comments who think this is a too far on the part of the author(I don't think it is btw) so Iztac's reaction is definitely realistic(albeit in character is still arguable). Personally while it is not even close to the top 10 worst things that have happened/beend done by Iztac. Nenetl was the only relationship he seemed to have that was not transactional or corrupted by the nightlords, so losing it has a disproportionate impact. It may also be me having sisters giving me the opposite bias to you :)

Yuval Roth

That's nice, every nightlord being their own brand of monster really helps with making them not bland together, they each elicit a different variety of hate.

Yuval Roth

Iztac is a princess who controls animals.

Runaway_Cactuar

Eh, not a fan of his reaction. Yes, it's fucked up 6 ways to Sunday. But the man also genocided his home village just for a shot at saving his mom. And it's not like they knew and got into it- the whole thing was clearly a sick setup from the very beginning.

MasterofNova

I get what your saying and if the examples you used matched up with the scenario I would agree. (Although comparing his suicide to being burnt alive seems like a stretch, scale matters) However, Iztac was not betrayed by Nenetl or really himself. He was simply tricked by the Night Lords, which I think is just a foundational aspect of his relationship with them to simply expect at this point. In a way the fact that they have done this is unsurprising by virtue of how surprising it is. Also I don't think the pseudo-incest is similar in severity to the actual incest, all I said is that it should have at least fortified him for such a revelation since he has already crossed such taboo boundaries. Finally the whole point of my POV in regards to this is just the severity of Iztac's reaction. Maybe it's the only child in me talking but incest (between siblings) has never been particularly vile to me outside of the social taboo of it. And I think that makes sense since I lack a proper siblings bond to base those feelings of proper revulsion from. So when I see a guy that has been through what Iztac has been through and has effectively grown up as an only child, I just don't understand how this revelation could damage him in such a way when various other traumas have not. I'm not saying he should be immune by it but it would have been far more in character from what we've seen from the guy if he was than the reaction we got from him. The only other time I remember him reacting so dejectedly like this is Sigrun's death and I don't think I need to state how the two situations differ in severity.

Nicholas

At this point we're just arguing over semantics when my original point was that incest is so repulsive for a Nahualli that even someone as excessive as the first emperor refused to partake (albeit in a loose manner). As for whether it was love alone (more like obsession really) or just fear that kept him from taking that last step is irrelevant. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle of these two feelings, likely being a combination of both rather than just one or the other.

Yuval Roth

That a curious possiblity, if it sticks to the body, it may be possible to trick the nightlord into leaving theirs, than again, even if it does work, entirely possible their mindless bodies will rampage, which depends on their survival instincts (ability to avoid to the sun), may be good or bad.

Void Herald

The issue is that he doesn't entirely know the nature of the curse, hence why he's looking for the codexes. Even the plan to give Eztli a new body is based on the assumption that the vampiric curse will stick to her body and not the soul, which may or may not be wrong ;)

Void Herald

Sugey is going to be a very different kind of beast than Iztacoatl for sure; but I'm pretty sure you guys will come to hate her too ;)

locky

Both can be true at the same time. Thanks to their experiences soldier may be able to deal with family being kidnapped(have experienced stress and love ones in danger before) or being tortured(have had to deal with pain/miserable conditions before). However be completely unable to deal with their wife cheating on them(cause they have never been betrayed before), despite it arguably being a less serious problem. In Iztac case I can believe he can cope with being burnt alive cause he has died before, he can murder his village because he has killed before, he can deal with a skinwalker cause he knows nightlords etc. However his relationships with his consorts once properly formed has been mostly positive and when he commits crimes normally they are done with a purpose. Also why you may view his other pseudo-incest relationships with Eztli/consorts mother as being similar in severity(i don't for the record but that is subjective), Iztac has never viewed these relationships as incest. I guess my problem with your line of reasoning is it can be used for basically anything Iztac does/experiences from here on eg. why should personally murdering an orphanage bother him he has killed kids before . Which while logically consistent is just not how people work.

Matthew Flowers

The torture/trauma isn’t simply due to the act itself but due to how it actively perverts their relationship. Iztac has the luxury of blaming his circumstances for how he fetishized his adoptive family, Eztli was his only childhood friend and Nahacual never treated him as a son. He has no one to blame for Nenetl, it was completely unforced. His affection for her wasn’t compelled by external factors in any capacity, and worse yet it still persists just as a tainted facsimile of what was. This wasn’t some trial or test where he shows his inner darkness for some greater good, this was a vial of poison he drank in a factory of horrors because he was thirsty.

Matthew Flowers

I don’t think it would change much, but knowing someone else who went through similar traumas might help him stabilize his mental. You can talk to them about it and really listen without feeling ashamed or judged, just understood. Not a solution exactly but could be a step in the right direction, as it stands he will never tell the most empathetic people he is closest to. Its kind of torture within itself.

