Hi Tik, We all know that Stalin dismissed the various warnings from his intelligence sources regarding the imminent invasion of USSR. His military leaders also sought permission for various measures that may have blunted an attack to some degree. Was wondering what were some of the things that Stalin could have done and what effect these would have had in the initial weeks of the war as well as the ultimate outcome. Would a higher alert stance taken have made any difference and would that have had to occur very early or would even measures taken later have made a difference. I do recall reading something about fortifications built in the 1920's that were disassembled that might have provided some defense in depth. Certainly easy preventive measures such as spacing the aircraft parked at the air bases would have reduced the number destroyed in the initial days of the air attack.

oh, this is in relation to someones interest in 3rd battle of kharkov. ie W McCune
