Addie, I don't know if you remember, but in Deadpool 2 there's at least 2 references to The Goonies. After he gets ripped in half by Juggernaut, he's wearing Chunks Hawiian shirt, and he calls Cable (Josh Brolin) One Eyed Willy.

And a lot of the Goonies are still friends. The kid that played Chunk is now an entertainment lawyer, and one of his clients is Ke Huy Quan (Data). He brokered his deal to be in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, which marked his comeback to acting and won him an Academy award. Goonies never say die!

Cyndi Lauper's cross-promotion with the WWF (now WWE) was super fun. I had no idea what wrestling had to do with The Goonies but it was so fun I didn't really care.

I hadn't seen The Goonies before, it's a fun movie! And it's funny seeing young Thanos/Cable as the big brother Brand and even younger Samwise as the younger brother Mikey. π Also Anne Ramsey who plays Mama Fratelli is great, I haven't seen her since Throw Mama from the Train with Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal. (That movie was ok, it's loosely based on one of my favorite Hitchcock films of all time, Strangers on a Train.)

Exactly the comment I was going to add! Monster Squad would be a great Halloween-time movie for Addie. It has all the theme, all the fun, and not too much of the scare.

What a fun reaction! The Goonies is one of my all-time favorite movies, in fact there are some aspects of it that hit me harder than they did when I was younger. I love the sort of relationship that Mikey develops with One-Eyed Willy(btw, now you know why Deadpool called Cable "One-Eyed Willy" in Deadpool 2. :) Some familiar faces you might have missed: Joey Pants from The Matrix and a bunch of other movies played Francis Fratelli, while Robert Davi played his brother Jake. Davi was the FBI guy in the first Die Hard who was all "Just like back in Saigon!" on the helicopter. At the end when the two cops in red baseball caps ride up, the one on the right is Richard Donner, the director of the movie. He also directed the Lethal Weapons and the original Christopher Reeve Superman. For a few of the big anniversaries, The Goonies has been brought back to the big screen for limited engagements. Next year is the 40th, so there's a decent chance it'll come back out. If so, I HIGHLY recommend going, I went a few years ago and it absolutely still holds up. :)

I would like to suggest another 80's classic (Lost Boys) which also has one of the goonies in it, not quite the family friendly adventure this was but still a fantastic movie.
