This anime was very surprising. Just overall very enjoyable even though it’s not the most groundbreaking anime. Can’t wait for the finale!!!

Shinomia is 16 I looked up… but it might be wrong. But I think Kafka just sees her as a kid. Which makes it better I think. Hopefully he doesn’t like… reciprocate Especially when they SPECIFICALLY say he’s old all the time lol

It’s odd that they number them. Like the important ones that are different or stronger are numbers… not names. I wonder if they give some Kaiju names that are like EXTRA AWFUL. Godzilla style Like yes that’s kaiju number 3 over there but over THERE IS REDAYGON SUN EATER!!!

In the first episode or 2, it states that the numbered Kaiju are numbered in order of appearance. You guys that that right, but they also say that No. 8 is the FIRST one to get away. They number them based on uniqueness and strength (assumedly). Thus, all the ones prior to Kafka have been killed. It's an easy mistake to make though. I had to explain this a couple of times to someone lol

I'm truly enjoying this anime. Thank you guys for introducing it to me. I feel it's different from other anime with its main character. Many main characters, are like copy and paste, and many aspects of Kafska is but isn't at the same time. I love how he's not always got a boner to use his hidden ultra power whenever for whatever. This anime's got a lot of layers, it seems, and I'm shook each time one's peeled back. P.S. I was also as surprised by how Hoshino's character has been unveilng.

I'm a manga reader, and to my understanding, they classified kaiju based on fortitude: yoju < honju < daikaiju (which has fortitude from 8.0 and above). Daikaiju that caused massive destruction and gave people hard time to defeat it will be numbered in the order of their appearance. Thus, Kafka is the 8th one so he is Kaiju #8. You'll get to see the other "big boys" as the story goes on!!

The numbering is based off of strength/fortitude. When they explain it the way they do it gets confusing because the wording/translation, or the context, makes you think it’s the ones that have escaped get numbers.

What I understood in regards of the numbers is that they give them a number only if the kaiju surpass a certain fortitude level 🤔

yeah, that translates better in the manga. I was surprised people thought it had a romantic undertone but I see how that can be misleading. It's probably due to the blushing. However when you think about the fact that she's 16-18, the older brother/father dynamic makes more sense as well. Especially with that scene when he saves her and lectures her about doing her best to stay safe.

I'm glad that you're finally discovering how awesome Hoshina is. It was an instant like for me so I was confused why you all thought he was sus. But anw, when I was reading the manga what really caught my attention was how likable all the characters were. There are no typical asshole type characters that you eventually learn to like once you get their backstory, no bullies, no anything. Just straight up people having normal interactions with each other with some harmless teasing thrown in. Take Iharu for instance, he could've been your typical jealous colleague who resents Ichikawa's success. But in the face of death, he pleaded for his friend's life not his own and earned my eternal respect. So yeah, the anime's not exactly groundbreaking but I'd be hard pressed to choose a character that I could bear to lose.

From my understanding, the numbered Kaiju are Kaiju that pass a certain point on the scale they use, like when Kaiju No. 8 was said to be at a 9.8 or 8 from Hoshina. And then the number itself is just the order of these powerful Kaiju being discovered.

I don't think that kafka and Shinomiya scene was meant to be seen as romantic, Shinomiya's just not used to having an older brother/father figure that actually cares about her
