VT100's need only the keyboard and an escape key to use VI , the editor I was trained to use in my computer programming and unix courses.. I still prefer to use vi as a text editor. One hotkey to blender 3D for deletion is the same in VI,that is the hotkey "x".. Capitalized hotkeys in vi were usually alternate or more potent versions of the lowercase hotkeys. VT100's also had support for ANSI graphics, so ANSI animations were possible on them.

One other data point -- in addition to the terminals you describe (i.e. character mode), there also existed block mode terminals (ex. 3270's) which were designed to send and receive data a block at a time. As an example, a form would be composed/sent from the mainframe to the block mode terminal, whereby a person would fill in the form locally, and when complete, would submit the form or block to the mainframe. Interestingly, this is largely how the early web was also implemented.

Hi David, thank you so much for sharing this video. I really did love it! All those nice old systems in one video. It is amazing. It is really cool to see people like us sharing a nice hobby! I like to visit every year the classic computing fair in Germany which is a yearly event. The cool thing about this fair you see C64 but also a lot of old computers and teletype machines! Once i had a chat on such a old system with someone in Australia. It is so cool to see someone typing on a machine while you watch him typing on the other side of the world! Amazing! Thank you for your share again like always! And i love the blue color car ;)

Haha.. Nope. It's basically just the Amiga version running on an emulator. Not a lot to really talk about.

David, loved it that you collaborated with David from Usagi Electric. I watch both of your channels regularly and I always learn something new. This video in particular was well done. I am perfectly familiar with terminals having done a lot of work on VAX systems via a VT100 back in the day. Thanks for the great collab!
