Let's Examine Hitman
🕑 Added 2016-07-25 00:45:48 +0000 UTC I created this video in April of 2016, but I forgot to post it on Patreon until now! Oops!I think that this video might be one of the most important videos I've ever made, since the purpose of this video is to communicate what kind of game I'm trying to make.
This video was very fun to make, and I'm proud of how it turned out! I wish I could make more videos like this, but I'm sure that you Patrons would be happier if I spent my time writing code, instead.
What do you think? Is it okay for me to stop working on the game for a few days to make videos that analyze game design and elaborate on my plans for Yandere Sim? Or do you think I should focus 100% of my attention on developing Yandere Simulator?

While I did enjoy that video and the things that you can take away from it and apply to Yandere, I feel that viewing them as separate entities is more important, not examining all sorts of things to be inspired by. Focus on your own, original ideas and strengths of your own game, no need to explain that some stuff was inspired by other things. We'll probably be able to see that.

Speaking as a software dev myself, spending time on design and creative direction is super super important! Spending weeks on some code only to have to throw it out always sucks. Worse still, it's easy to get attached to something being in the game and be unwilling to change it even when doing so would improve the final product. Plus, videos like this are really interesting and informative! The process of playing a game to critically evaluate it can teach you a lot. The "Extra Credit" series is fantastic for the same reason.

I think you should occaisonally analize other games, just not too much.

I think that the value of creating this video and thus justifying the time spent relies on how much you, Yanderedev, took away from it. When I'm working on hard problems (I do do some coding but I'm more of a network engineer, so Powershell and Python scripting are more my thing) I find that taking the time to explain my goals to others often leads to insights into what I am doing. Did you find some similar inspiration in the creation of this video? If you did then I think you end up with a net positive effect, and I am OK with that.
Just keep doing what you think is nessary, we all support you.