Yuval Roth

Kind of curious, what the mechanics to making a spell on par with the ones taught by the lords of terror or the doll, say Iztac want to make anti vampire spell that directly attack the curse, where would he start? Does he lack the knowledge to even begin trying to make new spells from scratch (aka, without building on existing ones) yet?

Yuval Roth

I don't think the emperor is a good example, because his daughters were literally his connection to humanity, he genuinely loved them and they were an anchor to him, sleeping with them would have likely marked a downward spiral in which he lost every semblance of control he still had left.

Yuval Roth

What are they going to say? And it doesn't seem like a common thing, if he even guessed at it, the clues would have probably fell in place by themselves, but it was so out there for him that the snake just confused him when she mentioned it until she clarified.

MasterofNova

I would love to agree with you in regards to that trauma thing if we were actually shown that in the story. Instead him experiencing various traumas throughout his ordeals in the waking and sleeping worlds have been used as justification for him not being emotionally/ mentally affected by various traumas he goes through afterwards with the walking off being burnt alive just being the latest example. In fact I think that the horrors he experienced during the trials would act as more than sufficient justification for him to be unfazed by it just due to the psychological fuckery it put him through. I also listed him already crossing various sexual boundaries by sleeping with the mothers of two of his consorts, often times in the same bed. The fact that he was partially raised by one of those women and actually grew up with the other is why I mention it being a pseudo-incest relationship, which if nothing else feels like something that would fortify his mind to this new revelation. I do think ur interpretation of Eztli and Iztac's relationship is more accurate, however it can also easily be viewed as a step-sibling/adopted sibling relationship as well.

locky

Being exposed to one form of trauma does not magically make you resistant to other forms( for instance having killed people will not necessarily make you more resistant to torture or being raped and vice versa). In this case Itzac has had one of the only purely wholesome relationships he had, corrupted into a gross science experiment occrustated by the night lords. I don't see how doing/witnessing other atrocities would help with that. Also I don't think his relationship with Eztli is comparable. Eztli is more of a childhood friend than sibling, with them being raised separately until his dad died and even after being taken in he was never part of the family. I might be wrong but I got the impression that Eztli and him were always into each other but Itzac was not considered a suitable candidate for Eztli so they did not pursue it.

Nicholas

Also given that Nahuali are punished for killing their kin by turning into skin walkers means that sleeping with their kin will likely create an equally (if not more) abhorrent monster. A forbidden taboo so depraved that even the First Emperor, a being with no impulse control that drank rivers of blood and modeled his wives after his daughters using bone crafting, refused to cross that line.

Nicholas

Sleeping with Sigurn, a virtual stranger that Iztac knew very little about and had no blood ties with, is not remotely comparable to sleeping with his birth mother and sister. Moreover, Iztac absolutely values his blood family and has admitted that he would (and did) commit heinous actions to ensure their safety. Not to mention Iztac had come to view Nenetl to be exactly like his (their) father and would understandably be very disgusted at the notion of sleeping with someone directly related to him.

George R

I’m excited for the flower war arc and the story but Nentel and Iztac made me really sad

Yuval Roth

Kind of curious if she will even torment Iztac specifically, so far she didn't seem like she cared much of anything about him, I wouldn't be surprised if with her he would be mostly a witness of what she does to others.

Matthew Flowers

Well surprised he didn’t consult the skulls about this. They probably got tricked into sleeping with their siblings too

MasterofNova

The First Emperor comparison seems disingenuous as incest between parent and child vs siblings is at least an order of magnitude different in depth of depravity. Also outside of his father and arguably Eztli, Iztac doesn't have a very strong connection to the idea of a family. At least not a healthy one. Considering he fucked both his adoptive mother and sister, I don't think he should have that severe of a boundary towards harming family as if they didn't count then only his father could truly as there is an actual healthy bond there unlike with every other family member.

MasterofNova

Being grossed out by it is natural, having it have such a substantial effect on him tho just doesn't make sense to me. Especially when we literally just see him walk off being burnt alive like it was nothing. After having the mother's of two of his consorts, often times in the same bed as them, I just find the extremity of the response disingenuous when compared to everything else.

Doctor Zero

We can't kill Sugey - I don't hate her yet.

Cerbero300

Thanks for the chapter. I'm waiting for the flower war. I'm worried that iztac will distance himself from nenetl by hurting her, which will end up causing a gap for the snake to exploit.

Cerbero300

This is not disney

Yuval Roth

Hope it would be fine, mostly feeling bad for Nentel, just as things were starting to go well for her, also, Itzac is lucky he successfully saved his mom, I heavily suspect the nightlords would have made him sleep with her if they did capture her, I doubt they would have "wasted" her on an hunt in which she might die.

