I haven’t read the manga or finished s3 yet so anything I say is only speculation. From my understanding you enter the borderland when your heart stops and you are between life and death. It’s not specifically caused by one event so that’s why people enter the borderland at different times. Please feel free to correct me or tell me to delete my comment if I’m wrong.

Yeah my main confusion is the close ended way season 2 ended, it was very final and very well done. everyone getting zombified def seems like the easiest way to win, but i think the reason no ones willing to do that is even if everyone verbally agrees to go zombie theres an inherent lvl of trust required seeing as once people know ur a zombie literally anyone can kill u at any time, which is obvious of course but then u hafta account for all the different groups spread out across the building - even if ur group has that basis of trust, would u trust totalll strangers from another? and bcuz theyre spread out it could also b harder to know the true number of zombies vs humans and which is actually in the lead bcuz zombies can be killed or cured at any moment along the way

I made a comment under your 3x1 reaction that might answer your questions, McKay. I haven’t finished this season yet so I don’t know if things change (since it goes beyond the manga ending), but as of the end of season 2 it's revealed that the Borderlands aren’t meant to be sci-fi or anything, it’s a fantastical space. That’s why so much nonsensical stuff happens, like millions of flaming arrows or lasers that can get you from anywhere. The first season leans you toward thinking it’s a simulation or apocalyptic, but the end of season 2 reveals it’s more of a dreamlike “what-if” limbo between life and death. The meteor didn’t cause the games, and no person created or controlled them (this isn't like Squid Game lol). It’s just a brutal concept of where we fight to live while dying. The reason so many people appeared in the Borderlands at once was because the meteor caused mass casualties. And as they even discuss this episode, not everyone is there because of that event, it’s anyone who ends up in a near-death state. This season with people suddenly remembering and returning to the Borderlands does raise new questions, but as of the end of season 2 this is the understanding we’re meant to have. All this stuff with the Joker guy is supposed to be a mystery. I went into this much better in my last comment :)

There's actually more source material y'all! There's so many games that weren't adapted from the manga, like this one! There are also two spin-offs. One is a direct sequel following Arisu 8 years later. The other spin-off introduces new characters in a different timeline. Good Fortune, Bad Fortune is the original 3♣️ game. This was the first game that Arisu, Karube, & Chota played & where they met Shibuki. The better Shibuki lol she actually helped them clear it. The live adaptation used Dead or Alive as the 3♣️ instead. Was soo happy & surprised to see this game being adapted! Excited to see if they adapt any more!!

The flaming arrow game was actually originally the first game Arisu and his friends played in the manga but they didn't use it in season one! Glad we finally got to see this game!!
