The whiskers are never directly explained but it's my headcanon that because Naruto was the child of a Nine Tails Jinchuriki he had been somewhat affected by its chakra in the womb. You can see that he has them before the Nine Tails is even sealed inside of him so it's got to be something like that. Naruto's kids also have whiskers so to me it's the only thing that would make sense in-universe that isn't just a design choice

Rewatching this batch of episodes hit me all over again, reminding me why Naruto really is one of the GOAT anime. And trust me, there’s still a ton of epic moments coming. The new gen is cool and all, but it just doesn’t hit the same emotionally. The OG will always have my heart. I commented this after the last drop, but this drop has some of my favorite episodes in the entire show. I’m glad you guys agree. That entire 5 episode stretch is unreal. I cry like a freaking baby every time. Next weeks is good too, but it’s hard to beat these. There are a couple stretches in the next big arc where it gets a little slow, but it’s not necessarily in a bad way. Hope you guys continue to enjoy Shippuden. It’s one of my favorites for episodes like this.

A lot of the things in Shippuden have been built up since OG Naruto, like the Sasuke & Naruto conflict, Akatsuki's goal of gathering tailed beasts, the 9 tails attack was shown in episode 1, Sasuke & Itachi stuff, Madara & Hashirama were mentioned there as well, etc. The reason these backstories weren't shown earlier isn't that they hadn't been thought out yet, but because they were saved for specific arcs. For example, Itachi's backstory in the Sasuke vs Itachi arc, Rinnegan & Sage of the Six Paths lore in the Pain arc, the 9 tails attack backstory in the arc where he is fighting the 9 tails, etc.

The mask he wears in these episodes represents the nine-tails being unleashed: the nine points/edges of the lines closest to the hole in the mask represent the kyubii’s nine tails. The hole represents the moon, so if you turn the mask sideways it is the moon above the nine-tails.

I'm glad the Geks enjoyed this batch of episodes. These episodes never failed to make me cry and emotionally connect to Naruto since I lost my mother at a young age. I put myself in Naruto's position, wanting to know how she looked and wondering if the exact words that Kushina told Naruto, my mother, would be telling me. I loved how the Geks pointed out how Naruto was gushing/rocking back and forth over his mother, his father, and their love story. Minato(the Yellow Flash) and Kushina(Tomato/ the Red-Hot Habanero) are the best.

Absolutely loved y'all's reaction to this batch! Honestly, this is probably my favorite 5 episode stretch of the entire show, just because of how emotionally cathartic it is and how perfectly crafted every single second is. It gets overshadowed a lot by the Pain arc and other parts to come in the future, but this Kushina x Minato backstory/Naruto origin arc is SOOO frickin' good! I love that the last episode is titled "Thank You" too; it feels like a massive thank you to the Naruto audience that has been on this journey for so long, and is getting so much emotional payoff in this batch of episodes. I certainly want to say "Thank you" to Kishimoto for these episodes <3

I semi agree it could’ve been done earlier, but it’s significance would’ve been lessened. Just want to note the significance of Kushina saying ai shiteru instead of the more common dai ski desu. Both are commonly translated as “I love you” but ai is the true translation of the word love in English. This is very uncommon to be said and most japanese people dont even hear this from their family for their whole life, thats why dai ski which really means strongly like is commonly translated as I love you.

what carter was saying at the end, i think that's smth unique to these older shonen shows (one piece, naruto, bleach etc) mostly because of the weekly nature of the episode releases since you guys are watching these shows in the current day and age where you've seen how good the quality/pacing/writing can be for modern anime - it's understandable that you'd feel kind of disconnected while watching like, i grew up watching naruto but even i find it tough to deal with some stretches/arcs at times i wish someone would make an abridged version with just the canon stuff and remove the numerous flashbacks sequences still, glad you guys stuck with the show and hope you do get more of these enjoyable moments going forward!

(1:44:10) One thing I will say about this part with pacing and structuring with Naruto. The manga is paced very very well and everything to do with flashbacks as well as important moments such as this one for examples feels very good to read on where it's placed. It's just a shame that anime back then, were just horribly placed to not catch up to the manga as well as having tedious cheats to cut on animation and timing which just ruins pacing in each episode. Not to mention the excess filler especially watching it while it aired was complete hell. But the manga imo was very very good in terms structure and timeline of each moment. Never did it feel sluggish/tiring to read at all. Which is why so many of us Naruto fans really hope that one day there will be a remaster to fully fix all the issues the anime has that the manga does not have. If they did that Naruto will honestly be only 200-250 episodes instead of it being a whopping 720 episodes. Which is insane with the manga having 700 chapters which the anime bizarrely exceeds if it was released in recent years.

I think the reason why people love Naruto and One Piece so much is because of how much heart it brings to cinema. Naruto is my goat not because it is the best written show ever but because it pulls at my heart strings the best. It has brought out emotions that I rarely ever see in myself and honestly, I’m grateful for that. The flaws are definitely very, very clear. I just choose to ignore them and stick everything in the back of my mind. But if that’s something that you are unable to do I can definitely see why there is a lack of emotional investment and enjoyment.
