Update for December 2016
🕑 Added 2016-12-13 19:58:33 +0000 UTC Hey guys! It's been a while since I posted anything. I hope everyone enjoyed the Floppy Disk Camera episode. I've been working on that for the last 3 weeks. There was a lot of criticism in the comments about everything from audio quality, editing quality, and even my opinions. But, overall I think most people liked it.A lot of people have been complaining that I should do 1080p. Technically, my equipment can do it, but my computer is so old that it really bogs down. So I'm thinking about upgrading soon so that I can do it.
I also recently bought a 360 degree camera, The Nikon KeyMission 360. But the quality was horrible so I returned it the next day. It's too bad. I really wanted to do a tour of my museum in 360 degree that people could watch on their VR headsets as I walk around and show things. But I'll have to find a different camera.
As for an update on going full-time. I can definitely say 2017 will be the year. Probably in the next 6 months. Patreon now accounts for about 25% of the total revenue for my channels, and is the most stable source. Sure, every month I lose a few people, but I usually gain a few as well. I've already sort of let it be known at work that 2017 will be my last year (I've worked at the same place 11 years already) I wouldn't be able to even be planning for this without everyone's support, so you have my thanks. And I will obviously try to repay you with more great content, as you have come to expect.
I certainly haven't ru out of ideas. In fact, I have a running list with enough episode ideas to keep me busy for at least a year as it is.
I've been thinking about making a quick "8-Bit Guy F.A.Q." episode. I did one before but it was not done very well. I'm not terribly proud of that one. So this one would just be me in my usual style of recording where I show some snippets of the most common questions people send me and then answer them. And since some of the questions are really annoying, I suppose it would be an entertaining episode. But it might piss some people off. (I would blank out their names on screen) so I haven't decided if that would be a good idea or not. But I see other channels doing it. So what do you guys think?
I've probably said this before, but I always welcome visitors if you are passing through the DF/W area (or live here) and want to come by and tour the studio and my computer museum. Doesn't matter if you are a patreon supporter or not. I've had at least a dozen people come by so far. We can hang out, play some vintage video games, just chat, have lunch, whatever.

1. There was a 3rd generation floppy Mavica, the MVC-FD100, with a fully integrated memory stick slot and a switch to toggle between the floppy or MS. I have one at work, currently sitting in a pile of other junk, waiting to go to an electronics recycler: <a href="http://imgur.com/a/6h333" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://imgur.com/a/6h333</a> We also have an ancient Sony Hi-8 digital firewire camrecorder that uses the same batteries, also probably going to recycling eventually. 2. A silly thing you didn't mention is the translucent bar across the top of the Mavica LCD that lights up white with the camera turned on. Supposedly you could turn off the backlight and use ambient light through that bar to illuminate the LCD, shading the LCD with your hand. But the results are downright awful, so this battery-saver "feature" is mostly useless. 3. One unusual thing about the Sony electronics of the 1990's is their batteries. I have original Sony FD-330 and FD-530 InfoLithium batteries that are now 15-20 years old, and they still hold a charge and work fine. What is the deal here, why do these last but laptop batteries lose capacity after only 3-5 years? 4. Youtube's comment system is terrible. * Idiots who repost the same memes over and over * Idiots who repeat things you state in your description * Message threading is a 1-level deep joke * Finding old threads to continue a discussion is impossible * Apparently no one but the channel owner can moderate/delete, so it's all on you to sort through it. Seems like you almost need a phpBB web forum, and then other interested people can help moderate the teeming masses with you. 5. I expect you know this already but the first biggest and cheapest speed boost to an older computer is more memory. 4 gig is now a bare minimum, and 8-12 is now preferred. 16 gig is still excessive but we will get there eventually. (And must use 64-bit OS, it's surprising to find computers still using 32-bit. ) The second biggest and cheapest performance jump for an older machine is from a mechanical drive to a solid state drive. The other cheap (but NOT necessarily easy) speed fix for older computers is just cleaning. The airflow may be blocked, the system is always baking hot, and the CPU is slowing itself down to prevent damage. This can be quite difficult to do with laptops, and all-in-one desktop systems.
