Also I'll add...this is the best "kaiju" or Godzilla movie in decades. Have a ball watching the spectacle of other recent Godzilla movies. He smashes stuff and there's special effects, but there's not much for characters or acting or writing. The first Pacific Rim is pretty cool but for me you started with the best one. Maybe Cloverfield if you're okay with hand held shaky camera found footage stuff.

Me and my partner have gone through maybe 6 or 7 Godzilla movies in the last few months for funzies. My understanding is that Godzilla is very much a metaphor for the devastation of Nuclear Weapons. Also I had to laugh when Chandra said, "Godzilla's kind of a jerk. He doesn't need to attack her train." Godzilla don't do trains. Watching those movies I learned Godzilla sees a train, he gon' get 'dat train.

I never expected a Godzilla movie to be this good and emotionally driven. It deserved every bit of praise heaped on it. I think if you got emotional watching this, Peter Jackson's 2005 remake of King Kong will have a similar effect if y'all watch it. It's another incredible monster movie with a lot of heart. The recent Godzilla movies are okay, but pale in comparison to this one.
