I broke my Sony RX-10 camera!
🕑 Added 2020-03-09 22:26:51 +0000 UTCWe had a little bit too much excitement in the lab and the tripod fell over with the camera on it. It still appeared OK. I didn't realize it, but the internal and external sound went dead. Pretty obvious when I looked inside, the mic connector got torn off the PCB, taking the traces out with it. Nothing that a little bit of creative wiring and soldering couldn't fix. Incredibly difficult to open. Took me 3 hours to take apart, two hours to put back together! It's all fine now. I should have made a video of it. Oh, wait, but I would have needed to repair the camera first...

When I saw the title, I already saw Antoine decapping the ICs from your poor Sony. Thanks to your persistence, skills and knowledge you made an RX-10 happy again. Well done! When it happened, did you swear in French or English?

I use UPS shipping label stickers for documenting and organizing screws during teardowns. Fold 1cm of each end under so they stick to the table sticky side up. Then I draw diagrams on them with a pen and stick the screws to my diagram. No need to inspect or sort screws this way as they're all organized by location.

No manual, no one has a tear down guide. Hours of it was looking at the thing, and trial and error, and lots of documenting so I could put it back together. Maybe twenty five screws or something like this! One screw in particular was the key, hidden behind a flex, at the very bottom of the casing. A slight half moon on a metal shield to allow a screwdriver to go through was the hint. I several glass vials to put the screws sorted at each stage.
