The dungeon creation perk is potentially totally busted. Imagine if Simon could in the future claim the whole country as his dungeon. Really love the current Reign. I hope to see a Simon Archmage reign in the future. Magic is still a big unexplored space, and with huge potential.

Poor Agnes... maybe next time Simon can leave a message to her so she knows where to find him? Also, I personally don't mind MCs with a conscience; it's just more difficult to execute than a ruthless MC. The golden rule is to keep characters coherent. You can't have your main character have a conscience and violate his own rules for weak reasons like "they're not my people so I don't care". If they have rules and red lines, those red lines should be clear and almost always unchallengeable. It's easier to write a ruthless MC because they have more freedom of action, which makes for interesting chapters and reversals. Paladins are more difficult to write because they require subtile challenges to be interesting (not gary sues). I like this chapter because Simon's surprised me. Simon is no paladin, but he's no villain either. He's made a rational choice by observing the war, rather than saving Anna; he really needs the time to grow stronger. Still, it does STRONGLY indicates that he's quite ruthless even to people he loves. I would have expected him to try *something* to save Anna. What he needs is time and witnessing each faction's strength; saving Anna might not have been incompatible with those aims. It's hypocritical, but to be fair that's how people work (trolley dilemma). He wouldn't personally kill his loved ones because that's staining his own hands; but indirect kills are *okay-ish*.
