I thought the fact that it came out in 1979 would make it slightly less scary due to the special effects at the time... NOPE NOPE NOPE THE ALIEN IS TERRIFYING!! It was fun to see Ian Holm (Bilbo Baggins himself!!) in this film though! Enjoy!

Agree. Aliens isn't nearly as scary as Alien, so Addie would be fine.

Yes, I'd say "The Thing," "The Exorcist," the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," and the original "Halloween" should all be on her shortlist for next October.

You might as well also do "Aliens" (yes, the Special Edition, as others have mentioned, as it fleshes out a few story elements); no need to bother with a poll, since I'm sure it'll likely win anyway. Also, that was Ollivander from the Harry Potter movies as Kane (the one who 'gave birth' to the alien).

I totally agree with you. This is why I always put a warning on any movie that I suggest to Addie, where I remember seeing a snake in them, due to her ophidiophobia.

Awesome reaction! The special effects of the late 70s to late 80s will always hold up better than CGI effects. They had to use practical effects in those days and the creativity was off-the-charts outstanding. Remember, "Star Wars" (1977) was 2 years before "Alien". The special make-up and visual effects community had learned a few more tricks by then. Addie handled "Alien" better than she did "The Shining". Either she is getting used to horror or we've narrowed down that the supernatural/horror movie is her weakness, not so much monster/horror. Hmm... We must test this theory with a reaction of "The Thing" (1982). Maybe next year? π

If you watch the 1986 sequel Aliens, I agree with others here that the Special Edition is preferred. It restores some scenes that really help the movie flow better, and was the director's preferred cut(the studio made him cut the movie down for time). The original version is 2 hours 17 minutes long, while the Special Edition is 2 hours 34 minutes. From what I've seen though the Special Edition is harder to find on streaming services, but I believe it can be bought/rented on Prime.

Aliens special edition (2nd movie) sequal is even better in my opinion. Worth a watch, less scary, more action oriented and directed by James Cameron. You want to see Ripley be a bad ass, this is the one. Plus it's home to one of the most famous lines ever. You'll see xD

Fun fact, this film is directed by Ridley Scott, the older brother of Tony Scott, the director of Top Gun (1986), which also stars Tom Skeritt (Viper). Kane is played by the late John Hurt (Ollivander in Harry Potter). And my favorite shot in the movie is when Kane is lowered down, while exploring Acheron (LV-426), because of the anamorphic lens flare that emits from his flashlight, because of the movie's Panavision.

Happy Wednesday, Addie! π I haven't seen this movie in so long. I'm definitely looking forward to revisiting it. "Alien 3" is really the only movie that I remember the most from this franchise. There is one specific scene that I so remember from this movie though. Have a great day today! π

Let's give Addie a round of applause for surviving Alien (1979). ππ Happy Wednesday, BTW. This is your best reaction since The Dark Knight (2008), especially with the Addie scream when the Xenomorph kills Dallas. Alien is one of my favorite sci-fi films. I first heard of this movie after going on the former Great Movie Ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. And yes, Xenomorphs are terrifying, and yes, Chestbursters slither like snakes. I can also agree with you that it was very well done indeed, especially with Derek Vanlint's cinematography in Panavision (anamorphic).
