I don't mind the fight itself personally - it's showing off the Xing side of the cast, but I do think it could have been framed better.

My personal least favourite shot (outside of green hill zone drawn in tuxpaint) is the sword fight at sunset. The transition into it is almost very clever, because they transition the lightning strike into the swords clashing. So your eye is drawn into the new scene and the swords clashing in the middle of the screen, and then you continue looking at the centre of the screen while the fight continues zoomed out in the top right and you’re kinda disorientated and confused. And also it’s a boring fight scene that doesn’t do an especially good job showcasing character’s personalities or the magic system immediately after 3 other fight scenes that are way cooler looking and do show that stuff off.

It's entirely the colours for me. They change constantly in a way that doesn't feel deliberate - the go to scene where I see it is after May's (badly timed) insert shot, the sky for the scene with Ling and crew is prominent with a generic neutral blue that then goes into another shot with a prominent sky that's practically grey as they introduce Mustang's gang. Or the two shots at sunset having different saturations on that red sky. This is obviously hyperbole, but to me it feels like every shot they put a new person in charge of deciding how things should be coloured and it makes the whole thing look off and gross to me. I'm exaggerating my dislike of it because it's so close to being an OP I like, it would still probably make my top 200, it's better then Golden Time Lover, but at least GTL had a deliberate feeling colour scheme - even if that colour scheme was gross and dull.

For the record I told a friend who likes the FMA ops that I didn’t like most of them so separately we went back and watched them and we both came to the conclusion that the second one is super ugly and awful, you’re entirely correct
