So why doesn't Adam just trunk in the stuff he mines himself, instead of giving it to Toar?

---

This is a good question! Personally, how I try to handle the gamification of skills and learning when skills end up being refined and their purpose winds up being changed is kinda dependent. On a whole, base skills, when sacrificed to form a skill that doesn't necessarily carry the same effects as the previous skill, will be partially retained when lost. Adam won't fully forget his unarmed combat experience, but he may becomes a little slower and take some time to bridge that gap between when he had Unarmed Combat at 10 and when he sacrificed the skill. Thankfully, an Unarmed Combat skill at 10 is not very high. Skills denote the progress one is making in their journey as much as they do compounding passive effects on their efficacy with the skill. The true sacrifice, in reality, comes from combining more rare and refined skills and losing associated passive effects. For example, if Adam were to merge Flame Body with another skill, and produced a non-auric skill before using Flame Body to gain sufficient understanding of how to command his mana, he may no longer have a means to practice with his mana. If he were to combine the skill into a non-flame skill in future, he might lose out on a portion of his heat tolerance. However, Adam could definitely gain a Heat Tolerance skill before moving away from Flame Body. A lot of this is down to physiology and muscle-memory versus the system's guiding hand. Flame Body has allowed Adam to free up his mana and use more of it, as well as taught his body how to use mana to reinforce his bones. A mild-to-moderate aspect of that would remain even if he sold the skill for resources in his [Hoard]. Hopefully this clears some things up!

Hello! Great stuff so far, but if you don't mind I would like to ask you a clarifying question regarding skill merging, Are the effects from the base skills being sacrificed still apply in the combined new skill or are they lost? Let's take [flame body] for example, it's not really a form of Unarmed Combat, it's not a flame Barrier since the barrier is more of an external effect and FB is more internal and it's not really Fortitude because while Fortitude is a passive effect, FB requires mana to function even if just on the instinctual level. This rises the question, if the effects from the base skills are lost how that effects the protagonist, will he forget how to fight hand to hand or simply be worse at it, if his mana bottoms out will he get hurt more seriously without the Fortitude skill than if he still had it at that point? And let's say he sacrifices his mining skill does it means he forgets how to mine propoly? This also raises another interesting concept, will he be able to relearn those base skills sacrificed and if so how those skills will be affected by the fact they need to be relearned?
