when Jiraya was saying flog you to a frog and felt embarrassed or like he said something weird is because of the word play in Japanese, he said I will change you into frog, and the word "to change" and "frog" in Japanese have the same pronunciation "Kaeru" so he said "Kaeru ni Kaeru" happens a lot in anime where there is word play in Japanese, it does not translate to English so they try to mimic it just like "Flog you to a frog"

It's similar to Mutually Assured Destruction with Nukes, that prevents major wars happening between countries with nuclear weapons. I really love that in these eps Jiraiyas true character is really revealed. He’s portrayed as this aloof goofy guy a lot of the time but ever since he was a teenager he has lived his life to fufill this prophecy that was given to him and has never strayed. Even after hearing that Pain defeated Hanzo he still resolved to take him down bc he feels like it’s his responsibility. This is my rewatch too and I had the very same reaction as you did so I understand completely. I have no doubt plenty of people felt that scene very deeply. Family, a sense of belonging, having someone inspiring in your life, and at the same time realizing your life inspired people you love that much... all of these things happen simultaneously in that scene... along with us seeing Naruto's whole family in one place for the first time in who knows how many years since the last time we've watched the show - so yeah, of course that scene hits hard. To put what Pain is saying into perspective, I’ll use a real world example: USA and Japan. War was going on and ppl chose sides. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor....USA dropped two nukes on them....Japan didnt bomb USA soil again. Thats what Pain wants to do...give everyone a nuke and let them use it...theyll feel the pain and devastation. Then theyll stop. Thats the simplest I can put it with the least amount of details lol. Ahh I see where we differ. For summoning you think world building includes the fights. World building refers to geography, culture, history, ecology stuff like that. In the case of summoning for Naruto it would be like the contracts for summons or the locations like Mt. Myoboku. If the Geks didn't enjoy those portions of summoning's then I would understand why you would say they didn't like that part of the world building but the fights with summoning's have nothing to do with world building. Worldbuilding is used to establish themes and tones of the story such as the reveal of Mt. Myoboku or summoning contracts but whether summons are used in a fight or not has nothing to do with that

Having the creatures fight is part of the world building IMO. The dragging on part is what baffles me bc again it's action and at least it's DIFFERENT action than ninjutsu and taijutsu so again idk how something completely different is considered a drag. It's not like you know what happens with the action scenes and just because they are not main characters doesn't mean they are not worth the time. Maybe I'm not a kid and the drag word goes over my head but to me it's a negative way of describing the effort of the artists who probably spent a whole bunch of time to create really awsome characters that add to the lore of the main character powers.

I think most people feel the same way as Geks when it comes to summonings. No one said that they are bad. They are still very good and super interesting, but if an entire fight relies on everyone using them, it doesn’t feel as personal as a 1v1. This fight was great, but if they kept fighting with summonings for 3 more episodes, it would lose momentum. Nobody’s hating on it—it's still good—but 1v1 battles are just better. In this fight, summonings enhanced the quality, but if that was all they did for few more episodes, it would get kind of meeh. They did it right with this fight and only used summonings for one episode

I think its just you. When did they mention not enjoying the lore of the summoning's? They didn't enjoy the fighting with the summoning's as much because it dragged out and that's a normal take. I'm sorry but i thought geks liked world building, Naruto has this summoning world and they are showing you animals/creatures from this world and it's still lacking/off because they are included in the action. It's fine if you don't like it but I feel like the reasons behind it seems a bit disconnected to my ears. But I guess they want the main characters to fight as long as its different villains and the powers gradually increase/switch accessories at a constant normal pace even if it's the same action moves repeated in most anime??? ah yes to refresh your memory on the rasengan. Minato did create it, jiraiya learnt it from Minato as it's such a unique jutsu. jiraiya then taught naruto and then naruto 'perfected' it.

its interesting to see the different philosophies. pain and jiraiya. jiraiya and orochimaru. naruto and sasuke, and so on and so on. I always find characters like Naruto and jiraiya just so much more interesting, even if I can understand the reasoning for people who have gone through a lot (esp as we see in these eps of yahiko konan and nagato). we dont know what happened yet exactly in this point but you can think of many ways that war and suffering can radicalise children (negatively) and lead them to the wrong path. some ppl may find characters like naruto cliche but I feel that its such a beautiful testament of our potential, despite what the world throws at us. but back to this episode....I HATE SEEING PAIN BUT IM EXCITED, IT JUST SUCKS HAVING JIRAIYA FACE THEM

I think its nice to see that Orochimaru, even in his own strange way, has compassion for the children. Just the look on his face when Tsunades brother died and the fact that he fought to the death for Konoha in two world wars show that he liked his friends and the village very much, at least until then.

