Oh I straight hated Tendou and didn't really care for Atsumu on first watch, but they totally grew on me. There's no characters that I don't like in the show at all. In the comments here it ends up looking like I'm hating on Atsumu, but it's really only in response to (what I see as) an insane over rating of him from the fandom. Folks here calling him the goat and I'm like, are we watching the same show?

I'm not arguing that Miya is bad, he's obviously great, they say it enough times over the course of the series. But it's also not really that off to suggest that he and Oikawa are close in skill. Yes, Atsumu was able to copy the freak quick because of his connection with his brother. Can't do a quick without someone who's able to hit it. That's part of the reason Kageyama was benched at his last school. Both Inarizaki and Shiratorizawa are regulars at nationals and so their players are the ones awarded "best in the country". If Oikawa is on a team that never makes it to Nationals - he's not gonna get the visibility. It would probably have been the same for Kageyama if he didn't have Hinata and they didn't beat Shiratorizawa. I think all of the players we see at all-Japan have either been to or are going to Nationals. Also, weird to randomly call out Shirabu and Semi. Pretty sure Shiratorizawa wouldn't have weak setters when their whole vibe is to be big and strong. 😅

Yup. I just mean that Atsumu is the only one I can think of in the show to go out of his way to discourage Kageyama setting. One by mocking him for being a goody-two-shoes, and then again by nudging him to be a spiker instead of a setter. There is never any real reason given, so the viewers are left to interpret it on their own. And you're right, the show is very much about encouraging rivalries which is why that interaction stands out as odd to me. Also, Oikawa is said to bring the best out in anyone he plays with. If he were on a team with a bunch of aces like Shiratorizawa, he would have definitely played at an even higher level.

Atsumu copied the freak quick after his first time seeing it. is younger than Oikawa. Got invited to all Japn when Oikawa never did. Oikawa won the best setter award for their prefecture, Atsumu won for the country. He is named in the show as the best highschool setter and server. Also any other setter for Shiratorizawa would have taken them to nationals. Shirabu and Semi are probably the worst setters in the show that have been named.

Is it during the Japan Youth several days of training where he saw Kageyama was a really good spiker? This show is all about welcoming rivalries and challenges so Atsumu wanting that would be against the theme imo. Yes, if Oikawa was to join the other private school, Shiratorizawa, he might have been at the Nationals throughout his high school years and might be noticed by All Japan Youth coach. But the coach Wajisho would have limit his creativity hence the National coach wouldn't have noticed him anyway. He wouldn't be happy there and might end up like Sumi.

I think the only reason that Atsumu is thought of as better is because Kageyama hadn't been playing (his ms team benched him). They even talk about it at the Japan training camp. Also, Oikawa is definitely a top setter which is why Ushijima was so salty about Oikawa not going to Shiratorizawa. If Oikawa and Ushijima paired up, Oikawa would have been standing out at the National level as well. Also, Atsumu went out of his way to try and tell Kageyama to give up on being a setter at the All-Japan. No reason for him to do that if he wasn't worried about the competition.

the s4 animation (especially 2nd half) is mostly good, amazing at peak moments (on par with the best of s1-s3), but there are more parts compared to the first 3 seasons that look kinda off. overall just less consistent which makes sense considering the conditions they were working in 😓 it's sad that it takes away from the match for some reactors

It was more of a gradual thing for me. An evolution from thinking “that’s so cool” right alongside Hinata, to not being sure I liked him, to liking him, etc. he was pretty much a rollercoaster for me but, well he’s somehow solidified as one of my favorite characters on the show now. Haha I was like Hinata the first time I saw Atsumu close his fist to quiet the screaming fans before his serve. “Dang, that’s so cool.” And then I embarked on my journey of having him as one of my top 10 favorite characters in Haikyuu. Also objectively, even after the recent movie, there’s enough source material left from the manga for 12-20 episodes and a movie. I’m personally worried because all that’s been guaranteed to wrap things up is a second movie. I’ll probably go read the manga for a fourth time if that’s true. The last arc is that much of a masterpiece.

