IF you want to skip most of the work you can simply buy a quality harmine/harmaline product then do the THH reduction as shown in this video, its a much faster and easier process if you do it that way, and the raw extract is not very expensive OR you can just buy the finished purified product with THH (if you can find it). UPDATE: Since I made this video I have found that using magnesium ribbon instead of the zinc dust powder is the best way to go, it is much cleaner and makes the reduction happen much faster (can finish in 15 minutes but I would let it stir for at least 30 minutes just to make sure its complete). I recommend: https://amzn.to/31Xx6at (instead of the previously recommended "Zinc Dust Powder, Ultra High Purity 5-8 Micron").
You can use less than half the magnesium vs. zinc since the molecular weight is lower. The actual formula is: (g of harmaline you are reducing)/214.26 * 3 = (g of Mg) / 24.305 Multiplying by 3 above is just a general rule of thumb because you want to use an excess there to ensure a complete reduction. Say for example you had 3g of harmaline, that would mean you should use: 3*(24.305/214.26) * 3 = g of Mg Or 1g of Mg (but it won't hurt anything if you use more).

I am not 100% sure on this but a good separation of magnesium, at least from the THH, might be achieved by basing with ammonium then redissolving everything in phosphoric acid and carefully basing again with ammonia. The magnesium precipitates as magnesium ammonium phosphate (MAP) between around pH 5.5 and 6.0. At around pH 6.2 comes down with the harmine. I suppose that instead of using vinegar in the initial step of dissolving the powdered harmalas into solution, you can use phosphoric acid to get the PH down to the low 4s.
