"Something had changed.  That was impossible. Time and events had endlessly repeated nearly a dozen times already in an unalterable cycle, " Hey, this is something ive noticed, but his shock at stuff changing seems to happen too fast. Like, this is the mentality of a timelooper who's lived for centuries over countless lives. This was his 8th wake up. He shouldnt be so...cemented in his expectations yet. I think in total he's got an extra half a year? Again, it just seems like hes acting like hes on his 50th loop. I've noticed it a handful of times, but the only specific time i can remember is his shock when Eole said "yes" to leaving with him. He'd only had that conversation with her once before, it's not like he should expect everything to be set in stone at this point. This kind of goes hand in hand with my repeated whining about how quickly his relationship with Eole developed, this last life (reign 8) was really the first time they genuinely interacted. At least, interacted in any way that'd develop their relationship. But the first or second life he met her, he was throwing himself in front of dragon fire for her, and desperately trying to keep her alive after she betrayed him, and it felt unearned. It sorta seemed like you knew that the character would be important to him after a certain number of loops, and then skipped those loops, if that makes sense. Sorry to keep harping on that one character interaction, it just seems like a fairly big plot and character driving development, and thus should have the foundation to support it.

Erik

All thing considered, that's a pretty good prank.

I have a coupletheories about the increased reigns which seem pretty obvious. 1. The amount of reigns someone is given is correspondingly to how many times they killed the previous overlord. This isn’t immediately obvious because up Balzamn the lack of reigns means there not much of a duplicative effect. For example the dragon overlord didn’t get that many reigns because he simply couldn’t kill Madock as many times. Then Balzamn kills him say a couple more times and the number jumps. Im assuming for the math to work it would have to be a blanket multiplier that doesn’t take into account the previous overlords reigns because otherwise Simon would have like 600. Math like Balzam killed dragon overlord x number of times with the multiplication of reigns x number times equals amount of reigns he gets. This wouldn’t carry over to Simon but he just killed Balzam more(I think at least fifteen times iirc) so it increases. Cons to this theory: quite simply the math doesn’t really math unless it’s some very specific number like 6.25 multiplication rounded up assumedly because dragon overlord had 13. I dont think this one is likely it was just a fun idea in my head. Theory 2. Miasma compounding. Quite simply, the effect of the throne compounds over time. This is why the jump between Madock and the dragon overlord is so low because the effect starts small(leading into theory 3 possibly) and compounds over time, ramping up(towards theory 3) this would explain why the jump between the dragon overlord and Balzam was so substantial, because it was damn near 300 years, but also explain why Simon didn’t get 10x Balzams reigns(besides the fact that void probably doesn’t want to right that much book lmao). By the time it reaches Balzam the miasma has compounded so much that 20 years of time is enough for thirty reigns, but it isn’t as massive of a jump as Balzams reigns because it simply was nearly as much time between overlords as the dragon overlord even with a lower variable(I believe the dragon overlord was around for 300+ years or something close to that) This one seems likely but it’s more of a composite theory of why. God this is a long comment. Theory 3: PRAISE THE BLACK COMET. Not to complicated, back packing off the last theory about the exposure to miasma and also the previously stated facts that the world seems to become more vulnerable or susceptible to greater magics as the comet approaches. I.e the DOOM age. Simon, being naturally the closest to the next age of Doom and the next empowering of Madock freaky soul stone gets a sharp boost to his reigns. More miasma, more power, more reigns, more problems. This one makes the most sense to me as Balzam got a pretty big increase and wasn’t to far off of the next comet in comparison to the other two overlords. I mean Madock got 6 and that’s likely because that’s when the doom just ended. lol nerdy demon can’t game the system, the system instead games him and turns him into a cool chair. Most likely, most probable. Especially with there clearly being some Madock fuckery going on with the comet. Let’s be real, he’s probably trying to resurrect himself using the overlord class itself as a soul gem. Could explain Balzam 5 extra deaths where he just became Madock and then still died somehow. Who knows, I think that’s most likely. NEXT THEORY. Theory 4: POWER SCALING The amount of reigns you get is correspondent with how much you need them. What’s that, your a thousand year old demon? Yeah buddy, take your six reigns and get it going. Oh, your an ancient dragon that could live for a thousand years WITHOUT the class. 13, take it or leave it. Weak in comparison but still pretty decently powerful warrior. 70, because you human and human like wet paper in this world. Simon. You get 100. Best we can do. Try not to get shit stopped by reign 50, okay??? This only makes sense if im correct in my assumption that Balzam is weak as shit in comparison to the dragon overlord and basically got lucky through war of attrition. My next, favourite theory. Theory FIVE: the invisible retcon. Very simple really. Mr void herald make fun pilot. Mr void herald mention cool dragon and demon overlord who also have reigns along with our cool protagonist. He quickly to thinks about this and realises “there’s not plausible way the dragon or the demon lost at full power to begin with and 100 reigns.” He changes this and we never see, making them random numbers that conveniently fit to make it plausible that they only last that long. This is not what I think happened. This is 100% what would’ve happened to me if I was writing this, which is why im not 😂😂😂 Anyway I think 3 the most likely theory

