Allow me, your Malaysian representative to say a few words. Ack-ack-acktualley, the male lead for Crazy Rich Asians is half British half Iban, who are a group of Indigenous people living in Malaysia, specifically the Borneo side. He is technically an Asian but not as Chinese as the story that was meant to tell. The population of Singapore is predominantly Chinese hence why the movie a Chinese-based and has a heavy Chinese cast (also, the write of the book grew up in Singapore). Back in Malaysia where I'm from, Chinese makes up 20% of the total population which also consists of Malay, Indians and the Indigenous. We are all Asians. Also, many scenes and locations in the movie are shot in Malaysia but passed off as Singapore so fuck "Crazy Rich Asians". Thank you. On a side note, since we are on this topic of "Asian peepo". Regarding the question will Shang Chi be the Black Panther for Asian people, I personally do not think so it will be. Shang Chi is a hero of Chinese-descent but he is not a hero for Asians. There will not be a movement. Not all Asians are Chinese. Let's just say Asian people aren't as united and that's just the way we are. If this Shang Chi movie is about him kung-fu-fighting triads in Chinatown, it is not going to be a sucess because we have seen it all over here.