Yuval Roth

Kind of implied the kids would also be literal abominations, rather than metaphorical ones (because really, incest isn't that dangerous in the first generation).

Dylan Alexander

So is Sugey going to die before the white snake? Sure seems like it.

Yuval Roth

Seems unlikely she is half sister, his mother doesn't seem the type to cheat, she loves his father and is incredibly untrusting, when she did want to do seider, she immediately tried to involve his dad, and like he said, he literally saw it in a vision, the story the snake sold also kind of fit her character, she tried to keep her child, but eventually she figured out she can't and did the pragmatic thing, leaving Nentel behind and hoping she will have good life, at least she didn't kill her and kept her soul, which thinking about it, may have been the kinder fate.

Yuval Roth

I don't think she is messing with him, there were hints for a while, it could be a lie, but considering all the clues, it almost definitely isn't.

Flufflez

Has Iztac done a ton of messed up stuff? Yes. However, I think incest probably has the biggest ick factor. Even if it's not his most morally reprehensible act, I can see why he is so grossed out.

MasterofNova

Idk, maybe it's because I'm an only child and have consumed so much media but I just don't feel like this is as big of a deal as Iztac is making it. Dude has experienced so much fuckery both mentally and physically and has quite literally faced the existential terrors of his world. Yet fucking his sister makes his mind shatter for some reason? I just don't buy it for his character. He already accepted being a demon, this should've just added to that self-image instead of damaging him like it has. Also didn't he already fuck his metaphorical sister in the form of Eztli? I forget how old he was when he joined her household but I'm pretty sure they lived together most of their life. I always considered their pairing to effectively be a pseudo-incest match akin to a step-sibling relationship and I thought he acknowledged it as such in the earliest chaps. Idk his reaction to the revelation just leaves a poor taste in my mouth but eh.

Sweet Home Aztec Land

Diego Urbina

Damn. Still, I suppose Iztac is going to have a long awkward talk with his mother. I'm wondering if its true or Iztacoalt's just messing with him.

CentaureHeart

This has been foreshadowed for so long and is in line with all the torture befelling Iztac. The whole point of the Sisters is to try and find new ways to torture him. So no, this is not an asspull.

Nicholas

He did do a lot of horrible things, but it was towards people outside his family. Not to mention incest is a such a big no-no that even the First Emperor refused to participate in it despite the many temptations. There'll undoubtedly be a major consequence for this action later down the line for all parties involved.

Federico Bellavista

I mean, we've had murder, genocide, forced suicide, slavery, torture and a lot of other twisted things... Incest ain't so bad after all. And honestly speaking, it all seems... too convenient. Iztacoatl is known to be a deceiver, and nothing is more insidious than a half-truth. Maybe she is Iztac half-sister (which would be still fucked up, but a bit less than screwing a full sister) or something similar.

Federico Bellavista

I mean, on one side I am truly sorry for Iztac and Nenetl. They deserved some happiness. On the other, it is SICK and I LOVE it. Now, Iztac has fully embraced murder, deception and all manners of crimes and horrors: will he embrace this one too? Or will it be too much? How will their relationship evolve? It is a plot line so exciting and fraught with potential that I can't even begin to imagine it.

0gain

I don't think it is like that. Historically nobles and incest were always a thing.

Sam

This is the first time I’ve hated how you went about things with the story. This incest shit with Nenetl honestly ruins part of the story for me. It seems like you pulled this out of your ass just to make the one true love interest in this story be a disgusting incest shitshow because you wouldn’t know how to write it otherwise. Now we are either gonna get straight up incest scenes for the rest of the story or their relationship is completely ruined. We’ve already had enough incest with Necahaul and Etzili but this just seems like a personal fetish of yours now.

Stultus

It probably stems from not wanting to see Iztac or Nenetl's relationship sour just as it was beginning to bloom - but I still feel that Iztac is overexaggerating the issue. he screwed his sister - but he has also done a whole bunch of fucked up shit like possessing someone and making them commit suicide? I get that culturally killing may be less of an issue than incest but I still personally feel that this is something some good old fashioned honesty and heart to heart talking could solve. Oh well - I will simply cry myself to sleep when the inevitable occurs and one or more of the consorts tearfully sacrifices herself to ensure Iztac's victory against the Nightlords and their asshole dad.

Void Herald

As said in the chapter, according to Iztacoatl, Itzili sired Nenetl only a few days before she had to run away and totems are non-inheritable; the fact Ichtaca's children both showed Nahualli potential is what made the Nightlords interested in her bloodline.

mhaj58

How did Ichtaca hide a pregnancy from Itzili? Nenetl is a wolf totem, did she inherit it from her grandparents or can an owl beget a wolf, cat, or bear? At least one slice of good news is that the white snake won’t be seen again anytime soon.
