Undercover ASSignment Update + Suggestions
🕑 Added 2018-10-19 19:55:18 +0000 UTC Continued working on the extra scene since people really liked it. I worked on her head motion and lips for the majority of the scene. In total, the scene is about 40 seconds long and I've got 30 seconds of it nearly complete. It's almost good enough to be released as a prototype but not quite. It's possible I could have it preview ready for next week.I've also done some more thinking about the movie structure. I want a public release of the movie up to around scene 3 by the end of the year. That would be fully complete for those scenes, all sounds and editing. At which point, I'm considering the production of the rest of the movie. Perhaps I should release the rest as shorter, separate movies. Examples could be, krogan scenes get re-worked to Tuchanka, Elcor scene reworked to the Citadel. It would provide a bit more variety and an excuse to try some different settings than more of the same club. It'd also allow me to try some other short projects in between than stay working on one huge project all the time. Even at a much better pace, this movie as a whole is still going to take a while.
On that note, I wonder what you guys think about stuff other than the movie. That is, I've gotten a bit frustrated with my lack of content. The movie is going reasonably well, but any given update takes a lot of time. Out of that, progress with Blender isn't really getting anywhere. Render times that are 10x as much for stuff that doesn't really look as good as I can make in SFM isn't currenlty worth it. I do think Blender is the way forward, and Eevee has a lot of potential, but I'm not entirely sure it's the move I need to make now, especially with my older PC. I still need to get better at working with the shaders, and the effort to rigging characters creates a pretty huge barrier to starting any project in Blender
I've thought about making some loops or shorter projects in SFM this year and try to focus more on Blender when I can build a new PC next year. But then I'm not really sure what I should do. It's like I don't have much of an identity more than my Mass Effect stuff and occassional Dragon Age/ Witcher projects. I want to branch out, but I don't really know what other people would like.
TL;DR Feedback on breaking the movie up? What about working on some other stuff? What other things should I try?

I actually like the fact that UA is all taking place during one single night at the club, as a very "productive" night for Miranda, with the action escalating steadily. However, I wouldn't be averse to multiple episodes, but that would just be me wanting more content. You could do polls again and maybe add a patreon tier with an extra vote in the 10-15$ price range, because some people might just wanna contribute some more. Or seeing as how you make about a minute to two minute long animation per month, take a small break from UA and work on something else for that month. Kinda like LA does it, but with actually providing content. That could also help raise your patreons.

Well here's a thought then. If you went with a "mini" movie for each scene as changing the locations and such, maybe after it was all done then you could put all of them together as a whole movie after each one is complete and released to the public. Up to you, I wouldn't mind seeing the whole movie in the club or as "mini" movies released at separate times. Then I guess you could add in the scenes that you thought about cutting and add them back in. Just a thought

Regarding stuff other than the movie, I think posters and short anim loops would probably be good. Maybe bring back the patreon poll?

Blender eevee is supposed to have great render times actually. Of course, the Blender 2.8 full release has been delayed until next year. I think I'll give the beta a try though. As for Kassandra, she looks great, but I don't think there's a model out yet.

No, keep it as a whole movie but split it into parts. Heck, you could even be patreon-nizing with it, releasing a scene for public fapping with only patreons getting access to the next part. As for eevee, it’s only really good for short loops because of blenders inherent long render times. If you really want to do more content, Kassandra from ass creed is looking goddamn delicious

That's sort of what I was thinking. Ultimately, it's the same project, but each location adds variety and makes individual releases work better.

Hmm, I don't really have any issue with a longer movie just set in the club, but I admit splitting into different locations could be interesting. Like an Undercover Assignment Miniseries, with each new locale being a new 'assignment' for Miranda.

Working on other things is good n helps there b no burnout. I like Halo, Fortnite, WoW, rainbow 6, n many more franchises that r ripe for lewding

Hey I don't know about anyone else but I'm happy to see you take longer and work on big projects like this. But I'm saying that look what happened to desire sfm lately? Worked on a huge project and was burnt out by the end. So definitely take a break if you need one and work on something for pleasure so the same doesn't happen to you.
