They are trying to say "Energy" with an "R" sound but since there "Ru" sounds like "RLru". I'm also seeing that they have another word "E-Na-Ji" as a way to pronounce "Energy". You can say that's how they pronounce the L sound, but that's actually how they pronounce the "R" sound as well. There "R" doesn't just sound like "L" it sounds like "R" also, which is why I brought up that Zoro's name is mistranslated sometimes to Zolo. The R and L sounds in Japanese can go either way, so you have to use context to determine, how it should be pronounced in english. Even "Kira" from Death Note should really be "Kirla" because it's supposed to be them trying to say Killer. But in the context of saying Energy, it makes more sense to say Enerl or Ener, because then as English speakers we know it's supposed to sound like Energy. Most English speakers can't tell that Enel is supposed to mean Energy so miss out on that meaning, but the Japanese speakers can tell that Eneru is Energy. That's why I'm saying it's a bad translation, because the meaning is lost on English speakers.

It's not necessary a wrong translation. It's just a different romanization. If you want to say it in the Japanese pronunciation yes it would be more like Eneru, but that doesn't make it the correct "translation". It's impossible to romanize the exact pronunciation anyways - even Eneru would not be 100% accurate technically because it's not supposed to have the "oo" sound from "ru". Sometimes translators have to choose to adapt certain words and names into a more natural way into the target language - that's just how translation works. And vice versa, if Enel was an English name, the Japanese would pronounce it like Eneru because that's how they pronounce the L sound

The Translation is wrong, it's not Enel, it's Eneru. To us it would be more like Ener or Enerl because there is no "L" in Japanese but they do use Ru to say "L" sometimes, for example e-ru is "L". That's because the R in Japanese sound like R and L at the same time so words with L and R are frequently interchangeable. Names like Luffy sound more like RLuffy but of course the correct spelling is Luffy. For Enel or Eneru. The correct spelling should be Ener or Enerl or Eneru for English translation because Eneru is short for Energy, in Japanese, Energy is E-Ne-Ru-Gi. That's why spelling and saying Enel as an English translation makes no sense. It's kind of like when Zoro is is sometimes mistranslated as Zolo.

Those things on Enel's back come from Japanese mythology. Raijin was this thunder god who wore those on his back. One punch man season 2 had a lightning-character who wore the same thing

Also I 100% agree with the chill parts being some of the best moments in OP. Imo I think it's cuz they're naturally integrated into the plot so it doesn't feel forced, and the characters are quite well rounded with their own fleshed out personality so it's fun seeing them interact.

One pace in general is pretty ruthless with the way they cut non canon content. The idea behind is to strictly stick with the manga’s telling of the story to avoid bias when deciding what to cut and what to leave

I was specifically talking about Shaun not enjoying skypiea as whole due to the slower pacing, which I find hard to understand as there’s still plenty of awesome viewing moments you get with the original version. Sure there’s a lot of dragged out moments in the show and it does get worse to the point that I don’t even like it myself at times, but this is still a show, there’s no need to be so defensive about one pace like this. It’s not about short attention spans - people just value their time & don’t want to sit through 1,000 garbage episodes of poorly paced adaptation. Dragging out scenes cheapens them, ruins the impact & makes them tiresome. That’s exactly why it’s getting a seasonal remake. If valuing people’s time & Oda’s original work makes someone “a short-attention-span youth,” maybe you need to touch some grass.

Correct the Sharingan tomoes did not originate from naruto. naruto was just teh first to put them in an eye lol. I don't recall the actual name of it, but I think its used in shintoism and i believe it was a clans crest? idk, but didnt come from naruto.

I've never had an issue with the group splitting. I always saw it as a natural way to progress the story in multiple places at once. I also like seeing how the subgroup vibes change depending on the combinations of straw hats. Like Zoro and Robin looking after clumsy Nami; or Sanji losing his womanizer gag, being big bro to Luffy and Usopp to make sure they stay serious.

The VA actually did a rap track as Enel for the one piece character song album to celebrate the 20th anniversary of OP. The rap wasn’t that great but he also did a ballad called Tokyopiea(💀) which was really good.

THEY FINALLY SEE SLIM SHADY! The One Piece producers really leaned in to the Slim Shady meme in the character songs they made, they had the voice actor do a character rap for Enel's song. It's also super interesting because Oda is actually a fan of Eminem and a lot of other American rappers, so people have theorized he purposefully based the character design off of Eminem's Slim Shady alter ego. Of course, we can't really get confirmation of that because it could be copyright infringement and risk a lawsuit if Oda did confirm it.

This arc is notorious for being one a lot of people struggle through on their first watch. When you have seen the rest of OP available, there's a lot more interest in this arc, but first time it just feels like a lot of nothing for some people even though it isn't.

I don't get the issue when the Straw Hats split up. What ensemble show, movie, anything do they just always stick together? Avengers, Guardians of Galaxy, Justice League split up all the time. I know One Piece has a reputation for being drawn out but sometimes things happen because of the plot and not some nefarious plan to extend runtime.

There is a Japanese myth called ”Fu-Jin” and "Rai-Jin", it means "The god of wind" and "The god of Thunder". Rai-Jin, the gold of thunder, has this distinctive appearance of having this set of drums circling around his back, just like Enel or whatever the guy from Demon Slayer have. Every Japanese know about this myth and lots of fictions refer it as a character design.
