I like the choices that you have given us, but there is one movie that I would really like to share with you because it seems that we have a similar taste in movies. The movie is called Dances With Wolves with Kevin Costner. If you do choose to watch this movie make sure you get the long extended version where it has the whole movie because they do cut the movie. Make sure your have some tissues

Coppola made 4 of the best films of the '70s: "Apocalypse Now," the first 2 "Godfather" films, and the criminally underrated "The Conversation" (which I'm hoping *someone* will finally react to eventually 🙏). But the rest of his filmography is a mixed bag.

The weird thing to me about "We Were Soldiers" is that it's a Vietnam War movie presented like a WWII movie. It's still the only un-cynical movie about that war that I've ever seen, which I feel is kind of problematic given that time and history have told us otherwise that we had no business being involved in that conflict in the first place. 🤷‍♂️

"stories" in the Greek narrative are histories with an exaggerated element. But they are still part of history and should be approached with their accuracy as the cornerstone for any adaptation.

I recommend another fantastic movie albeit little known and underrated. It's called Men of Honor with Robert De Niro and Cuba Gooding Jr. Maybe watch that sometime in the future if you want to feel inspired

The Final Cut at least eliminates the totally unnecessary 'private time with the Bunnies' segment (which also leads to a problematic plot detail later) and shortens the French plantation segment (which clumsily attempts to politicize the war).

Platoon won 4 oscars but never wins these polls, hope you get to it sometime, its the best cast of all the movies.

Definitely "Glory"! That is one that my high school history teacher showed us years ago and it is such a great and impactful film and it's one that I think you will truly enjoy.

Great poll Addie, lots of great choices, 'Fury' is one of the best modern war films, 'Dunkirk' in my opinion is better than '1917'. But 'Apocalypse Now' is one of my favorite films of all time. A masterpiece.

"Apocalypse Now" is one of the best films ever made period. It just happens to be a war film. It's a must see! By far, Francis Ford Coppola's best!

Looks like Addie is in a war movie mood to balance out the Rom-Coms. 😄 I’m going with Apocalypse Now, Platoon, and Troy on this one. (Troy isn’t quite as classic a war movie as the first two, but I kind of liked it and it’s been a while since I’ve seen it so I’m down for it. 🙂 The fight choreography with Brad Pitt as Achilles is pretty great!)

A very solid list. In my opinion the best American war movie is The Big Red One (1981). The best war movie overall is Come And See (1986) but there's no way I would want Addie to watch it.

Platoon is possibly the greatest Vietnam War movie of all time (and in my opinion it is). It's semi-autobiographical as it's heavily based on Oliver Stone's own experiences there. Little bit disappointed that it's coming in almost last, but it's also an older movie that most younger people have never heard of.

Given that she just watched "1917," I'd rather she do a film focusing on a different war this time. Plus, as someone else mentioned, the original 1930 version is more significant in terms of the history of film anyway.

As a veteran I also love All Quiet On The Western Front. However that depends which one you watch. Its been remade as movie a 3 times. The original in the late 1930s, then one in the 70 and one that came out a few years ago. If you do a poll I'd suggest doing the 1930s original and the newest one. That being said. We Were Soldiers is my vote alone with Dunkirk and Glory. Honestly most movies in this poll besides Troy are worth it.

All Quiet on the Western Front changed me, even as a veteran. To see the loss, the tragedy, and the uncaring, uninvolved persons who made the decisions affecting millions of lives in WW 1 affects me still.

This is a travesty that they can’t all win, she needs to watch all of these movies at some point. Except Fury, the ending of that movie was so ridiculously implausible that my parents and I were actually laughing the whole time.
