The Commander X16 is finally here!
🕑 Added 2022-10-11 22:24:44 +0000 UTCIt's been 3 years since the last update. I hope you guys will be as excited as I am about this product!
I've also started a fundraiser to help the team out. You can use the GoFundMe link in the video description, or you can use my website. I've setup a special donation item in the store. That way all of your money goes to the project instead of having to pay fees to GoFundMe.

After brainstorming I know what i can do i make a midi card with breakout box

It's because the Commodore VIC-20, C64, Plus/4, and C128 all have that key. Its part of the history of these systems.
MrHammond
Cool stuff! Hope it will be a success, even if I've never been a C64 guy I put $25 in the project, and I see you already got your first goal, congratulations!
Jens Hafner
Congratulations. It is never easy to keep up moral for a project that runs that long. I noticed that the keyboard has a Pound-Symbol (โค) on the keyboards upper right hand corner. Since this is a niche currency and the symbol will probably only be used in a small market I was wondering whether you plan to introduce versions for major markets with a ยฅ or โฌ symbol? Or is this just a courtasey to perifractics home country? ;-)
I've donated a few $ to help out. I've been looking forward to this for a while. My studies for the year finish soon so I should have more time to get back in to programming / writing tutorials for X16.

Great news! You mentioned maximum of 256 sprites, or double the specification published in the FAQ. Was this a misstatement or VERA changed very recently?
Paul Fisher
Oh ok, i am open to suggestions then.
The 8-Bit Guy
Well, that would probably be somewhat redundant. We already have a buffered DAC in the system already.
Paul Fisher
Was going to try and make a sound card based around the covox concept, but use an ATMega2560 to allow it to run independent of the system, so my idea is, i have a certain amount of memory on board, you load in the data, and tell the MCU to start playing, also looking having ports that will allow the mainsound to be mixed in. Unless you want to steer me in a different direction. As I would like to see if i can work on an expansion card. As I'm also working on some CM4 carrier boards, one of which is a MAME board, with a 50W RMS amp on the same board, as I also now have as a side business been making arcade cabinets
The 8-Bit Guy
Haha.. not yet. Maybe some day it will!

Donated via your webshop. Great to see this come alive. Canโt wait to get one! So does it run doom?
The 8-Bit Guy
Partly... but it's also incredibly difficult to integrate those things into the system. HDMI runs at a very high speed. And USB requires a lot of processing power to handle the stack.
The 8-Bit Guy
Kevin should have the pinout and docs. What did you want to make?
Paul Fisher
David, I even feel encouraged to make an expansion card for the Commander X16 I assume you have documentation on the expansion slots.
Big Car
Thanks for sharing! Did you avoid USB & HDMI because of licensing cost?

Wonderful! I'm so excited to see this moving forward, David. I just made a donation as well. Brilliant work to you and the crew.
Ryan Yoder
Donated. Good luck. Iโll buy one when ready.
The x16 is looking great, I hope there will be enough at launch so I can get one!
Tyler Compton
This is so exciting to see! Thanks for seeing this project through. Can't wait to get my hands on it when the phase 1 board is on sale to the general public.
Great video David! X16 looks Awesome!

Aw. AssPad is dead. Long live the AssPad!
Matt Heffernan
Great video, as expected! Thanks for featuring Chase Vault!
The 8-Bit Guy
Hahah. No. It's actually called CODEX. You can type that in BASIC to enter the assembly environment.

Long live the Chickenlips 16!!! Congratulations one and all on getting to this exciting stage. It's very rewarding to see design contributions I played a tiny part in coming to life here. But one important question: Can you still access the Assembly NotePad environment by typing AssPad? ๐
