He might know of Al's mannerisms and can parrot him to an extent, but beyond that he's got no idea how Al would navigate a situation where Ethan's clearly preoccupied with other concerns. If Ethan was having a gut feeling something was off before, he's gotta be hearing blaring sirens that this is the bad place now!
I decided to make Ethan a little more serious about rejecting Faux Al's advances and I'm tossing out the idea that Malthus' face would be clearly morphing through at the end there like I had written in the roughs. I originally intended it to be a "when Malthus gets mad the illusion falters", and that's true, like here:
But it's not the right place and time for that, in this scene! (•́⌄•́๑)

I’m skeptical that Ethan can get out of this on his own since Al couldn’t even when he knew it was an illusion, but maybe there’s more to Transference that we don’t know about yet.

Oooo yeah you definitely get the impression that this impression of Al is coming from a person who understands sex but not love. And the fact that he's dropping the mask so fast goes to show that Malthus isn't particularly skilled at patience or subtlety either haha. His efforts at emotional manipulation are very hamhanded, more brute force than anything else...maybe because he feels like his upper hand is starting to slip and he's getting desperate, sloppy?

i dont think malthus has any concept of consent or boundaries so i feel like this scene is about to get really uncomfortable. ☹️ the real al would ask ethan why he feels that way rather than just try to get in his pants
