I hope that you all had an enjoyable holiday season (I sure did!), but now it is time to get back to our regularly scheduled D&D Homebrew programming.
SAVANT CLASS v5.0!
If you hang around the Discord (https://discord.gg/qqWrZnZajs) you may have noticed that one of the things I'm currently working on is an update to my Savant Class. As this is one of my most beloved (and most played) homebrew classes, I am treading very carefully with changes!
That is why I would like to preview some updates for the base class for you now. I would be very interested to hear what you think about the changes!
Pain points I am looking to address:
- Consistently being too good at skill checks (no more "always on" Intellect Die to skills).
- Underwhelming in combat (Rolled Fencing Pursuit into the base class, added Sharp Mind).
- Doesn't scale post 11th level (Extra Reactions at 13th, 11th and Unrivaled Genius).

That second part should've gotten cut - I rolled the Intellect Die bonus damage into Adroit Analysis.
Very interesting changes. After initially reading, I was wondering whether the second half of potent observation uses a reaction to do the extra damage when you land a hit on your focus? It reads as if it could be either in my opinion (could be me being silly though!)

Skill bonuses will come through your subclass and Pursuit choices. Don't worry!

As someone making a savant for an upcoming campaign, I was really looking forward to those passive bonuses to skill checks, since I really just wanted to play a total nerd who’s way too good at their special interest. If you really felt like the original version was too much, I would suggest bringing it back as limited to specific skills that the player chooses, rather than every intelligence and wisdom skill, so they can still be really good at what they choose to specialize in and be that out of combat utility expert.
