AG is turning back to the Smudging Goblin mode. Yeah, they're fine.

Well, one-year buffer can be almost impossible for an author that works alone. Willis has to use some tricks. You're right, it's very effective.

This is yet another extremely effective strip composed of nearly-identical panels. When a sequence of panels are almost the same, the small modulations of details pop out: in this case, Sal and Amber's facial expressions, and the color of Amber's speech balloons. Against this setup of near-repetition, Asher's appearance, and the widening of the frame needed to accommodate it, put a nice punch behind the photobomb effect. It's new information, too—however widely guessed by commenters. For comparison, note how the unused Joyce-Dorothy strip also uses the near-repetition technique, with slight movements of their hands moving closer, gazes moving toward each other, and final kiss—but it's a gentle, confirming last panel, whose lack of border continues us into the night (along with the darkening of the illumination from the screen when Joyce's arm closes the laptop).
