The Pierce Bronsan is good -in "GoldenEye", or The Original Bond in "Gold Finger" w/ Sean Connery. You seem to favor the newer shows, sometimes older is better.

Of course, there are exceptions. I still strongly believe that it's better to watch "Monsters University" before "Monsters, Inc.," given that the revelation at the end of the latter largely undermines the main plot of the former. It also makes no sense to me to not watch the LOTR trilogy before the "Hobbit" trilogy or the Star Wars saga in release order other than pure 'tradition' (why would one willingly want to go into Eps. I-III in the latter already knowing their general outcome??).

Which is why, for new viewers, it just seems (to me) easier to watch in release order if possible, instead of having to deal with avoiding the aforementioned mistakes.

I don't know a single person who's seen all 25 Bond movies in release order, so it's kind of silly getting all worked up about it. I will, however, admit there are some that should definitely be seen before others (it would be a mistake to not watch all the Connery/Lazenby movies in release order apart from the totally self-contained "Goldfinger," to watch "For Your Eyes Only" before "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (and perhaps also "You Only Live Twice"), to watch "The Man with the Golden Gun" before "Live and Let Die," to watch "Moonraker" before "The Spy Who Loved Me," to watch either "Tomorrow Never Dies" or "The World Is Not Enough" before "GoldenEye," or to watch "Die Another Day" before "The World Is Not Enough").

While I'd seen bits and pieces of several Bond movies prior to this, "GoldenEye" was also the first Bond movie I ever saw in its entirety.

I'm a Pierce Brosnan Guy myself, Grew up with N64 Golden eye and all those other Brosnan themed games. Still I think this was the first Blu-ray I ever watched.

Yes, "Quantum" seems to pretty much be universally considered the weakest Craig outing, but still nonetheless also ties in with the latter 3 movies. Of course, with the exception of "Goldfinger," all the Connery/Lazenby movies have a general through line as well (if not quite as prominent).

Yes, most people cite "From Russia with Love," "Goldfinger" and maybe "GoldenEye" and/or either this one or "Skyfall" as among the best... but then the 'best' of the rest are pretty much totally wild cards for most -- and also why I think she should just watch them all. It would certainly make up for *very patiently* waiting for her to slog through all this MCU stuff... 🤫

A great movie for your first introduction to Bond! The Daniel Craig movies have some ebbs and flows in quality, in my opinion. Unfortunately, the next one in the series, "Quantum of Solace", is definitely my least favorite, but then the quality comes right back up with "Skyfall", one of my favorite Bond movies! If you're going to watch all of the Daniel Craig movies, the one older Bond movie I would recommend is "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969). I think that movie really amplifies the emotional beats of the last Daniel Craig movie, "No Time to Die".

Hear, hear. I would love to see Addie react to The Equalizer (2014) and its sequel The Equalizer 2 (2018). A third one comes out in September.

This is definitely one of my favorite James Bond movies(I think "From Russia With Love" will always be my #1, though). I'm glad you've dipped your toe into James Bond's world. I hope you continue with Daniel Craig's series of movies in the role, if only so you can experience the awesomeness that is "Skyfall". The other three Bond movies he did are good, but I would put them below "Skyfall" and "Casino Royale". But all five movies together make a fairly self-contained story. After that you can decide if you want to try out the "classic" Bond movies. Some are definitely better than others, and if you ask fans which handful are the best to watch, you'll probably get a different answer from each person.

Yeah, how dare she start with the most polished version of the franchise, requiring only a handful of movies that, unlike it's predecessors, maintains an ongoing, self contained narrative. The horror.

I'd love for you to react to all 25 Bond movies, but I'm not gonna hold my breath (maybe do them in increments, i.e. all the Craig ones first, wait a while, and then go back and do the Connery/Lazenby ones, wait a while again, then do all the Moore ones, wait a while again and finally finish with the Dalton/Brosnan outings?).

I agree, but much like Star Trek, it's not required since this is a reboot, but it would still be great to see her go back and watch some of the amazing classics 😀

Granted, if you're not going to start at the very beginning with "Dr. No," this is the next best place, IMO, since it reboots the series from scratch (even if it retained Judi Dench as M from the Brosnan movies).

I am not criticizing Addie, and am not looking for in-depth exploration of the merits of this or that, or anything else related to picking which movies she's going to watch. I adore Addie and her reactions bring me great entertainment. That said... ...I'm an old guy, and hearing any reactor say "This is my first time watching a James Bond movie... this is 'Casino Royale'." kills just a tiny, little bit of my soul.

I haven't watched yet, but it looks like she's streaming from HBOMAX, and last I checked, they no longer had the uncut version available there, so if you have the 4K Blu-Ray, make sure you watch the right version.

Speaking of Martin Campbell, who directed this movie, I suggest Criminal Law (1988), Defenseless (1991), No Escape (1994), GoldenEye (1995, the first Pierce Brosnan James Bond movie), The Mask of Zorro (1998), The Legend of Zorro (2005) (both executive produced by Steven Spielberg), Vertical Limit (2000), Beyond Borders (2003), Edge of Darkness (2010), The Foreigner (2017), The Protégé (2021), and Memory (2022).