Elios Magnos helped create the throne and knows ALL of its secrets, that's all I'm going to say ;)

A question I have now that we know for a fact the amount of reigns increase through each Overlord. Elios knows this… right? I dont know if im spelling the Lich’s name correctly but he told Simon to come back in ninety reigns which wouldn’t make much sense at all unless 1. The other Overlords have lied about how many reigns they have or 2. He knows exactly how many reigns they have and ALSO knows that it increases. And if he knows it increases, it would appear he also knows the metrics by which it increases considering he basically nailed how many reigns Simon had off the bat. My question is if this was just sort of a throw away line before you decided to solidify the Simon got more reigns then the others because it makes the most sense, or if it’s a bread crumb to the implication that Elios knows why the reigns increase?

FuriousDee

I find it really funny that whenever a member of their family does anything you have to consider that they might have just been being a dick.

Pradian

As much as he wanted nothing more than to retire to the Berwick Islands with Anna, Eole, Belzemine ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Onward to crestone history! With that teleport ability, he can mobilize the generals and firewand to surprise attack any of the party!

MaliMi

I am not complaining. It is just an observation.

MaliMi

Is Simon starting to become a bit callous?

MaliMi

I thought that too, but why would his father have over 70 reigns then? Although he had help, he did kill the dragon overlord.

BlaueFeder

relateable

Publius Decius Mus

Elias knew that Simon will have at least 97 cycles, because he instructed him to "come back in about 90 cycles". So either there is a way to calculate how many cycles one will have as Overlord, or he was being an utter asshole. Might be both. My first guess would have been that the number of cycles is tied to astronomical constellations, and Simon inherited the class in just the perfect moment, but Mardok also crafted the class at the perfect time, yet he still only had six reigns. So maybe it is simply the time passed since the creation of the class. On a completely unrelated note I will start my propaganda campaign as the self-appointed captain of the Frea-ship. Frea is best girl! Chill is justice!

Jasus

Casval delenda est

FuriousDee

I wonder if he has the full hundred because he wasn’t allowed a class before he became the overlord. It might be based off how much power you had before hand.

Pride

Lmao Balzam’s such an unapologetically evil asshole it’s hilarious. Since Balzam also had the ability to craft Traps I wonder who pranked him, maybe Gargauth using the same method?

CentaureHeart

Balzam helping his son get cool titles

alejandrox

Thanks for the chapter. What a "funny" death by acid.... seriously, he should throw away his father's corpse during his next reign, I don't know, throw it down the sewers.

Antony444

Last but important remark: the Tenth Reign is one where the chances of Casval Ashmodai dying are extremely high! Praise the Overlord! And Casval delenda est.

Void Herald

Noble. Everyone on the Imperial High Council has one (Maublanc Commander, Mastemo Cleric, Shabram Dancer, Patriate Merchant) save Belzemine as an office symbol.

Antony444

Quick Question, is Merchant a Noble or a Vassal Class?

Conor lennon

Balzam being such a unapologetic hater lol. He is an amazing villian that even when he is dead he is still affecting things and being a colossal dick constantly lol.

Antony444

Ha! Ha! Ha! Well, at least that answers the question if a demonic throne can be as petty as the Overlord. It is the Crimson Throne, so yes, it definitely can... I suppose the rumours Mardok created the Overlord class to slay the Paladin as one of the main goals is confirmed beyond doubt. You don't create a massive exception to the 'you shall no gain experience for repeating the same deed' if you don't hate the Paladin to the point of madness...

Jasus

Lady Shabram probably knows Simon better than any other person. She has watched over him since he was a kid. Does she have motherly feelings for him? Or is she just scheming?

Void Herald

Riley

Me when I “prank” my son by luring him to his death using his mother’s skull: 🤣🤪💀
