The A500 Mini Review
🕑 Added 2022-03-21 16:34:10 +0000 UTCSorry I wasn't able to release this early on Patreon, but there was an embargo. And for me it released at 5:00 in the morning on a schedule. But anyway, better late than never. I hope you enjoy.

I tried to get some answers from the website and documentation, but I don't understand really how it works... "should be easy for someone who has some knowledge about the Amiga", I don't think so...

I'm not sure. I don't have it setup where I can check. The WHDLoad format is more like a harddrive image than a floppy image. On the bright side, it isn't speed limited or space limited like the ADF images.

I can tell that the green floppy light turns on when accessing the USB Stick, doesn't your one do that David? But I'm puzzled with the format they ask: never heard of WHDBoot before...

Mine arrived today π

Then again. If you don't need the controller pad, you might could avoid the hub.
The 8-Bit Guy
I think so, but you'd have to use a USB hub to do it.

Is it possible to hook up a keyboard plus the mouse to be able to playa game like Space Quest 3?

I am originally from the UK, and I don't know half these games either. I would have preferred Speedball 2 over Speedball 1, Lotus Turbo Challenge, Moonstone, Turrican, Colonization, Beneath a Steel Sky, Syndicate. I suspect the included games list is a result of licensing costs.
Thanks for doing this review David, I've been on the fence about this, but may end up getting one. It sounds like it'll be easy enough to add additional Amiga games, but I wonder if it will also support the type of C64 games that can run on the c64 mini and maxi as well?

Thanks for the mini review! I like the small SOC board design, very well done, and noticed they put pads on the back for more RAM in another option, clever. I do wonder if that 4 pin connector is another USB, you could have an "internal" one in that case. Including the pad and mouse are superb, I wish the mouse was fullsize but is still neat to have it. I'll grab one, mainly as the inclusion of the pad and mouse sweetens the deal somewhat.

I played Alien Breed and Another World on Vita years later. (I actually finished both of them as well.) I don't think I actually played any of these games on the Amiga itself though. I might have to get one even though I already have my Pi400 running Pimiga to cover all my actual Amiga gaming needs.

Confirmed the thumbnail is fixed now.

I haven't heard one way or the other.

I'm not sure. Just some no-name thing I got on Amazon a few years ago.

What capture device did you use for the HDMI? :-)

Looks pretty cool. It's nice to see the 16-bit era getting the same kind of attention as the 8-bit stuff always does! Do you know if there are any plans to come out with a Maxi version of this like they did with the C64?