I can't believe I cried with the reveal of Naruto's name, it hurst so much more on the rewatch 😭😭 Since I knew it was coming I was able to focus on Jiraya's genuine shock to see how much love and such deep admiration Minato had for his sensei and it broke me, full blown gigantic tears down my face 🤧 I don't even care Carter's face didn't even flinch for this moving scene, I felt it and that's more than enough 🍥❤️‍🔥

Those songs are so iconic! I still listen to them once in a while, but I’m not sure if they’ll like it. They value the visuals a lot, but Naruto is an old anime, so it doesn’t have mind blowing visuals. I’ve watched over a hundred anime, but Naruto holds a special place in my heart.

Same, I was not ready for OP6 I’ve been listening to it for an hour already. I also can't wait for their reaction to Shalala and freaking Habataitara. I had them on my Nokia back then, and I and my classmates would go crazy listening to them with our Akatsuki rings and protectors on. I just love Naruto so much, and rewatching it fully is beyond my expectations. It was the perfect anime to watch while growing up but I enjoy it even more now

You should consider doing 3 episodes for the next batch instead of the usual 4 since the next fight starts at episode 135 and lasts exactly 4 episodes. It’s one of the best fights in the series, and it would be a shame to have it split up instead of watching it in one sitting. Watching just one episode from that fight with this upcoming batch would feel out of place. Of course, you can still post 4 episodes if that’s your plan, but just keep in mind that 135-138 should really be watched together. I know that Brig and McKay are probably aware of this, but I just wanted to point it out to make sure it’s on your radar

One of my favorite fights in Naruto. I love the sound of Jiraiya’s shoes when he frantically runs. The real fight is just getting started! I also agree with the idea that fights without summoning are more interesting, and it was really strange that Pain relied only on summoning, considering he had mastered every jutsu. Even Jiraiya himself is curious and wonders why Pain is using only summoning techniques, which adds to the mystery surrounding him. I can't wait for the next week 👀🥹 you will see one of my favourite episodes

Also culturally speaking, I think certain other characters in naruto have WAY better reasonings and motivations than pains. THAT BEING SAID, its important to remember Naruto is a japanese show. Their relationship with nukes is different than ours. We scoff and laught at the notion of nukes ending war because we had them first, dealt with the cold war, and live in the modern era. etc etc. But for Japan nukes hit them (no pun intended) way different for obvious reasons. it affects their stories, media, and philosophy in a different nuanced way.

Nagato is not the only one who has mastered all the chakra natures. The third is an expert in all chakra natures, earning him the title of “Professor”. Orochimaru also possess all the chakra natures. When Jiraiya said Nagato learned all the jutsu, he was talking about all the Jutsu that he personally knows, while Orochimaru’s goal was to learn all the jutsu existing in this world. Some are lost, some are forbidden, that’s why he spends so much time doing research, he wants to recover all the lost jutsu. Kakashi can use all the chakra styles as well. It was mentioned several times in the show. We’ve seen him use lightning, fire, water and earth so far. Even though Sasuke defeated Orochimaru, that doesn’t make him stronger than Orochimaru. Don’t forget that the third sealed his hands so he couldn’t perform his ninjutsu, and his body was on the verge of crumbling, which is why he is planning to take Sasuke’s body.

At this point in the plot, Jiraiya is the strongest in the Leaf. He has huge amount of chakra and knows so many jutsu to deal with different situations. Tsunade has more chakra than Jiraiya, but she is not as versatile, so it’ll be tough for her to fight Pain. Kakashi may know a thousand jutsu and possesses all the chakra natures, but he has limited amount of chakra, so there is no way he can fight Pain. If Jiraiya dies, the Leaf will be doomed, unless something else happens.
