"2001" is an experience more than a movie and should be seen on a gigantic IMAX screen to reap the full benefit. Since it's light on narrative, it leaves many awed but perplexed. "2010" is an excellent but conventional sequel with a stacked cast that provides answers to many dangling questions and has the monolith fulfill its purpose. They're two different cinematic experiences but both are satisfying adaptations of the Arthur C. Clarke novels.

Yes, unfortunately, people generally struggle with being able to appreciate more abstract art than with more straightforward fare. And you'd think with all these movies with the 'action' tag that Addie's watched over the last few months they'd finally want to go a different route. Apparently not. 🤷‍♂️

I still find it amusing that Jude Law wasn't featured at all in the original promotion of "Gattaca" -- because, of course, he was still mostly unknown at the time. But now he's featured just as much - if not more so - in its promotion as Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman in both physical media and streaming services. The only other such shift I've seen is with "Congo," making Laura Linney a much greater focal point in subsequent years. That said, yes, I'll take "Gattaca" over any of these other titles apart from "2001" (and while I think "Minority Report" is one of Steven Spielberg's most overrated films, it's the only other reaction I'd watch among these).

I think watching Addie watch 2001 is the closest we'll get to seeing Addie stoned, the film itself is the drug. 🤯

I just re-watched Gattaca recently, and I gotta say, still a great watch. I was worried on my re-watch that it wouldn't hold up, but not only does it, but you're right, it's also prescient to where we are now and into the future.

Oh my god, 2001 is in 4th place right now? It's behind The Day After Tomorrow?" I don't know what to say. Everyone to their own tastes and all, but 2001 is literally one of the best films ever made. It's referenced in other movies, shows and various other media more than I've ever seen other films referenced. If it doesn't somehow pull out of fourth place, I truly think if you have not seen it, you should cover it at some point. It is an important moment in film-making. I mean, there is a whole stupid conspiracy theory about Stanley Kubrick faking the moon landing based on this film!

If it is more recent sci-fi classics we are voting on this time, Gattaca should have been on the list. I feel it is more relevant now than when it was first released in the late '90's. It has already been prophetic in some ways, may be a somewhat accurate depiction of the dystopia we are headed for when designer humans become a reality (probably only for the rich and privileged at first, magnifying their advantage, and subjugated, lower class status for the rest of us). Definitely ripe for reaction and discussion from a quality source such as Addie. I liked Demolition Man, too (looks like that's in the lead), prophetic in a more satirical manner, and though more light-hearted and action packed, sometimes a good mockery of tyrannical, dystopian future paths we were, or still are, headed down. Nearly all the other channels have reacted to this movie, already (only a few for Gattaca), but I guess I wouldn't mind seeing Addie react, as well.

It's also the only straight sci-fi film in the poll; everything else is sci-fi/action... and I personally feel she's watched more than enough movies with the 'action' tag over the last couple of months. 🤔

Yeah, my heart breaks a little that it's not a runaway leader in this poll. The most important sci-fi film of all time and pretty much considered Kubrick's one masterpiece.

DEMOLITION MAN is fun. Weird how that movie is making a resurgence. I saw a meme once where someone demonstrated how to use the three sea shells. I think I'd rather use the traditional method. I'm old school like that.

Voted for A day after tomorrow, that movie needs to be on the movie reactors map. It hasn't been seen much in the react space and it deserves to!

Wow, this is a good list! Aside from The Day After Tomorrow I can recommend all of these. I went with 2001 simply because it's one of the best movies of all time (it's literally #1 on Rolling Stones Top Sci Fi Movies of All Time list for example). Plus it would fill in a nice gap in Addie's Kubrick collection (so far she's seen The Shining and Full Metal Jacket, 2001 is suspenseful but not as violent as those.)

All are great choices but my votes go to 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) as your THIRD Stanley Kubrick movie, RoboCop (1987) as your THIRD Paul Verhoeven movie, and Minority Report (2002) with Tom Cruise, as your next Steven Spielberg movie. BTW, I'm going to Universal Studios Hollywood today.
