Reiner's mental break/split personality is literally because he can't cope with what he is doing once he realizes they are just people and becomes friends with them. Bertholt also was clearly remorsefull the entire time which is why he is so quiet and timid and never takes action without Reiner ordering him. Gabi even says something like "I finally understand Reiner now" when she finally realizes it all. Unlike Reiner though, she has only killed a handfull of people when she realized, while Reiner learned it after having killed hundreds of thousands already.

I always see Eren shouting “wait!” as a twofold thing. Like he obviously cares about Falco and a lot of the people who had drank the wine, and would rather Zeke didn’t actually use his scream. But I also think it could be that he is trying to get everything to play out as he’s seen it in his future memories. He possibly knows Falco becomes the Jaw titan, and needs to timing to line up better so that Gabi is capable of shooting him and all the events line up for him to achieve his goal. Might not be the case at all, but just some food for thought.

Getting another chance to rewatch, the thing that really draws me to Eren this season is just how competent he's become. At this point opinions were split among the fanbase over how different he is, and that seems to be the case with the girls too, but throughout the show we've seen him struggle to carve out the smallest victories with so much help and sacrafice from his friends and comrades. I've said it before but the scene of Petra begging him to trust Levi Squad and Levi telling him to make the choice is in my opinion one of if not the most important scenes in the whole show for this reason. This season he's finally doing things on his own and feels like a full-fledged capable soldier, able to do the things he'd been yelling about since the end of episode 1. For any other faults I respect the hell out of this version of Eren for that.

Eldia refers to the tribe or nation.. However, not all Eldians are Subjects of Ymir. The Subjects of Ymir are specifically the descendants of Ymir Fritz, ones with the ability to transform into Titans and access the Paths. When Eren connects to the Paths and speaks, he addresses only the Subjects of Ymir, not Eldians as a whole. That’s because only those with Titan blood can connect to that realm. It’s kind of like the rectangle-square analogy: All (the majority) Subjects of Ymir are Eldians, but not all Eldians are Subjects of Ymir. In Ymir's backstory, after she gains the power of the Titans, King Fritz uses her to build the Eldian Empire. Many of the people under his rule, his original subjects, were Eldians before the Titan powers ever existed, but they weren’t descended from Ymir and therefore couldn’t transform into Titans. These original Eldians, who lived before Ymir's power spread through her bloodline, are a clear example of Eldians who were not Subjects of Ymir. Niel was talking about how it was too late for him to see and talk to his family and it motivated Falco to tell the truth about his feelings. Reiner could show Galliard the memory, cause he was touching Eren's Founding in the moment. I hope you noticed how Eren said wait, when Zeke was about to shout. He didn't want people to turn into titans. If you remember the first time we see Zeke in Paths, when he was blown by the spear, he didn't have chains then. Zeke was not affected by the King, cause King is not his direct relative, not his great-grand father. He is like the brother of his great grand father and also because King is not in his head, he is in Eren's. Ymir listens to Royal Blood, even if he is not brainwashed by the King. He saw that the first time he ended up in Paths and then waiting for Eren's recovery. Zeke is in "I can fix him" mentality 10/10 episodes, can't wait for 20-21

Annie, Reiner, and Bertoldt knew that very early on, but they still continued with their mission. Reiner was the only one who maintained the idea that there were devils, and it wasn't something he truly believed; rather a coping mechanism for the awful things he did.

Somehow I'm actually starting to really like Gabi on this 3rd rewatch.. wow. Who would've thought my opinion could still change on a third rewatch?? On my first alone, I didn't like her. On my second with the Geks, I still didn't really like her but I definitely understood her. And on this one, I'm liking her! 😭 poor girl, really. So much to go through for a little kid, although I suppose you could say the same for all the characters here. Now I'm not even sure why I used to dislike her like that. Though I understood her, in the past I still disliked her personality in general, thought she was kinda annoying. I don't think so anymore!! I can understand the perception that Eren is being selfish here, but you paint a vert rosy picture of Zeke and Fritz imo. Zeke wants to press the OFF button on the entire race. There is every possibility that the euthanization plan is followed by its own 'absurdity' as well. A bunch of titans will have had their children stolen from them, and people with royal blood (Historia, etc) become a target for anyone wanting to reverse the situation. Eren is within his rights to reject the idea of his people being deleted for the sake of convenience. I've always taken Eren's words more literall here. "I have been born into a unique position where I have a say, so I simply wont allow it". King Fritz? idk about peaceful, when you're wiping memories without consent and leaving people defenseless against titans. "Many of you will die for my sins, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make".

Zeke isn't my favorite character but him and Reiner may be Isayamas true hidden masterpieces. Zeke is perfectly booked. His flaws and genius at perfect balance. This episode in particular did a great service to the character. It would've been real easy to just have Eren best him here.

Not sure if it was said yet but to explain the baseball scene; Zeke tossing the baseball to Eren was supposed to symbolize a handshake between the two of them since they couldn't make physical contact yet, so Eren not catching the ball was his subtle way of not shaking Zeke's hand in agreement to the euthanization plan. Zeke looked shook because he realized what that subtle gesture meant, hence why he faked the chains he placed on himself and waited to see Eren's true intentions

The sense of selfishness and entitlement Eren displayed with "Because I was born into this world" is exactly why Zeke is trying to save him and the rest of the Eldians from the absurdity which is about to happen. Existing means, survival, survival means enemies, enemies mean conflict and the Eldians are born into this suffering. King Fritz was a pacifist and wanted to escape from external conflicts into founding the kingdom on Paradis and live peacefully and ignorantly with his people but thats not a good story.

Not sure - but fairly certain - if this is where the inspiration came from for AOT (and I'm too lazy to fact check but not lazy enough to type a Patreon comment): Ymir in Norse Mythology was the first Jotnar/Ice-giant (Titans in a way). There's a scene in S1 iirc, where Annie kicks off Eren's titan head and it flies through the air in a similar way to his human head in this season.

Eren's "death" is such a crazy moment. Sometimes I wish I hadn't read the manga after S4P1, so I could experience it in the anime for the first time. I think most AoT watchers who had to wait years between the seasons wish they could erase their memory of it and binge the entire thing like you girls.

Just when you think you know what's going on the script flips. I don't want the show to end, but at the same time i want to know how it ends. I'm expecting a bittersweet kind of ending. I'm wondering where Hange and Levi are. I don't think he's dead either because Hange wouldn't have escaped in the river with him.
