I'm unsure how good "animals can eat it" is as a clue to something being edible for humans. There are a lot of things that are only toxic to some species, or that are toxic to most species but some can consume. The more related an animal is to humans, the more likely "it can eat stuff means we can eat it" is true (which is why animal testing likes to use mammals like rodents, not insects) but it's hard to tell how similar these alien animals are to humans!