Those are sadly just rumors. What it was confirmed back in the 2022 event as "Haikyuu Final" with 2 movies, but they didn't say anything else. Recently tho, in an event the production team attended I think it was in the USA someone asked them if they planned to adapt the manga ending and they said they were going to, but they never said it was going to be something else beside the last movie that was already announced. So I really think they will end everything in the next movie 😭 (I'm still hoping they surprise us with a new season tho, the last arc deserves it)

So I got quite a few chances to watch a couple of volleyball matches when I went to university, but the first match I went to during my freshman year, my university decided to do what Inarizaki's crowd was doing. As a golfer with the quality of 'good sportsmanship' and 'integrity' etched into my bones, being a part of that type of audience made me feel so deeply ashamed that I left the stands in tears. One of the cheer coordinators came out to check on me, and I told her how we weren't showing the opposing school proper respect by booing and jeering at them like that. She took my comment to heart, went back inside, and got everyone to stop. Our University ended up winning even without the jeering, and I felt so proud watching them!

It's in Kansai (same region as Kyoto and Osaka). They're speaking "Kansai-ben" or Kansai dialect. Pretty sure they say "Nandeyanen!?" in one of these two episodes, which is super common to hear in places like Osaka, but you'll very rarely hear it in Tokyo etc. I love the Kansai dialect because one of my friends who helped me learn Japanese is from Kyoto. Because of her I learned to say certain things in Kansai dialect without realising. My friends in Tokyo found it really amusing when I used those sentences in front of them the first time without knowing :') haha.

just so you guys are reminded, season 4 is the end of the anime as far as the tv episodic series goes. There are supposed to be 2 movies afterwards to conclude the story, the first being "The Battle of the Garbage Dump." We don't really know much about the other movie yet, unless of course you're a manga reader. Me personally, not a fan of that. I would rather have had season 5 after the movie, but it is what it is. Some people are speculating there will be a season 5 after the two movies that is set in the future and sort of like a spin off with a new cast, with cameos from current characters.

I love how you guys call him husband. I personally don't consider him my husband. I think he's an interesting character though. Definitely has some good serves and attack power. Honestly, I have mixed feelings about Tanaka and his childhood friend. It'd be cool If they got together, but he's also obsessed with Kiyoko. Their band section was definitely annoying, but I guess it's good to learn how to tune that stuff out and get used to distractions. I loved when Saeko and her crew came to help out. I'm looking forward to next week's drop!

lol, atsumu is seems super similar to oikawa personality wise, but they also sound similar because of their voice actors. They were also compared when Miya's was Chrollo and Oikawa's was Hisoka in Hunter x Hunter. I think Miya's was Doma in Demon Slayer and Dazai in Bungou Stray Dogs as well

omg i remember watching that ep 13 ending during the covid period, the way the shrine showed up with inarizaki and then karasuno gave me goosebumps, what a way to end the first part of S4 Some name lore is that Inari is actually a god/kami of success and prosperity. The kami is sometimes depicted as a fox and the main shrine of Inari is called Fushimi Inari Taisha which is located in Kyoto in the Kansai region where Inarizaki is also from (in Hyogo).

If y'all are curious about the slightly different way the twins and the Inarizaki team are speaking, it's because they're from the Hyogo prefecture which is situated in the Kansai region! People from that region usually have an accent specific to the area haha! It's why you'll hear that the twins' intonation and manner of speech (specifically, "yer" instead of "your") are quite different sometimes! Some extra details!: When the twins do that quick attack, Atsumu says "This position... This timing... This angle! It's perfection!", this is basically a call back to when Kageyama said that exact same words in s1 ep 4, when he first set that insanely fast toss to Hinata during the three-on-three match they played against Tsukki to get into the club. And considering that s4 ep 14 implies that the twins basically did the same exact freak quick that Kageyama and Hinata are known for, this is CRAZY because who would think they'd have the exact same mentality when it comes to pulling off that stupid fast set? It just goes to show Haikyuu's amazing parallels which can span more than 3 seasons! It's honestly amazing. Also, Cannon, your comment about Atsumu's hair is totally warranted.
