Seeing how the necromancer class changed. I’m guessing by the end Simon will change the Overlord class to something like the Emperor class. Still a feared and powerful leader, but not inherently malevolent.

FuriousDee

I wonder if he can already use his crafting perk for that if he is crafting a miasma class

vVip3rzzz

Part of me is now guessing because of all the lore explanations surrounding crest stones and their creation that at some point Simon is going to get a perk related to crafting crest stones and then he’s going to attempt to craft an overlord vassel class. In fact, now I think about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if that perk is given in the much later levels considering Balzam randomly in this reign decided to have an interest in unlocking the crimson thrones secrets. Tryna make himself an offshoot and get more reigns I can only assume

Simon is Level 29. With a few executions of prisoners, it's not impossible to get up in the levels very quickly. With a few weak criminals, he was able to get to Level 8 in mere minutes. It will be far more difficult to explain it when he gets to the level of the elites.

Publius Decius Mus

Cassandra creeps me out. Sure she seems to have a heart of gold, but damn she is spooky.

Myrdin

Weird that no one has commented on Simon’s level. It should be impossible to reach it so quickly. I guess they must suspect that Simon’s had been given the class long before Balzam’s death and trained in secret. Simon could also claim that he has lived a long time in his prophetic dreams and levelled that way. It would fit nicely with Louis’ theory about Simon living in his dreams. He can also talk about his reigns with other people, like we saw with him talking about Vouivre or Casval, if he claims they were dreams.

Antony444

In theory, I suppose there is nothing to stop Simon to use Devour Crestone II on an exp-boosting Perk (again), be it the one of the Freelancer class or another...that said, given the 'customisation' offered by the Overlord class, it would be kind of waste in term of flexibility. Plus one can't forget that you can't remove the Perk once it is done, it is a choice that can't be changed in future reigns. And experience by itself offers only the possibility of more strength, not new skills. Given all of that, my humble opinion is that one exp-boosting Perk is enough. Better use the second set of Devour Crestone on something like a Templar Perk, which gives an enormous boost against Dark creatures, or something else entirely.

MaliMi

Is it possible for Simon to use the Devour Crestone II on the same exp boosting perk and stack them?

FuriousDee

When he started learning magic he was told everyone can learn magic it is just much harder and takes longer to learn without a class helping.

Antony444

Or Simon uses a reign to stay at Frightwall and discover how the Elves are achieving the feat...the problem is that it arrives incredibly soon during the story, so if you don't have a level high enough to survive the blast, the risk is high that it's a reign effectively 'wasted', since you will die in mere weeks without achieving anything of note. As noted this reign, they discovered Malphas was/is a traitor, but they didn't discover how he is guiding the strike of the Elven Archmages.

FuriousDee

I wonder if they were both exploded by the same artifact

Jasus

Malphas is not willingly betraying them, isnt he? To bring your daughter to a suizide mission is rather far fetched.

Myrdin

If elves created the crestones, it means that they don’t need them to learn magic (same for demons). Creatures in the forest also seem to level up not alongside crestones, but rather alongside concentration of miasma. That probably works the same for other creatures with mana (like elves). So they don’t necessary need crestones to ‘level up’ (not enough crestones out there). Is it the same for humans? Simon seems to be very talented in magic, so could he learn it on his own, without having relevant class perks working as a crutch? Is he still bound by the concentration of miasma and his levels? Cassandra is rather cool, but wanting to merge with the demon to gain power and knowledge is delusion. Her will would have been overwritten, maybe not totally, but definitely mostly. Finally, Agnes’ backstory will be revealed. She must be incredibly important for the elves to do nothing, just not to hurt her.

Myrdin

Hell no. I want my daily dose of dopamine to continue :)

Myrdin

That would not explain how Elios knew how many reigns Simon is going to get. No, I believe it is connected to the vicinity of the comet. I agree though, that Balzam on purpose prevented Simon from getting any crestone in order to help him adapt to the Overlord. We can already see how Simon is changing throughout the reigns and is becoming more aligned to the class as he levels up. If he had had any class before, he would have already been aligned to another class, and it probably would have been more difficult for him to align to the Overlord. We can also see that in the way that Simon was treated. He was unfairly neglected, and especially Thalas hates him seemingly no reason. That made Simon more spiteful and dark aligned, perfect for the Overlord.

Antony444

Well, I guess another round of civil war is about to begin. Circumstances are a bit different than during the eighth reign, but unfortunately, the basics remain the same. Louis was off in Telluria, Euphemia remained in Castle Frightwall...and the two sides hate each other, so they have plenty of reasons to believe the other party is responsible. Curse it...that means the effort to kill Vouivre is most likely to get abandoned, as Louis and Dassein are forced to focus on the Imperial Civil War. The goods news is that Caswal and most of her troops are already dead, which should slow down her rise for some time... More worrying is the revelation Malphas and his daughter are true believers. Everything seems to point out now they were spies, introduced a long time into the Empire to climb the steps of Imperial hierarchy until they could fulfil their roles...not good. Not good at all. And while their connections to Illusea and other enemies of the Empire is undeniable, the motivations, secrets and plenty of other things are yet to be discovered...with Frightwall gone, I think plenty of it will have to wait for another reign.

CentaureHeart

Damn, guess the castle will continue exploding as long as Simon needs Belzemine near him.

So, after some thinking, I think Balzam helped Simon (on purpose) by preventing him from gaining any levels in the last reign. I would be willing to bet that the number of reigns is tied to 100 reigns minus the overlords previous levels. (Or power level). Mardok was a powerful apex demon, so only had a handful of reigns. Likewise, the dragon is a freaking (non-average-voidy) dragon, which seems less powerful than a demon, but still apex. Hence, more reigns. And I would bet, that Balzam was NOT the killer of the dragon in the last reign (as he seems to know he needed to figure out who killed him the most overall) and he was actually only level 30ish when the dragon was brought down. Him as the overlord could easily (eventually) spread the false narrative that he did kill the dragon. And he is more cruel because he A) sucks and B) knows that he really didn’t do anything to deserve the class in this timeline.

I will never not love how Void is like, “Guys, I’m so sorry. I HAVE to slow down the chapters, please understand 🥺 👉🏻👈🏻” then releases daily banger after banger after banger. Like, even Zogarth takes weekends off Voidy. You can rest. Promise

I'd pay a fortune to play that game, with so many different endings and wives to collect!!! And achievements!!!! Like, for example, turning the Overlord class into a "good" class, "curing" Belzemine, killing the Zodiac Demons in less than a year, and conquering the world in less than 10 years XD

alejandrox

Thanks for the chapter XD. interesting....

Great chapter

I keep thinking about what a great game this would make. Maybe a visual novel with a lot of choices that change what's going, and the more you grow and discover, the more options you have. An RPG system too, with skill checks, but your stat gains are kept between loops, so at the start you can't do anything, but as the game goes it gets easier and easier to pass checks
