I think you're absolutely right. There's a lot of hidden depth to these movies - so many moments like that that give me chills or bring tears to my eyes ❤️

I honestly don't think I could ever put into words how much this film means to me. While this film may certainly have been made with four quadrants in mind, and just about anyone can enjoy it; there's definitely a subset of people who know that it was made for them, specifically. There are several scenes that stood out to me when watching this in the theater (multiple times, of course), but upon re-watching it, the scene in which Peter plays catch with his father was treated with so much reverence. The slow-motion, the joy and the magic--I don't know anything about James Gunn's relationship with his father, but the way that was directed just makes me feel so seen and understood. I cry during that scene, every single time, because it was so cathartic. I had no dad to play catch with, but I had the best mom ever. For certain people, with certain experiences, this movie is so much more than fun and imaginative. It's powerful.
