ok here’s a brief description of jack’s stream 1. he said it’s crazy that yamato was the one who gave ace the vivre card 2. he was asking where tf luffy is before luffy appeared 3.“is he just going past them?” 4. kinemon scene: “this is very sad. i got chills” 5. LETS GOOOO he shouted in a whisper (literally) when luffy was about to attack 6. LETS GOOOO LETS GOOO YESS when luffy attacked -> “this attack is insane” after luffy attacked 7. then episode ended and jack was smiling happily. “this episode was amazing and beautiful thanks for joining guys” he said I don’t know why he shouted and whispered simultaneously (or idk how to describe silent screaming) but he mentioned that his wife was listening to a new Taylor Swift album so he probably didn’t want to bother her which is very sweet. Also the video disconnected at around 2nd minute so we tried to let Jack know but he didn’t notice it for around 3 more minutes. Then he noticed, but we didn’t see his first reaction to those ~5 mins unfortunately. This is all I was able to remember and in general Jack didn’t talk much, hope this helps

this is the first time we’ve really seen Luffy truly alone, and I used to not think much of it but you can tell that Luffy is someone who THRIVES around other people. and to be honest, I think EVERYONE is like that despite how much they may value their individualism. Luffy is not the same mc we all know when he is alone and notice this is one of the few times in the series where we see Luffy actually ruminate on something. its very fascinating thematically and adds more to Luffy as a character

I do think the pacing can be a problem at times in the upcoming arcs, especially with the frozen frames. If you guys are getting annoyed by the pacing at all, I would def recommend One Pace. It will make improve some scenes that drag on too long. Also, only 4 episodes a week is going to be diabolical

Wrote an response b4 but ill repeat it cuz i think more should/could benefit reading it. Others have made smth similar points alrdy so you can choose not to if tldr "Sorry but saying amazon lily is "the most male gazed” is extremely reductive. Its oversimplifying both what male gaze means and what oda was trying to make. The overall style fits within the amazon archetype of isolated tribe of beautiful women distrusting of men and just because its an island of "bikini clad warriors" its really not a blanket “all men want this” gaze. While the stylizing of women are fanservicey its in line with the trope and not focused with intent to please. Their culture views the strong as beautiful and they dont act as passive objects of desire. They are dominant, powerful, have agency and political power. Luffy is not swooned over but instead treated as an alien creature. Even the "harem" trope and stuff i cant write without spoiling is played mostly for gags and undercut by luffys indifference. Im not saying Odas innocent either. Men are often drawn in terms of power fantasy while women are mostly drawn with hyperfeminine proportions in skimpy outfits and suggestive poses but seeing how the target demographic and main audience of Jump Weekly consists of young teenage boys and within the standards of the magazine he is honestly one of the tamer mangakas when it comes to fanservice"

I don't care what anyone says, Amazon Lily is one of the most goated arcs in One Piece. I find the pacing to be some of the best in the show, it's a snappy, fairly short arc with amazing world building, characterisation, lore, peak Oda humour, and a bunch of stuff that I don't want to say so the Geks can enjoy it for themselves. Not only that but I find that it's relevant even to the story today, and probably holds importance to later points in the manga. Very few places can claim that. And then, the whole chinese ancient kingdom vibes are hard as hell. So pumped for these eps, and pretty much every ep for like 100s of eps lol

I also think it would’ve been better if they had done it the manga way. But as someone else mentioned, they had stopped making filler episodes for this arc, so instead they stretched the pacing with other stuff. I personally felt like having him remember the ENTIRE crew TWICE in the same episode was a bit much, but it’s still probably a more elegant solution than adding completely useless filler scenes. Also they adapted only 1 chapter per episode here.

As a woman, I also really like Amazon Lily as a setting. The women are strong, and the Chinese-inspired architecture looks amazing. That said, I wouldn’t actually want to live there. Maybe under a different empress it would be fine, but Boa Hancock just isn’t the kind of ruler I’d want to devote my life to. Without spoiling anything, I know a lot of people, especially male fans, really love her, but that’s just my personal take. Also, McKay had me cracking up in this reaction, and Carter immediately guessing the Amazon connection was so cool.

I think the reason why for Jack why he feels the pacing is slower than he expected is because he already knows what is happening and when you look forward to the “bigger” moments to happen you would feel the pacing is slower but if you just watching not knowing what to expect the pacing will feel normal. If you look closely, you'll notice that Luffy's character design is a bit different from previous arcs. His arms and legs are slimmer, and his hands and feet are slightly smaller, making everything look more proportionate with the rest of his body. His hat is also bigger and rounder. This change is due to the lead character designer being replaced by Kazuya Hisada, a director and animator who previously worked on many DBZ episodes. This isn't the only change. During the Thriller Bark arc, Toei hired a bunch of new and talented animators while also retaining their more experienced ones. As a result, we're starting to see these subtle changes become more prominent, in the art style, animation, and character designs.

The island of Amazon Lily reminds me so much of og Dragon Ball. Like the architecture and composition of the island, and even how Luffy acts, very similar to how Goku acted when he was younger. Obviously Dragon Ball is a huge inspiration to Oda, but I haven't really felt that impression before this arc, aside from Luffy's character and some of the silliness from the world and other characters.
