I’m wondering if everyone is wrong, and the Prince of Spiders has the Necromancer Class instead of the Rogue!
Puri Iresan
How? They dont know who it was. Nothing that ties this to him aside from remdia herself. The cobweb will be staying quiet and trying to gather intel before They’re do anything. By that Point the reign will be over

Glad to Simon more consistently holding own in Combat. It would be... disappointing if a bunch of criminals killed him before Simon even finds out the Queen's 3rd task.
Myrdin
Prince of Spiders may be multiple people, or rather one person with multiple clones. We saw in this chapter a Shadow Clone technique from the ninja, so the Rogue definitely has it as well, but might even have something better. Renal is strong enough to answer directly to the Prince of Spiders and yet he says that they will kill him, not that he/she will kill him This Ninja crestone is something that perfectly covers Simon’s weak points in mobility.

More questions than answers with the chapter

It's times like these (when the Cobweb is being extra dangerous/annoying) that makes me wish we did the Overlord of Crime reign.
Myrdin
Renal put up a very good fight there. I really like how Simon fought mainly with magic. That feels more like his style than melee combat. Is Renal’s name taken from Renal Bloodscalp from Baldurs Gate 2?

Great chapter

I mean… the Academy, Berwick Isles, and Stone Muse were all intended to help with leveling. Jester King as well to a certain extent, and ironically this Reign *wasn’t* meant for levels.
Myrdin
He must have been lower level than Simon or his soul gem wouldn’t have crystallised

Loved the showing of how strong Simon has grown and how comfortable he is in his class skills. He didn’t even get injured or die. Normally in fights time pauses when people talk but here it seems that 2 minutes passed between the ninja and Simon saying a few words to each other.

So, Simon now knows he has NO IDEA where the spider is keeping the stone. Since every door is a teleport, it could be on another continent. And he didn't die for once! Good job mate! Now focus on getting some friggin progress. It's exhausting him not realizing how much every new ability makes his life easier, and yet he insists on playing detective and obtaining piecemeal progress. Just to lament that if he had the abilities he has now his previous reigns would have gone SO MUCH BETTER. I want to root for him, but him being so bullheaded and not even considering spending a few reigns to gain levels kinda makes me want to slap him unconscious

Okay so the lack of powerful protectors at every operation's place is compensated by teleportation network. Too bad there's no message clarifying the killed opponent's levels, I wonder what level the ninja was, by how he thought with a vassal class should be around 60. Also I'm not sure f it was mentioned how long buffs last. He could've used a prayer with Haste before entering arena while still without a class form. Of course if it only last a minute it wouldn't be very useful but if ten minutes or longer then totally a valid option.

Simon using 'Countdown' to put a marker above the ninja's head so he could see them was super cool. I love Simon's moments of creativity like that when they appear. It's nice to see the parts of Simon that kept Balzam on his toes/made sure Balzam could never see him coming appear in the true timeline.
Alibhai
That's a cool class. Nice dynamic fight. Did Simon grab its crestone? Even if it's not a noble class there is no reason not to at least check out its perks. And he can interrogate the dead ninja about its higher-level perks.
Alibhai
My best guess is that they don't. That pit contains all the leftover "raw material".
Alibhai
He does have access to haste, with his prayers. Which he can't use while he is in his class outfit. I do remember him obtaining chronomancy spells during the church reign, but I don't recall what they were.
Antony444
Well, at least Simon got a Level for the Overlord class from it. Because there is going to be consequences for this. No way the Cobweb isn't going to strike back given how much they lost in this operation.
Publius Decius Mus
What on Earth did they need rotting corpses for?

I guess that demonstrates that Cobweb is one of the larger threats in the setting.

Thanks for the chapter. That cobweb is really annoying and dangerous!

Really well done fight, Simon’s weaknesses and strengths are all coming together. Can’t wait for him to be able to cast haste on himself or something else to compensate. There’s no way the overlord has any weaknesses.

I'm disappointed the ninja didn't leave behind a tree trunk when he slammed against the door and disappeared
Hive Tyrant
I love it when Simon pretends to be a demon. Why do a Jester King run when he can do a somehow Mardok returned run!

Additional thoughts: Mage as endgame love interest? I don’t think anyone else in this setting has demonstrated as much of a grasp of the various elements of magic. She figured out Simon was the Overlord as soon as Balzam Magnos’s death became clear, which is frankly kind of ridiculous. She’s a genius. Put her in Lauriane’s facility and give her access to that telescope and I bet she cracks Overlord Vassal stones in a month. Their romance was obviously not meant to be in this arc but holy shit if she ever manages to recover these memories in a time when she’s less politically locked down, I can see it.

Bro be ending the loop now

The timing is off. Five minutes are too much for this fight and the interrogation.

Hmm, the Cobweb is more dangerous than I thought. And I was already overestimating then because they did manage to bond a zodiac. Fun times ahead once Simon dedicated a reign to routing them out.
Dexter Sinister
Feels like the beginning of the end for this arc. I like the idea of Simon palling around with the Mage, but stepping on the Cobweb’s toes this hard has not gone well for Simon in the past. My bet is Cobweb sends some of their actual heavy hitters down to Cocagne to find answers. Hopefully Simon gets to eat the Mage Crestone before shit hits the fan. Next arc HAS to be either Justine’s arc or the Cobweb arc at this point, anything else leaves those big threads flapping in the wind.

I do not know how effective burying the evidence is, as now that there was something fishy the Mage can intervene, and a few rocks will hardly stop her from excavating all the evidence, and likely even finding out something about the entrance to the teleportation network.
