He actually said that he wanted someone chasing Luffy too I read somewhere. So Garp makes sense for that. People also have to come to grips rith not EVERYTHING is going to be in the LA. Like they found out in the next episode 😂 I'm actually really happy with how it's gone so far. They moved around some story beats sure, but it makes sense and all the important ones are actually there. This reveal was not an important one. I'm more curious about what else they will have to skip. Also, people always seem to forget the anime still exists..... You can just go back and watch it if you like it better 🤷🏼‍♂️. I'm cought up with both and I liked this better than the 44 episodes the anime covered..... 😬

Idk why everyone acts like the Garp thing is a "huge spoiler," it isn't. It's revealed exactly the same way as it is in the anime/manga (as a shock), it's not really a "Spoiler" it's just changing where the information is given to us. The handwringing anime fans have with "YOU CAN'T WATCH THE LIVE ACTION UNTIL YOU ARE 500 EPISODES INTO THE SERIES, IT WILL -RUINNNNNNNNNNNNNN- THE STORY IF YOU DO" is completely overblown. Oda worked together with the LA team on any and all changes, which needed his approval, he understood that creating a parallel story for Koby this early on, with the advantage of knowing what they need to focus on in the series, to mirror Luffy's journey, was a good idea. It's a great way to get people unfamiliar connected to the story even more.

To me the Garp reveal always felt very out of the blue even in the anime/manga. It is true that in the water 7 saga we see more of the WG and how they work, like with CP9, and it makes sense they sent someone to go after the strawhats for what they pulled at EL and Garp signing up for that was the best possible outcome for the strawhats to escape due to Luffy being his grandson, so I'm not disappointed at the reveal to be there at all, it's just that to me it felt like a clearly humorous moment (although cool at the same time) and the LA to me gets a similar effect, besides as an audience you also follow Garp here along with Koby and Helmeppo so it's not so unexpected they decided to put the reveal here. I personally never thought it was a big deal.

halfway through the video, but man, this is my first time rewatching the live action and seeing the zoro flashback made me realize how horrible it was. i hated it on the first watch but never thought about why. for one thing why did they think zoro being stuck in a well is a good place to do that? and the whole flashback felt like it was all done on one afternoon, there's no sense of time passing at all. the location being outside in a forest does not help at all too. they had such a large budget but they couldn't afford a dojo? i hate live actions of all sorts specifically because of greedy ceos who will keep stealing from the production costs and produce lackluster projects. the writing of the show is also terrible, and doesn't help when the actors line delivery is horrible too. young zoro, while he has potential, his performance as someone receiving the news to your childhood friend passing away and the reason for her death is a plain "accident" should be more than shedding a single tear and say "it can't be" and how he asked for her sword is also terrible. it's giving power rangers, heck even power rangers had better acting

Jango is a weird character already we met him with Kuro but then he went on to become a marine..... i don't miss him from this arc he was unnecessary. I love the changes to this arc it definitely raised the tension. Jack i said the same thing about Eminem playing as Enel. I'm still hurt that Jamie Lee Curtis couldn't change her schedule to be Kureha, she's always talked about wanting to play her and then she didn't have the time for filming T-T

I think the reason Kuina doesn't come off as convincing in being confident initially is because after being told that "some day [Zoro] will surpass her", she's reminded of the fact that her father told her that she'd never be the best because of being born a woman - you can see her swallow and her demeanor change before replying with "maybe some day". This show is working with a lot of foresight, so stuff like that and Nami being more standoffish here than in the manga and anime has better payoff when you get the full reveal (when you haven't seen the manga and anime, obviously) Also the LA never tells you how she dies, but when going to Kuina's funeral, there's a shot that's intensely focused on the stairs, which almost feels like a nudge nudge wink wink to the audience And also during their duel, before the exchange which makes him lose his swords, Zoro enters the Oni Giri stance, which is a fun touch

They're also sort of adapting the Koby-meppo cover story (minus him meeting Luffy here, obviously). Plus I think without the Garp B-story, the episodes would either have to be shorter/have dead air, or they'd have to go all the way to Loguetown, which would be extra sets and actors and whatnot

I think the whole Garp reveal was partially because they didn't know if they'd get more seasons signed? Luffy having family as a marine is a pretty huge part of their dynamic, so I'd say it was a fumble but oh well

I've always viewed the Live Action as an alternate universe in the One Piece Multiverse. Oda's Manga is the canon timeline, then there's the Toei Anime, the Live Action, and soon the WIT Anime remake. So they are all their own versions of the same story in different realities.

If this weren't goofy and a little cringe, it wouldn't be a faithful adaption. Who on Earth thought a live action of One Piece could be even good? I thought it would be impossible. Anime's tough to not make look goofy in LA. Remember Ed from Cowboy Bebop? I've seen bad adaptions. I don't think this is one. This was good. The kiss of death in most adaptions seems to be when they stray from the source material. This is close to the Manga. Unless you want to see Treasure Chest guy. Green Afro lives in a treasure chest. Remember him? I'd give the Oscar to someone who could adapt that not cringe.

YES, the Going Merry is a real ship, they straight up built it. However, the scenes with it on the water were filmed, of course, in a large pool, not the open ocean. But it absolutely can and is floating on water like a ship.

It IS based off the manga though, it was stated in the beginning of the first episode. Also an adaptation is not a complete 1:1 project. It’s another interpretation of the original work. So the dialogue or story will not be exactly the same. I have read the manga and watched the anime as well, the anime doesn’t go 1:1 with the manga either. So I don’t know where you’re getting that 99.99% accuracy from ? There are very much differences and quite a few. I won’t point them out though cause of spoilers

How axehand Morgan is super narcissistic and thought he caught Kuro is actually cannon, Jango hypnotized him to be that way. He even got promoted and people thought Kuro was dead. It’s a small detail in the manga and anime that people often missed

Bro definitely feels so emotionally repressed in this show,, the very end of his Baratie fight felt like I was watching a twelve year old that just lost at FIFA, but I guess that matches up pretty well with the whole “I’m-too-cool-for-everything” aesthetic if they were trying to break it down,, I’ve seen his acting before, and that scene was def the lowest quality I’ve witnessed so far, so I do wonder how much of that was because his ability/lack thereof to deliver what the scene needed, or if it was because of the direction he was being given.
